Hello Friends!

The Olokinni of Okinni community in Osun State, Oba Akadari Okanola (64), has been dragged before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court over alleged wilful destruction of a landed property.

Okanola appeared before Magistrate Olusola Aluko on Wednesday alongside his 77-year-old chief, Alabi Oyedele.

Both were accused of trespassing on the landed property of Mr. Adegoke Durodola, and destroying the foundation of his three-bedroom flat in Okinni.

Also charged along with the monarch and his chief were 23-year-old Segun Adedoyin and 38-year-old Aliman Abdullahi.

The charge sheet alleged that the offence was committed on November 30, 2011.

Furthermore, the charge alleged that the defendants conspired to destroy 1, 200 bricks worth N450, 000.

Defence counsel, Mr. Adetoyese Emitomo, urged the court to allow the suspects rely on the bail condition in respect of case number MOS/590c/2011, which was also a land matter.

But the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Biodun Badiora, opposed the bail on the grounds that the charge in case number MOS/590c/2011 was unknown to the court because it had been stuck out.

Although he admitted that the court had jurisdiction over the matter, Badiora said the case must be put in proper legal perspective.

The accused entered a not guilty plea when the charges were read to them.

Aluko granted each of them bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties, ordering that the sureties must provide three-year tax clearance certificate and two passport photographs.

He adjourned the case till May 30, 2012 for mention.
