Keeping quiet: Brad Pitt claimed there were 'no plans' for his wedding to Angelina Jolie as he attended a screening of his Killing Them Softly at the May Fair Hotel in London.

He's rumoured to be finally marrying his long-term partner Angelina Jolie this month.

But Brad Pitt wasn't giving anything away about their forthcoming nuptials as he attended a special screening of his new film in London tonight (Thursday).

Despite fevered speculation they have been busying readying their estate at their home, Chateau Miraval in the South of France, Brad insisted there weren't any plans.

Arriving at the screening on Killing Them Softly at the May Fair Hotel, he said: 'No plans yet. Other than, we're gonna do it.'

The father-of-six was going for a smart-casual look in a beige and cream combination of slacks, T-shirt, blazer and shirt, with his hair pulled back in a small ponytail.

Although the crime thriller is for adults, Brad insisted he had made his movies for his kids to watch they're older.

All over beige: Brad's summers on the French Riviera are clearly influencing his wardrobe.

He said: 'It was kind of the reason for the zombie film I've done (World War Z) - my boys are going to like that one. But I'm actually more interested in the films that they're going to enjoy when they're adults.'

Brad is father to three sons Maddox, 11; Pax, nine; and Knox, four; and three daughters Zahara, seven; Shiloh, six; and Vivienne, four.

Killing Me Softly is based on the George V. Higgins novel, Cogan's Trade and directed by Andrew Dominik.

Night at the cinema: Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt looked cute in a floral skirt and black T-shirt.

Brad plays Jackie Cogan in the movie, which is set in New Orleans against the backdrop of the financial crash and the last American presidential election.

Speaking about co-star Richard Jenkins, Brad explained: 'Watching Jenkins, I felt like I was watching Peter Sellers, really, and I mean that. And then watching Gandolfini I felt like I was watching (Marlon) Brando.

'For an actor you have respect for other actors when they do something that is under the skin and unexpected and something I would have never expected. You really enjoy it, and this was one of those experiences.'

Look who's here: Joanne's Downton Abbey co-star Jim Carter, who plays Mr Carson, also attended.

Joining Brad at the low-key screening was Downton Abbey stars Joanne Froggatt and Jim Carter, who play servants Anna Bates and Mr Carter respectively.

Killing Them Softly, which has been produced by Brad's production company Plan B, opens in cinemas on Friday September 21.

In one of the most telling moments of the trailer, Kristen Stewart as Bella Cullen says: 'Forever isn't as long as I hoped.'

However, it seems she recovered pretty quickly, swanning off to Toronto Film Festival this evening to promote her new film On The Road instead of taking to the stage at the VMAs with her co-stars.

The rest of the crew - Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, director Bill Condon, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Jackson Rathbone - all spoke onstage at the Staples Center ceremony.

Target: The Volturi mistakenly believe Renesmee is an immortal child rather than Bella's daughter.

Kristen Stewart returned to the spotlight this evening in her first red carpet appearance since news of her affair with married director Rupert Sanders broke six weeks away.

The Twilight actress was in Canada for the Toronto Film Festival promoting new film On The Road.

Estranged boyfriend Robert Pattinson was noticeably missing from festivities, as she flew solo with blonde publicist Ruth Bernstein instead.

The 22-year-old appeared to have been styled in an ambivalent style of dress, innocently decorated with flowers, but suggestive with its sheer bodice and lace lower skirt panel making it see-through.

Her long hair had been swept over her left shoulder, gelled, plaited and pulled into place.

She looked every inch the vamp compared to co-star Kirsten Dunst's ice pink prom princess dress.

Back to the day job: Kristen poses with Garrett Hedlund and Kirsten Dunst.

While Kristen offered a smile for the camera when posing with a hand on her hip for photographers, the atmosphere proved a little overwhelming and she was later seen with crossed arms looking sad.

In July, Kristen was photographed in the arms of father-of-two Sanders, breaking not only the hearts of his wife Liberty Ross and her long-term love R-Patz - but loyal fans across the globes.

Pattinson has since returned to the limelight, squirming his way through various appearances as he promotes new David Cronenberg film Cosmopolis, while avoiding questions on K-Stew at all cost. 

British model Liberty also ventured out, making a statement by removing her wedding ring.

To add further embarrassment, today it was revealed that Rupert gushed about his leading lady in the DVD commentary for Snow White and the Huntsman - before their affair was uncovered.

Providing commentary over the action, he said: 'This is the first dialogue I shot with her, I said maybe you do a prayer. Her accent was flawless, she did such an amazing job on it.'

It remains to be seen if Robert and Kristen will both attend the premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, with the release date due in just two months time on November 16.

Girl 17, in court for sleeping with neighbour’s husband...

A 17-years-old girl, Titilayo Ojo of Kado village of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja was on Thursday arraigned at a Senior Magistrates’ Court for committing adultery with her neighbour’s husband.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the prosecutor, Sim Emmanuel, a police sergeant, told the court that on August 30, one Mrs Idongesit Sunday of Kado village, reported the accused at the Life Camp Police station.

Emmanuel said Sunday reported that she caught the accused having sexual intercourse with her husband on her matrimonial bed on Aug.29.

He added that when Sunday picked up a quarrel with her husband over the incident, he poured a pot of boiling water, which contained pepper, on her.

Emmanuel told the court that Sunday had since been admitted at the Asokoro General hospital following injuries she sustained in the attack.

He said that the accused was charged with adultery, adding that the offence was punishable under Section 388 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Senior Magistrate, Abdullahi Illelah, consequently granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned to September 12.

N5000 note will kill production – Obasanjo...

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday said the introduction of the N5,000 note would kill production and affect small businesses negatively.

Obasanjo, who spoke at a round table advocacy forum organised by the Institute of Directors, Nigeria, in Lagos, said the way the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, was fighting inflation by removing money from circulation was improper.

While speaking on the cost of doing business in the country, Obasanjo called on stakeholders and government agencies to rise up to the challenge.

He said some observers had suggested that the Vision 2020 blueprint was somewhat of an ambitious agenda, which was unrealisable considering the daunting challenges confronting businesses in the country.

Obasanjo said the 2012 annual report of the International Finance Corporation and the World Bank publication titled, ‘Doing business in a more transparent world,’ noted that a record number of African countries took decisive steps to encourage more local entrepreneurs to come into the formal economy over the past 12 years.

He said, “Across the continent, 15 countries lowered barriers to entry for new businesses, 23 facilitated access to credit, and seven made it easier to pay taxes. Nigeria is not in any of these leagues.

“In its 2008 report, Nigeria ranked 108 out of 178 countries and in the space of four years, we rank 137 out of 183 countries measured. This is a damning report on our business environment and, therefore, calls for more concerted efforts by various stakeholders on how to ensure that this trend is reversed and the Nigeria business environment is made more conducive for investments and less costly for businesses to thrive. We cannot aim for 2020 if we do not halt the downward spiral.”

Also at the forum, the Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, said nine industrial cities in the country would begin to enjoy uninterrupted electricity supply by the first quarter of 2013.

THEY are still in pains over the loss of their fathers, mothers, children and other loved ones in the June 3, 2012 Dana plane crash.

On Thursday, they kicked and protested the lifting of the suspension Dana Air’s operational licence by the Federal Government.

Their agonies, according to them, is worsened by the fact that the governement did so even when investigations into the crash were yet to be completed and the remains of some of the deceased yet to be buried.

To them, Dana airlines, which they accused of negligence that caused the death of 153 people , should not be allowed to fly its aircraft in the Nigerian air space.

Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, had on Wednesday announced lifting of the suspension because of “government’s satisfaction with the airworthiness of the airline after rigorous technical, operational and financial audit of the airline.”

Many members of the families of the victims disagreed with the decision.

Obinna, son of the late General Manager, Corporate Affairs of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Levi Ajuonuma, on Thursday launched an online campaign asking Nigerians to sign a petition seeking boycott of Dana flights.

“Three months after the suspension of their licence, the Federal Government has decided to lift the suspension. The wounded hearts are still bleeding and not being taken into consideration here,” he wrote.

The family of the late Col. Lt. Col. Ochigbo Jumbo, in an interview with The PUNCH on Thursday, said the lifting of the suspension on Dana Airlines, when investigations into the crash had not been concluded, showed the insensitivity of government.

Frank, a younger brother of the late Jumbo, said that the government was toying with people’s emotions.

He said, “The lifting of the suspension of the licence on Dana Air less than three months after the accident shows you the failure of a government which has no feelings for the people.

Terrorism: Telecoms firms threaten to cut off North....

Major providers of mobile telephony in the country have threatened to withdraw their services from the North.

They hinged their threat on the spate of attacks on base stations which has made them to lose a whopping N1.03bn.

The umbrella body of the telecoms operators, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, on Thursday said its members were losing too much to the development and may close shop if it became too dangerous to operate in the region.

The major GSM providers – MTN, Glo, Airtel and Etisalat – are all members of ALTON.

Gunmen, also on Thursday reportedly bombed a base station belonging to an indigenous telecoms infrastructure company, IHS Nigeria, in Kano, barely 24 hours after the attack on several base stations in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi and Gombe states.

The Executive Director, Commercial and Business Development, IHS, Mr. Gbenga Onakomaiya, who confirmed the development to our correspondent on Thursday, said one of the company’s base stations was bombed in Borno on Wednesday while another one was bombed in Kano on Thursday morning.

Officials of ALTON put the number of base stations that had been attacked in the north at 26.

President of ALTON, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, who decried the situation, said “If it becomes impossible to continue to do business in the face of rising attacks on telecoms sites, operators will naturally suspend operations in the area.

Patience Jonathan’s Ailment Not Detected In Nigeria...

More on-line reports on the health status of First Lady Patience Jonathan yesterday indicated that her ailment, appendicitis or inflammation of the appendix, was not accurately diagnosed by doctors who first examined and treated her before she was flown to the German hospital where she is now recuperating after surgery.

The reports according to Sahara Reporters, referred to the steady deterioration of her health even after being attended to by Aso Villa physicians when she returned from Dubai where she was said to have been treated for “food poisoning”.

It will be recalled that a spokesperson of the Horst Schmidt Klinik in Germany told LEADERSHIP correspondent on phone that the first lady had undergone surgery to remove poison from her intestine after her appendix ruptured.

Medical sources attributed a ruptured appendix to delayed or incorrect diagnosis of appendicitis which manifests in steady worsening of the patient’s condition and eventually peritonitis when the appendix ruptures and its contents spill into the intestines and the stomach.

This scenario tallies with the health condition of the first lady before she was evacuated to the German hospital.

A heartbroken teenager threw herself off a bridge - while her ex-boyfriend filmed the tragedy on his mobile phone.

Jilted Joanne Griffiths, 19, plummeted to her death moments after her ex-lover Gary Newell tried to talk her down.

An inquest heard Mr Newell filmed Joanne’s death leap because he feared he would be 'blamed' for her death.

Tesco worker Joanne was 'finding it hard to cope' after breaking up with Mr Newell, the coroner was told. She had been drinking heavily when she bumped into Mr Newell, 22, and his new girlfriend in a bar in her hometown of Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.

The inquest heard Joanne had to be escorted out of the bar after arguing with her ex boyfriend, before she stormed off and climbed a footbridge over a busy dual carriageway.

The inquest heard Mr Newell followed her and tried to talk her down after she climbed over safety railings over the road.

Emergency services were called to the scene and police tried to talk to Joanne.

The road was closed and a specially trained negotiator was on the way when Joanne let go of the railings and fell to her death.

Mr Newell told police he had recorded their last conversation on his phone 'because he did not want to be blamed' for her behaviour. He also filmed her last moments on the bridge before she fell.

A post mortem showed she had 126mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The legal drink-drive limit is 80mg.

Flowers mark the scene where 19-year-old Joanne Griffiths fell to her death.

Joanne’s mother Monica told the hearing: 'She was in a good mood before going out that night. But I know she did change if she had a lot of drink.'

Pembrokeshire Coroner Mark Layton recorded a narrative verdict saying Joanne’s motives were not clear.

He said: 'It seemed Joanne had found it difficult to cope with the breakdown in her relationship with Mr Newell.

'She also had a considerable amount to drink that night.

'Her injuries were sustained falling from height but the question of intention remains unclear.'

While he is singing about the sex tape, it was recently claimed Kanye - who has known Kim for four years - had refused to watch it.

A source said: 'For all his bad-boy image, he's quite old-fashioned and [while they were still just friends] he thought it inappropriate to view Kim's tape. Now that they are a couple, there's no way Kanye's ever going to look at it.'

Kim and Kanye have been dating for six months, but have known each other for a 'decade'.

How many lovers is too many? According to the latest survey, 10 really is the perfect number.

Researchers found that both men and women were put off potential new partners who had had more than 10 partners - as they were seen as promiscuous.

But partners who had had fewer than 10 lovers were seen as inexperienced.

Both men and women said that ten lovers was the right ‘Goldilocks’ answer.

With ten lovers - like the porridge in the children’s fairytale - you are neither too hot nor too cold.

Dating site www.SeekingArrangement.com asked 1000 of its male and female members to list how many lovers they wanted a new partner to have.

Half of all women, and 46 per cent of men said ten was the perfect figure, whereas 36 per cent of women and 42 per cent of men said they’d prefer a date with less experience.

Above the odds? Nick Clegg (left) told Piers Morgan he had 'no more than thirty' notches on his bed post, whereas Mick Jagger's magic number of lovers is reportedly 4000.

11 per cent of women and 10 per cent of men said between 10 and 30 was the perfect figure - with just 3 per cent of people wanting a partner who had had more than 30 lovers.

Those polled were also asked if they wanted to know how many lovers a new partner had had in their past. Just 35 per cent of women wanted to know a man’s total - against 65 per cent who would rather not find out.

For men, only 30 per cent wanted to know a woman’s sexual history, against 70 per cent who said they would rather not find out.

The results give a fascinating insight into dating etiquette - and suggest men are less tolerant of promiscuity than woman.

Nikki Howarth, 26, who runs her own party planning company in Nottingham, said: 'It is definitely a perfect ten for me.

'You want to date a man who is confident and knows what he is doing sexually.

'To be good in bed, you need experience and you get that through getting to know what women want.' Nikki, who has been on SeekingArrangement for the last year and is currently dating a millionaire businessman she met on the site, said she would never tell a man how many lovers she’d had.

She said: 'Guys do often ask me but I’d rather not say - you like to keep a bit of mystery.

Democrats on Thursday morning nominated United States President Barack Obama for a second term as president, setting up a showdown this fall with Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

In a raucous roll call of states that stretched into early Thursday, Ohio put Obama over top, giving him a victory that was a foregone conclusion before the first caucus in January, wistv.com reports.

Four years ago, Obama prevailed in an epic primary fight against Hillary Rodham Clinton to become the first black presidential candidate to lead his party. This time around, Obama was the only Democrat on the ballot in every state and former President Bill Clinton put Obama’s name in nomination.

Democrats are scheduled to nominate Joe Biden for a second term as vice president later Thursday.

Former United States President Bill Clinton on Wednesday night nominated US President Barack Obama for re-election as the Democratic National Convention’s candidate.

Clinton delivered a thumping endorsement Wednesday night of Obama, saying his policies were slowly healing the country and would lead to dramatic improvement in a second term, the Los Angeles Times reports.

“No president, not me or any of my predecessors, could have repaired all the damage in just four years,” Clinton said in a rapturously received speech that capped the second night of the Democratic National Convention.

“But conditions are improving, and if you’ll renew the president’s contract you will feel it,” he said, jabbing the air with a finger for emphasis. “You will feel it.”

“We certainly want those at the top to do well,” said New York Senator Charles E. Schumer. “But if you base your entire presidency and your entire economic platform on helping them do even better, you’re missing what makes the economy tick, because not everyone has been as fortunate as Mitt Romney. You cannot base your whole approach on a life experience as rarefied as his.”

One after another, women invoked Romney’s opposition to legal abortion and proposal to cut federal funding for Planned Parenthood, saying it would turn back the clock on their rights.

“We’ve come so far, we’ve come so far, so why are we having to fight in 2012 against politicians who want to end access to birth control?” said Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood. “It’s like we woke up in a bad episode of ‘Mad Men.’”

Concerns as fraudsters move into bureau de change business...

For those who have their dollars or other foreign currencies to convert to the Nigerian currency, being duped is now a major concern in Lagos as touts parading themselves as bureau de change operators are on the prowl.

PUNCH Metro investigation showed that the fraudulent operators could be found in many bureau de change offices in the metropolis.

The touts operate near bureau de change offices on the Island, Muritala Muhammed Airport, Alade Market, Ikorodu, Agege, Sabo, Yaba, Awolowo Road among others to solicit for customers

Our findings reveal that they use many strategies to fleece people of their hard currencies.

The most vulnerable set of people being short-changed are those who change their currencies while remaining in their vehicles.

A man, who fell victim recently, told PUNCH Metro that he was fleeced of N7,000.

Ogunde said as soon as he struck a deal with the currency trader, his cohorts rallied round him and created a chaotic atmosphere

He said, “I left home last Sunday in high spirits to convert his $100 given to me by an American friend. But I was duped at Alade Market.

“When I got there, one of them asked me, ‘how much do you want to change?’ I told him $100and he said I would get N16,000. I told him I would only accept N16,500? He reluctantly agreed.

“The tout gave me some money and I parted with the dollar. When I counted the money he gave me, it was N1,000 less. So, I told him the money was incomplete. He said I should bring it for him to confirm. Then I gave it to him.

“When he counted the money, he admitted that it was N1,000 less. He brought the addition from his pocket and added it to the N15,500.

“He gave the money back to me and as was counting to confirm if it was correct, he and his colleagues started shouting police! police!

Diezani’s sudden trip to UK fuels speculation...

There were speculations on Wednesday over the mission of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Dieziani Alison-Madueke, to the United Kingdom.

The minister is believed to have traveled to the UK unannounced last week. She is not on leave, The PUNCH learnt.

While some sources in Abuja claimed that she was in the UK to receive medical attention, others said she went for an undisclosed private matter.

A source at the ministry told our correspondent that the minister was not ill.

When contacted, Director of Public Affairs at the ministry, Mr. Kingsley Agha, said he (Agha) was hospitalized and had been barred by his doctor from answering calls.

Another source told our correspondent that Agha was part of those that received Alison-Madueke  when she was in Anambra State on Thursday for an official assignment. The source insisted that the minister was not in any hospital.

Alison-Madueke had earlier on Wednesday posted on her Facebook wall that she was hale and hearty.

“On the contrary to recently published articles concerning my health, I haven’t been hospitalized in London. Both my family and I are well,” she wrote.

But, she was absent at the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Although no reason was given for her absence, there were fears that it might not be unconnected with the report by an online news site that she was currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed London hospital.

On Tuesday, Alison-Madueke did not turn up to make presentation on the budget performance of her ministry to President Goodluck Jonathan as scheduled.

Ministers who had taken their turns before the President later briefed State House correspondents at the end of their presentation.

News had gone round that Alison-Madueke would take her turn on Tuesday.

But fears that she would not come for the presentation were confirmed when the Economic Management Team meeting started without her showing up.

Tears, sorrow as fire guts Ibadan market

Traders at Labaowo Market, Ogunpa, in Ibadan North West Local Government of Oyo State were on Wednesday thrown into confusion and sorrow when a section of the market was razed by fire.

Wailings of the traders generated emotions as little could be done to salvage some of their belongings. It was learnt by our correspondent that the market went up in flames at around 10am as an inflammable product (adhesive) allegedly caught fire destroying items worth millions of naira.

The President, Labaowo International Market, Alhaji Lukmon Alaka, said tragedy struck when a woman opened a can of gum near another woman who was cooking.

Alaka said, “A woman was cooking noodles beside her when the place went up in flames following an explosion. The shops went up in flames.”

He, however, stated that traders at the market had been warned against cooking in the market.

According to him, three people with five buildings were affected by the inferno. However, he said no life was lost in the incident.

Those injured were said to have been taken to an undisclosed hospital where they were treated and discharged.

Recalling that it was the second time the market would be razed by fire, Alaka said close to one billion naira worth of property were destroyed.

The chairman, while calling on the state government to provide fire station in the market, solicited assistance for victims of the inferno.

Cynthia Update: Police recover 50 nude pictures...

Police detectives at the Area E Command, Lagos have said Cynthia Osokogu’s killers took pictures while sexually assaulting her.

The Area Commander, Damian Okoro, said, “The pictures are contained in a recovered black Compaq 610 laptop belonging to Nwabufor Okwuomo, one of the suspects who lured the deceased to Lagos.”

The laptop is also said to contain over 50 nude photographs of female victims who have fallen prey to the suspect.

Some of the photographs showed girls tied with rope and their mouths covered with cello tape with objects inserted in their private part.

Osokogu’s naked photographs also showed bites and wounds inflicted all over her.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation on Wednesday said it had concluded arrangements to sue the management of Cosmilla Hotel in Festac Town, Lagos, where Osokogu was murdered by ‘BlackBerry friends’ over illegal operation.

The deceased was allegedly drugged, raped and dispossessed of her belongings and later killed.

The corporation also said it had issued a query to the management of the hotel to explain why had refused to register with it in accordance with laid-down rules and regulations.

Gunmen Destroy Telecom Masts In Kano, Maiduguri...

Gunmen in Maiduguri and Kano attacked and damaged several mobile phone masts yesteday, including those belonging to MTN and Airtel, security sources and one of the companies told Reuters.

In Maiduguri, a Reuters reporter saw 10 masts burned to the ground yesterday morning and local residents complained there was no mobile telephone reception.

In Kano, men on motorbikes destroyed MTN and Airtel mobile phone masts in the early hours of yesterday, a policeman told Reuters, asking not to be named.

“We confirm that like all the other major telcos, some of MTN’s installations in northern Nigeria have been damaged by unknown persons,” spokeswoman Funmilayo Omogbenigun said.

“All the relevant government security agencies have been informed and we are receiving their full co-operation.”

A police spokesman in Kano and Maiduguri declined to comment, saying investigations were ongoing. Airtel was not immediately available for comment.

95 Days After Dana Air Crash, FG Lifts Ban On Airline...

The Federal Government has succumbed to pressures to lift the suspension of the Air Operating Certificate (AOC) of Dana Air which was suspended in the wake of the June 3,2012 aircraft accident involving a Dana Air flight in Lagos in which more than 153 persons lost their lives.

The government has been under pressure to lift the ban on the operations of the airline due to the reduced capacity it created in the nation’s domestic airline operations.

Mr. Joe Obi, Special Assistant (Media) to the aviation minister who announced this yesterday, said the lifting of the operating license of Dana Air, “follows government’s satisfaction with the air-worthiness of the airline after a rigorous technical, operational and financial audit of the airline.

“By this development, Dana Airline is free to resume its normal commercial flight operations. Government will however continue to strengthen its oversight and regulatory functions to ensure that all airlines operating in the country, including Dana adhere strictly to safety procedures as required by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Act and all other relevant local and international regulations that ensure and promote sustainable air safety.”

He added that the operating license of Dana Airlines was temporarily suspended following the crash of one of its aircraft on June 3, in Lagos as a safety precaution.

Some industry stakeholders had condemned the government’s step over the grounding of the airline’s operations stating that it was not usually a global practice, while others had stressed that it was important as the airline operates only MD83 aircraft, stating it was safety measure that will determine if the aircraft type had structural defects.
