Nigeria on Saturday interrogated suspected kidnappers of two Europeans killed during a botched British-Nigerian rescue operation amid a row between Italy and Britain over the incident.

Italian engineer Francesco Molinara, 48, and his British colleague Chris McManus, 28, were believed to have been shot by their captors before they could be rescued in the assault authorised by British Prime Minister David Cameron on Thursday.

Nigerian security sources told AFP eight suspects had been flown to the nation’s capital Abuja and had confessed to killing the two Westerners in the northern town of Sokoto during a Nigerian-British military operation to free them after almost a year in captivity.”Those that were arrested in connection with the incident were brought to the SSS (secret police) headquarters, Abuja yesterday,” a security source said.”

The bad-blood flowing between top Nigerian female singer, Asa and former label, Questionmark Entertainment has taken a new dimension.

Going by the latest development, Asa has alleged death threats on her by some people.
Asa took to twitter yesterday to make this known. According her tweet, "I am passionate about my music, I have received death threats from these people, I have kept my head up and focused on giving my best always."

Tweeting further, the international artiste tweeted, "I do not have any NEW ALBUM selling in Nigeria called DOWN ON ME. Please do not purchase it!
She further pointed out the perpetrators behind the illegal sale of fake CDs.

According to her, "unfortunately, we blame it on Alaba Market but it's not from them but from Question Mark Entertainment. Please pass on this message.
Asa then further hinted on plans to take a legal action on Question Mark Entertainment with this tweet, "we will inform you of any LEGAL releases when there is.

You will recall that Asa fell apart with Question Mark Entertainment some years ago. It was speculated that her former label boss, Kelvin once pointed a gun at her, which led to the birth of the track, Jailer.

I rejoice with the happy mother and thnk God for her her and her babies.        
However long it lasts, labour is a gruelling affair. So spare a thought for Joanna Krzysztonek, who endured an astonishing 75 days of it. And as if that wasn't challenging enough, the 31-year-old was forced to lie upside down for the entire time.
Mrs Krzysztonek was pregnant with triplets when she went into labour at 21 weeks. Her first baby was born prematurely and, tragically, was too weak to survive.

UK deports 120 Nigerians

The United Kingdom on Friday deported 120 Nigerians for various immigration offences.

The deportees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, aboard a chartered aircraft. Airport sources said the first batch of the deportees had arrived in the early hours of the day, while the second batch arrived later in the evening.

Immigration sources said a total of 120 Nigerians were sent back into the country on Friday. According to them, the deportees were mainly young men and women.
The deportees, mainly young men and women, were said to have narrated their ordeal in the UK to some airport workers.

Jonathan begs Boko Haram to lay down arms

He urged them to embrace peace so that they could join hands with his administration to tackle the nation’s common enemies, which he identified as poverty, unemployment, disease, hunger and illiteracy. Jonathan made the call in Makurdi, Benue State ,while rounding off his two-day visit to the state.

He said the task of building a just, equitable and modern society was a joint one that could not be achieved by the government alone. He said development could only be possible in an atmosphere of peace and stability. He said, “Our nation is today faced with security challenges for which the government is handling.

SHOCKER: Explosives Intercepted In Lagos From South Africa

The security challenges facing Nigeria seems to be taking a dangerous dimension as those running the 'arms business wing' of the insurgency are bent on causing more troubles for the rest of us.

Security agencies at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, on Friday intercepted eleven cartons of explosives weighing 95 kilogrammes which were smuggled into the country.

Catridge Powder Devices and Chargers were flown in from South Africa since February 24, 2012, but vigilant personnel at the Nigeria Aviation Company Limited, warehouse alerted security agencies, when they observed that the importer wanted to smuggle them out of the cargo terminal without declaring the items, even as the relevant duty on the items were not been paid to government.

Speaking on the seizure, the Customs Area Controller, MMIA Command, Mr Charles Eporwei Edike, while parading the suspect before journalists, affirmed that the importer, who claimed that he is a miner in Kaduna State, brought in the explosives into Nigeria concealed in pallets made of other goods without disclosing to the relevant authorities the content.

Mother who Recorded her Boyfriend raping her Underage Daughter Sentenced to 2

Personally? I feel this mother aside persecution by the Law, should be flogged 124 strokes of the cain! Don't ask me why I am suggesting 124 strokes! She deserves more! A mother of four, who recorded her boyfriend raping her underage daughter, was sentenced to 21 years in jail by the Sessions Court here after she pleaded guilty to abetting him.

The taxi driver boyfriend, Ma Kasim Sirat, 44, was slapped with a 30-year jail term and 15 lashes of the rotan. The mother, a 30-year-old executive taxi service supervisor, admitted to three counts of abetting her boyfriend, who raped the then 11-year-old girl on three occasions at at their Apartment.

The offences were committed between December 2009 and March 2010. Ma Kasim admitted to three counts of raping the girl at the same place and time..... The girl testified in the trial earlier that the second incident happened on her 12th birthday on Jan 31, 2010.

She said her mother had called her into a room to get a “ birthday present”. In the third incident, her mother recorded the rape on her handphone camera. Yesterday, the mother cried and pleaded to the court for a lenient sentence.

18 corps members feared killed in auto crash

Eighteen graduates of the Imo State University, Owerri, are said to have died in an auto crash on Thursday night. The graduates were said to be on their way to the National Youth Service Corps camp in Taraba State for their orientation programme.

They were said to be intending Batch ‘A’ corps members. It was learnt that they picked up their call-up letters from IMSU late and in order to meet the deadline for resumption in camp, they decided to make the journey by night.

The details of the incident, which remained sketchy as at press time, were yet to be confirmed by the authorities. But a former editor with the Daily Times stable, Angela Ulunma Agoawike, broke the news on the wall of her social network site, Facebook.

Agoawike wrote, “Report coming in has it that about 18 graduates of Imo State University heading for Taraba State for the Batch ‘A’ NYSC orientation camp have all died in a motor accident.”

Adam Fuseini and his girl friend, Karimu Memunatu, have been arrested at Kapgagyili, a suburb of Tamale, by a community vigilante group when they were found having sex in the night at the community cemetery.

According to a reliable source, the two are currently being questioned by the traditional elders of the community “for casting a slur on the traditional norms and degrading the dead,” and to ascertain the motive behind the act.
The lovers were said to have first absconded when they were sighted at the cemetery, but the decision of the girl to later trace her sandals back to the place enabled the men to arrest her.

Boko Haram's Plot To Attack The South?

A plot by the militant Islamic sect, Boko Haram, to extend its operations to the southern part of the country has been uncovered by security agencies.

SATURDAY PUNCH investigations in Abuja on Friday showed that the sect had chosen some southern cities such as Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu, Onitsha and Warri for attacks.
It was learnt that following sustained attacks on the sect’s strongholds in Borno and Yobe states by security agencies, its members had dispersed to other parts of the country.

Security sources said that the group, which had carried out several devastating bombings and gun attacks in Kano that claim over 185 lives, was looking beyond the North in its future terror campaign. One of the reasons for spreading its operation to the South, it was learnt, was in order not to limit its campaign to an ethnic agenda.

OFFICERS FROM the Accra Regional Police Headquarters arrested a 32-year-old man on Tuesday March 6, 2012 in an operation at Madina Zongo Junction, Accra.

Kwaku Sakyi, a driver resident at Larteh Akuapem in the Eastern Region, was arrested at about 5:00am with four dry human bones while scouting for a buyer.
He was arrested upon a tip-off when he arrived at Madina in the hope of meeting one Alhaji whom he claimed bought such items.

Police investigation revealed that the bones were dug out from an abandoned cemetery at Larteh.
Sources at Larteh told police that the parcel of land, which used to be a cemetery some hundred years ago, had long been abandoned. An eighty-year-old source disclosed that when he was young, the town was not burying their dead in that potion.

A randy, fugitive pastor, James Nana Kwasi Agyeman, has been arrested after jumping bail for about four years.
Nana Kwasi Agyeman, 42, Founder and General overseer of the Church of Shiva Linga Prayer Group in Abidjan, La Cote d’Ivoire and Dome in Accra, was re-arrested at his hideout at Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region after absconding for almost four years whilst standing trial on charges of defilement involving eight children.

He was hauled before an Accra Circuit Court yesterday where he was remanded into prison custody to re-appear on March 19, 2012. Pastor James, who was domiciled in La Cote d’Ivoire, is reported to have defiled the eight children with ages ranging from three to 12 years old.

A Jamaican woman died from a massive allergic reaction that could have been caused by the glue in her hair extensions. Atasha Graham, 34, who had used hair extensions for 14 years, collapsed after a night of clubbing.

According to Daily mail, Pathologist Michael Heath told the inquest into her death that the latex glue used to apply her extensions – or the solvent for removing old ones – may have been to blame.

We Have No Nation Yet, Says Tinubu

In the wake of election malpractices and irregularities in the country, former governor of Lagos State and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has opined that Nigeria is not yet a nation.

Speaking at the 84th birthday and book launch of former governor, Old Western Region, General Robert Adeyinka Adebayo in Lagos yesterday, Tinubu reiterated that until Nigeria reaches that stage where one man, one vote is entrenched, it cannot be regarded as a nation. Tinubu noted that it calls for concern that Nigeria is still fighting poverty in the midst of plenty.

He said there is urgent need for electoral reforms to save the country from anarchy and chaos.

Tinubu, who was the chairman of the occasion, said having fought tirelessly for the liberation of Nigeria during his active days, Gen. Adebayo by now should be reaping the fruits of a developed nation, but it’s unfortunate that the “country is rather sliding into doldrums.” 

“We are still fighting poverty in the midst of plenty. Please forgive us and don’t be ashamed of the country you worked for. Just encourage us because we have no nation yet. We would have been better if there is one man, one vote.

“We put agencies together to entrench one man, one vote, but what we are getting is one man, many ballot papers. INEC is wallowing in logistic problems. There is no database. And our electoral system is getting to a point that the more you look, the less you see. But even if the ruling party continues to short change the majority, we will not give up,” Tinubu stressed.

Accused Of Witchcraft, Woman Buried Alive

I am totally stunned and hurt that this kind of behaviour is still being practiced in Nigeria???

Utang Edet, who owned a church in her native village of Ikot Edem Odo in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, South south Nigeria, was accused of offering her family members for money making ritual and before she was buried alive, she had allegedly killed five members of the family.

A family source in Ikot Edem Odo told P.M.NEWS that mysterious deaths regularly occurred in the family without anyone knowing the cause of death until Joseph Edet Offiong died early February this year. “We concluded that we had to do something before premature death took everyone in the family away,” Ekanma Edet Offiong, a member of the family said.

According to her, the family met and resolved that there should be findings to know what was the cause of the deaths and “we decided to send somebody to Anang in Akwa Ibom State to find out and eventually we discovered that she was responsible for the killings and more were lined up to die if she was not stopped.”

She said when the family discovered that she was responsible for the killings, a meeting was summoned and she was invited to appear before the family to explain her role but she refused to honour the family’s invitations and gave excuses that she was too busy with church activities. That convinced the family further that she was aware of what was happening or had a hand in the deaths, Ekanma added.

Nigeria’s Failed Hostage Rescue:Italy rage at Britain

Here is a follow up on the failed rescue attempts on the late British and Italian who were kidnapped in Nigeria last year.

Committee meeting on Friday as anger spread over Britain’s failure to consult Italy before approving an attempt to rescue an Italian and Briton in Nigeria. The inter ministerial committee for the security of the Republic (CISR) was meeting to reconstruct the events of the failed British and Nigerian operation to save Franco Lamolinara and Chris McManus, who were kidnapped last year. 

“The tragic episode in Nigeria is unbelievable. The Italians are clearly humiliated,” said Antonio Puri Purini, columnist for the Corriere della Sera newspaper, which spoke of the government’s “rage” over the diplomatic incident. “It is an unacceptable slap in the face and saying sorry is not enough,” 

it said. Monti was only informed by Britain once the blitz was already underway and the Repubblica described the “dramatic phone call” with British Prime Minister David Cameron in which Monti demanded “details on exactly what happened.”

Gay Nigerian Asylum Seeker rather dies than come back Home!

I am not so sure what to say about this story! Sincerely? Most Nigerians would actually not welcome him with open arms! I guess his concern should be his family first then the society!

A Nigerian asylum seeker has said he would ‘prefer dying’ than being deported back to his home country from the UK in two days time. (which was yesterday) John Abraham, 25, is currently in Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre near Heathrow airport, west London and is due to be deported to Nigeria on 8 March.(Can't confirm if he has arrived yet o).

He told Gay Star News that an article on our site was his last hope to avoid being sent back where he fears he will face persecution and physical attack.

And he asked us to identify him as he said the danger to his safety would be no greater if he was deported – as everyone in his community in Nigeria already knows he is gay.

Report has it that Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, an Iranian who was sentenced to death for refusing to renounce his Christian faith and embrace Islam has been executed by hanging. He was given some weeks of grace to renounce Christianity and embrace Islam but he refused, leading to his hanging. This is wickedness of the highest order. As far as I am concerned, we are in the end times! He has gone to be with God! Amen!

Driver arraigned for attempting to kill judge

A 33-year-old commercial driver, Quadri Kasali, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court, Tinubu, Lagos, for attempting to kill a Lagos High Court Judge, Justice Adebanji Adebajo, on March 1, 2012.

The accused was said to have been driving a commercial Vanagon bus at about 2.20pm along Moloney Street, Lagos Island, when he committed the alleged crime.

The police alleged that the accused hit the judge with the commercial bus, with registration number XA 242 KLK, when the judge challenged him over his manner of driving, and of obstructing other road users. The judge, who has not been able to sit since the incident occurred, was said to have sustained a severe injury on his right arm.

Kasali pleaded not guilty to the one count of attempted murder preferred against him before Chief Magistrate M.A Ladipo. The offence was said to be punishable under Section 228(2) of Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011. While the matter was adjourned till April 3, the accused was remanded in prison custody.

I did hope at a point that this story was true! Loved seeing marriages work! That's the original plan!

The news of top Nigerian singer, 9ice expecting baby number two from his estranged wife, Toni Payne, has been generating lots of reactions. A lot of fans of the Alopomeji Records boss have labelled the recent moves by both parties, especially that of Toni Payne, in different terms.

So, when the news of Toni being reportedly 6weeks pregnant for 9ice' second child after Zion, dust were raised.

In the heat of it all, 9ice has debunked the story. The Gongo Aso crooner took twitter to clear the air about the pregnancy rumour. According to him, "I shake my head in disbelief. I am sure my true fans won't believe such news. It is so untrue. I wish you all the best. Thank you for your support. God bless."

9ice and Toni Payne got married in 2008, but separated in 2010 after producing a child, Zion, from the union. Though 9ice was reported to have had other relationship afterwards, but the reverse is the case with Toni Payne.

The duo, according to recent information,are taking the film industry by storm. Uti and Bryan recently starred in a movie titled True Citizens.

True Citizens is a movie produced by Elvis Chuks. It featured Uti Nwachukwu, Bryan Okwara, Alex Usifo, Clara Iweh, Alex Ekubo, and other acts.

According to Elvis, True Citizens reflects the spirit of the true citizens who can make it through dint of hardwork instead of all the illegal business. The film is expected to screen in cinemas on April 16.

Lagos, Ogun police collaborate to rescue abducted woman

I do not believe that we have to wait for people to be killed or kidnapped or even raped before measures in securing our lives and properties are both put in place by us and our government! Street lights! Adequate and responsible security agents at strategic points on our roads etc are some of the necessities needed to save guard the citizens... 

The police have commenced investigation into the abduction of Mrs. Jumoke Oyegbola on Tuesday night by unidentified men at Isheri-North area of Ogun State. PUNCH Metro learnt that on Tuesday, around 9pm, Oyegbola was on her way to a friend’s house at River View Estate, Isheri North LSDPC, in her Mitsubishi Montero car, when some gunmen blocked the road in front of her vehicle and started shooting in the air indiscriminately before dragging her out of her car.

It was gathered that the victim’s car was later discovered by the roadside, less than 200 meters from the scene of the incident.Her belongings were still in the car, fuelling speculation that she might have been kidnapped.

The police on Thursday arraigned a 25-year-old man, Abdulrasaq Adeniyi, before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl (name withheld). Adeniyi, who works within the area where the girl’s school is situated in Phase 2 Estate, Lagos Island, allegedly lured her to his home at 31, Anikotamo Street, Lagos Island, after school hours on January 25 and forcibly had carnal knowledge of her.

The girl’s mother, Munirat, told the court that she looked everywhere for her daughter when she did not return from school after 4pm. Munirat said, “It’s unusual for my daughter not to get back from school before 4pm.I tried looking for her when I couldn't see her traces but she was still nowhere to be found. “She later came home herself around 8pm.When I asked her about her whereabouts, she told me Adeniyi lured her to his house after close of school and raped her.”

Roadblocks: 38 policemen, FRSC officials face trial

No fewer than 38 policemen and eight Federal Road Safety Corps officials are facing orderly room trial for defying acting Inspector-General’s directive for the dismantling of roadblocks across the country. Mr. Mohammed Abubakar on February 14 ordered that all intra-state checkpoints be removed, regretting that they were being used by many policemen to extort money from motorists.

The officers were said to have been apprehended in different parts of the country for defying the order and setting up roadblocks to extort money.

Our correspondent learnt that the errant officers were arrested by the committee on anti-corruption set up by the Force Headquarters to ensure compliance with the IG’s order. The officers, who are being detained in various police stations nation-wide, may be dismissed if found guilty.

Italian, Briton killed during rescue operation in Sokoto

Two Europeans – a Briton and an Italian – kidnapped by Boko Haram in May 2011 were killed in Sokoto, Sokoto State on Thursday during a rescue operation by British and Nigerian special forces. News of the failed rescue attempt was relayed yesterday by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Mr. David Cameron, in a special statement issued from his 10, Downing Street office.

Chris McManus, from the North West of England, and his colleague Franco Lamolinara were working for an Italian construction firm, B Stabilini, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State when they were kidnapped by members of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

A 25-year old man, Emmanuel Agbudu has been arrested and charged before Apapa Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria for stabbing Blessing Edet after she refused him sex. Blessing, who claimed to be a ‘ hustler’ in Ajegunle, told Agbudu that she would not allow him have sex with her for free or on credit as he wanted.

This resulted in a fight between them and she was stabbed with a broken bottle. Agbudu told the police that he pleaded with Blessing to allow him have sex with her free of charge since she had lured him to her room. He said that she refused because he had no money to give her, adding that he offered to pay her some money later.

He is facing a one count charge of assault for the offence. The Ebonyi state-born had met Blessing at her abode at 29, Balla Street, Ajegunle, Lagos, and demanded for free sex.

Bombs Rock Gombe Town; Banks, Police Stations Attacked

In what could be described as fresh madness, unidentified gunmen on Wednesday evening attacked banks, police stations and shops in Ashaka, in Gombe State, Northwest Nigeria. Ashaka is home to popular Ashaka Cement factory listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Similarly, explosions rocked Gaidam and Potiskum in Yobe State Northeast Nigeria on Wednesday evening.

Explosions were also heard close to Nigerian border in Borno State about the same time.

A source told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, that the explosions in Ashaka started at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday and it lasted for about an hour.

According to the source the blasts were accompanied by gunshots. Residents ran to safety while the explosions lasted.The Gombe State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Orubebe Ghandi confirmed the incident.But he advised residents not to panic as the police were on top of the situation. He said he was yet to receive the details of the incident but his men had commenced investigation into the incident.

Driver Beats LASTMA Chief With Charms

A 36 -year old driver and his conductor have been arraigned before Ejigbo magistrate’s court, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, for allegedly beating up a top official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, with charms. Akeem Omotayo and his conductor, Owolabi Awofala, 35, are facing charge of assault before the presiding magistrate, Mrs M. B. Floami.

The defendants were alleged to have beaten Olagun Oluwatosin with charms, which made him lose his senses around Jakande Estate, Isolo, Lagos.

Oluwatosin became helpless, motionless and lost his senses and did not do anything while they were beating him.While testifying before the court, Oluwatosin said the men used charms on him and he was watching them while they beat him up and damaged his properties. As a result, he sustained injuries.He said he was unconscious until his colleagues forced them to bring the remedy before he regained consciousness.

The level nine-officer told the court that his ordeal started along Jakande Estate road when he stopped Omotayo, who was driving a commuter bus for breaking the traffic laws.

Arsene Wenger has been charged with improper conduct by UEFA after confronting referee Damir Skomina following Arsenal’s 3-0 win over AC Milan on Tuesday night.The Arsenal manager confronted the Slovenian official on the pitch after the final whistle and criticized him in his post-match comments. A UEFA spokesman said: “A disciplinary case has been opened for improper conduct.” If the case is proved and Wenger is given a touchline ban, it will be the third time within the space of a year he has been given such a sanction by UEFA.

Controversy surrounds death of single mother in Lagos

Edith Nwokolo, who resided at 94, Mushin Road, opposite Ire-Akari Road Junction, Isolo, Lagos State, was visited by her estranged lover, Amaechi Uchenna, on February 23 around 10pm. By 11pm, Nwokolo had died in mysterious circumstances while Uchenna was still in the apartment.

Nwokolo’s family members alleged that the victim was strangled by Uchenna after a failed attempt to rape her. But the police said the cause of her death had not yet been ascertained as they were still awaiting the autopsy report.

The suspect is being detained at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba. PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect, a native of Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, had informed Nwokolo that he was visiting her since they had not seen each other for long. It was learnt that although Nwokolo, who hailed from Owerri Olubor, Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, acceded to his request, she told one of her relations about the proposed visit.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Uchenna and Nwokolo’s romantic relationship soured four years ago when the 40-year-old woman became pregnant for the man. Uchenna was said to have denied responsibility for the pregnancy but after intervention by their families, he accepted it.

However, Nwokolo’s uncle, Mr. Emmanuel Adukpe, a computer engineer, said when Nwokolo had a baby, Uchenna abandoned her and the child.
