Her parents beat her up for having a black boyfriend. So why does Jane say it's HER fault - and she wishes they hadn't been jailed?

David Champion punched his daughter, now 18, in the face several times, while her mother Frances watched before landing her own blow.
David Champion punched his daughter, now 18, in the face several times, while her mother Frances watched before landing her own blow.

Hello Friends!

Trips to the beautiful Gower peninsula and the annual family holiday to Spain punctuate Jane Champion's many happy memories of her childhood.
Hers was the kind of family who sat down to meals together. Her parents were hard-working people who encouraged their children to do well at school.
Today that once-happy family has been smashed to smithereens as Jane still struggles to come to terms with the night her parents carried out a vicious physical assault on her.

David Champion punched his daughter, now 18, in the face several times, while her mother Frances watched before landing her own blow.
The reason for this brutality? They didn't like the colour of her boyfriend's skin — a fact they made abundantly clear when they sought him out and screamed a torrent of racist abuse so vile that police were called.

It is hard to imagine more shocking parental behaviour. This week David, 50 was sentenced to a year in prison and his 47-year-old wife to nine months for assault and racial abuse, leaving their youngest daughter, 13, to be looked after by her maternal grandmother and their eldest daughter racked with guilt at the way her mixed-race relationship has torn the family apart.

In this fraught, highly-emotive situation, Jane and her boyfriend Alfonce Ncube, 21 — known as Alfie — remain shellshocked. Both shy and sweet-natured, they are still struggling to comprehend what went wrong.
Even more surprisingly, Jane is anxious to almost justify her parent's actions, even absorbing some of the blame. Alfie is equally anxious not to be blamed for tearing a family asunder.
'The last thing we wanted was to see them locked up,' says Jane. 'Whatever they've done they are still my mum and dad and I know they love me and want the best for me. But it was out of our hands. They're not bad people. I think they were taken by surprise by the relationship and they were both reacting to negative stereotypes.'

Alfie nods, clutching his girlfriend's hand. 'I don't want people to think I came in and destroyed a family. This is the very last thing I wanted to happen,' he says gently.
But there's no getting away from the fact that Jane's family has fragmented catastrophically. As her parents start their jail sentences, she's had to move out of her family home and now shares a small flat with Alfie in her native Swansea.

She is due to start university next month to study Sports Science and Alfie is studying for a counselling and psychology degree. Both work waiting tables to pay their bills.
It's clear that Jane still loves her lorry driver father and her mother, a primary school teaching assistant.
'We had ups and downs like any family, but we got on well,' says Jane. 'I was close to Dad. We're quite similar, quite shy,' she says.

'You deserve it': Jane was punched in the face by her father after admitting she was still dating Mr Ncube. Her mother also hit her, saying 'you deserve it. It is all your fault.'
'You deserve it': Jane was punched in the face by her father after admitting she was still dating Mr Ncube. Her mother also hit her, saying 'you deserve it. It is all your fault.'

Alfie's family circumstances, meanwhile, were more nomadic, but still respectable. His parents, both now social workers, came to Britain from their native Zimbabwe 13 years ago to join relatives.
The move was a culture shock for Alfie, then eight. He'd been in boarding school back home, and admits that adapting to life at a chilly primary school in Southend, Essex, was difficult.
Nonetheless, he made good friends and did not, he says, have a moment's trouble there because of the colour of his skin.

My marriage got off on the wrong foot –Husband

court gavel

Hello Friends

A 43-year-old man, Uchenna Nwosu, recently pleaded with an Agege Customary Court in Lagos to dissolve his marriage of eight years.
The father of three accused his wife, Christiana, of being disobedient, nagging and assaulting him publicly.
He claimed that the marriage started on a wrong foot and because of that, it could no longer work.

“My wife is a very disobedient woman, she nags at every little thing I do. She disobeys me and also encourages the children to disobey me as well.
“That woman is a liar because she lied to me about her age. I found out when I was going through her school certificates.
“When I confronted her, she said I should mind my own business, that it is her life. To me, this is not marriage, this is hell.

“On May 28, 2011, she wanted to go out that evening but I was trying to persuade her not to go because her children needed her to prepare food for them. Instead of her to stay back, she left, giving the excuse that she had an important thing to attend to.
“When she came back, she met my children and I watching a programme on the television, the next thing she did was to switch off the television and asked me to return the money she lost because I delayed her from achieving what she went out to get. I saw that I couldn’t handle the situation again so I moved out.

“A month later, she came to my office to embarrass me. She tore my shirt in the public pretending to demand the children’s school fees. Due to this incident, the management asked me to resign.
“Before I got married to her, my family did not approve of our union, but I went ahead because of the love I had for her then but now, I can’t take it anymore, I want a divorce,” Uchenna pleaded.
However, Christiana refused to show up at any of the hearings at the Magistrate’s Court and the Customary Court.

The president of the court, Mr. Emmanuel Sokunle adjourned the case till Aug. 15 for continuation of hearing.

Soldiers seize Boko Haram weapons after raid

Hello Friends!

Nigerian troops recovered weapons in raids on suspected Boko Haram bases in two northern cities, officials said Saturday.
A raid in Tudun Bayero, some 10 kilometres from Kano, northern Nigeria’s largest city, was carried out early Saturday after a tip-off, Kano State director of State Security Service (SSS) Basil Etang told AFP.

He said items recovered included 33 improvised explosive devices, nine rifles, 139 rounds of ammunition, ammonia fertiliser and nitric acid.
“We also discovered some military uniforms being used by the terrorist elements to commit their crimes”, he said, adding that three suspects were arrested.

The raid in Kano came two days after another cache was discovered in Maiduguri, another hotbed of the Islamists, where four AK-47 assault rifles, a machine gun and ammunition was recovered, another security official said.
Nigerian soldiers have stepped up their crackdown on members of Boko Haram which launched an uprising in 2009 which was brutally put down, leaving hundreds dead.

The group has killed more than 1,400 people since 2010 in attacks across northern and central Nigeria, according to a new toll released this week by Human Rights Watch.

Candidates during an examination in Kaduna

Hello Friends!

The West African Examinations Council on Friday released the results of the May/June 2012 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
The candidates for this year’s examination performed better than their counterparts in the last three years.

A total of 649,156 candidates representing 38.81 per cent of the total candidates that sat for the examination this year obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
This represents an 8.9 per cent increase above last year’s performance, where 471,474 candidates representing 30.91 per cent had five credits and above in five subjects, including English and Mathematics.

In 2010, 317,142 candidates representing 23.71 per cent of the candidates that sat for the examination obtained five credits including English and Mathematics.
Addressing journalists in Lagos on Friday, the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Dr. Iyi Nwadiae, said a total of 1,695,878 candidates registered for this year’s examination out of which 1,672,224 sat for the examination.

He said out of the total number of candidates, 1,545,004, representing 91.10 per cent, had their results fully released, while 150,874 candidates, representing 8.90 per cent had a few of their subjects still being processed because of some errors mainly traceable to the candidates and schools either in the course of registration or writing the examination.
Nwadiae said of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, 771,731 candidates (46.14 per cent), obtained six credits and above and 952,156 candidates representing 56.93 per cent obtained five credits and above.

Apart from improved results this year, the WAEC boss stated that cases of examination malpractices declined compared with previous years.
He said the positive trend was an indication that investment in the education sector was beginning to yield dividends, adding that cases of malpractice would naturally reduce when candidates were adequately prepared for examinations.

He, however, said the results of 112,000 candidates, representing 6.70 per cent were being withheld in connection with various cases of examination malpractice.
He explained that the cases were being investigated, adding that the reports of the investigations would be presented to the Nigerian Examinations Committee of the council in due course for consideration.

He said the committee’s decision would be communicated to the affected candidates through their schools.
He said 114 blind candidates registered for the examination. Out of this number, 95 candidates sat for the examination.

He said candidates could check their results on the council’s website:
www.waecdirect.org within the next 48 hours.

The harm Nollywood and religion cause Nigeria

Nollywood Film Shoot
Nollywood Film Shoot.

Hello Friends!

With all the Nollywood hype on juju, money rituals, power rituals, witches and wizards, and prayers that cure all problems, one would have thought that Nigeria would be topping the medals’ list at the on-going Olympics in London. The Americas, Asia, Europe and other parts of the world would have stayed by the sidelines kowtowing with trembling and trepidation as Nigeria pockets medal after medal.
But regrettably, it seems the potency of the juju from these named climes dwarfs ours. Or, perhaps the citizens of these continents pray better and harder than we do. Or, put more resignedly: Maybe God loves these nations more than Nigeria.

Less than three weeks ago – precisely on July 25 – the media reported the arrest of two men from Nasarawa State, near the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with the fresh head of a seven-year-old boy. The victim was identified as Samu Danjuma, the child of their neighbours. According to the confession they made to the police before the media when they were paraded by officials of the State Security Services, they had lured the boy with a loaf of bread, drowned him, and beheaded him for sale to a man who had promised them N250,000.00.

On July 27, two men were arrested in Lagos with the decomposing, mutilated body of their 39-year-old brother, Akinbuyi Ajayi, in their family house in Festac Town. Some body parts such as the head, hands, private part and a part of the two legs had been removed from the corpse. The decomposing corpse was discovered after the two were caught by the police allegedly selling some human parts. That led to a search of their house, a duplex which their parents had left behind for them.
Just like these two unfortunate people murdered by men without consciousness, many have been killed in like manner. Many have disappeared and have never been found till today.

The reason for this wicked act is that many have been made to believe that using some human parts such as head, heart, eyes, lungs, and genitals for rituals makes one rich and powerful. It is also believed that elections are won easily when charms are prepared with such human parts. There is also the belief that such human parts can be used to prepare charms that will make someone invincible, with such a person’s body impenetrable by bullets, arrows and machete cuts.

It is futile arguing whether these claims are true or false, for mystical issues are never empirical and open. But one question nobody has been able to answer is: If human sacrifice or the occult gives such stupendous and inexplicable wealth and power, why are the top ten richest men in the world not all Nigerian men of the occult, since the money that comes through the occult flows in like a river while the money that comes in through businesses and investments comes in countable proportions?

This belief that money and power can be obtained through human sacrifice and the occult has been accentuated and promoted by many of the films produced by the Nigerian home video industry. It is a fact that the 1992 home video, Living in Bondage, which was the first Nigerian home video that kick-started what is today known as Nollywood, focused primarily on the making of money through the occult. A young man, who saw himself living from hand to mouth as an employee, was convinced to sacrifice his wife to the occult to become rich. He budged and suddenly became a multi-millionaire. At the end of the film, a pastor delivered him from the grip of the occult. Interestingly, many people believe that such rituals can indeed give them wealth and power, and so they seek occult powers and human sacrifice as the solution to their financial problems.

Residents flee as soldiers, police invade Okene

Policemen on patrol
Policemen on patrol.

Hello Friends!

Human and vehicular movements were light in Okene, Kogi State on Thursday as an uneasy calm pervaded the town where gunmen killed 19 worshipers at the Deeper Life Bible Church at the Eikha-Adagu area on Monday.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi, Mr Mohammed Katsina, said on Wednesday that four persons had been arrested in connection with the killings.

Travelers, who normally spent some 30 or more minutes to navigate the traffic in the town, spent only about five minutes on Thursday.
Soldiers and policemen mounted two checkpoints where they searched vehicles and their passengers.

They also conducted a house-to-house search for weapons allegedly stolen from two soldiers who were killed in a separate attack by gunmen on Tuesday. Two civilians also died in the incident.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the action of the security agents caught residents unawares and some started fleeing to neighboring towns in Edo, Ondo and Ekiti states.

The Kogi Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Simon Ile, told NAN that policemen were sent to Okene for what he called a “mop up” exercise.
He said the security agents would sustain the operation until all the culprits behind the killings were apprehended and the arms stolen from the dead soldiers were recovered.

OKENE MASSACRE: Kumuyi Breaks Silence

Hello Friends!

General Superintendent, Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi has broken his silence following the massacre of 19 members of his church in Okene, Kogi State, Northcentral Nigeria.
He said the attack by gunmen was wicked and premeditated and called on the government to protect the citizens.
Pastor Kumuyi

Kumuyi, who spoke for the first time since the dastardly incident occurred, expressed deep sadness and sorrow at the attack on Monday night on his Church during the Bible Study service.

“The attack is not only wicked, but utterly premeditated. The government should come to terms with the fact that a large swathe of people are being sent to the grave early, even as law enforcement agents seem unable to provide the required protection for all law abiding citizens. All these have implications for the progress, development and well being of the nation. Pastor Kumuyi warned that no nation could continue the way things were going in the nation.

“These killings and destruction have been going on particularly in the northern part of our country for too long. Each time they occurred, the usual condemnations are made, but thereafter, the people are left without any assurance of their security and safety. No nation can continue this way.“It is hard to reconcile that peace-loving people, sitting in their church, and listening to Bible Study were gunned down in cold blood by people they had done nothing to provoke,” he lamented.

Kumuyi condoled with the families of all those who were killed in the attack and prayed for the quick recovery of all those injured by the gunmen, assuring that he would continue to pray for them.He called for prayers in the nation to salvage the despicable situation at hand, saying that God would surely come to the aid of His people.

Security fears: Clinton cancels scheduled Abuja meetings

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

Hello Friends!

THE heightening of security in Abuja on Thursday notwithstanding, the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, shelved many of the activities scheduled for her and left Nigeria for Ghana.
She later held a meeting with the Ghanaian President, Mr. John Mahama, at his residence in Accra. She is billed to participate in the state funeral for the late President John Attah Mill.

Clinton, on the last lap of her nine-nation African tour, departed the country shortly after a closed-door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Security Council, but she shelved scheduled meeting, with civil society groups and anti-corruption campaigners billed for the US Ambassador’s residence in Abuja.
The US Secretary of State also shelved the traditional ‘Meet and Greet’ with US Embassy staff.

At the closed-door session with members of the National Security Council were the Minister of State, Defence, Chief Olusola Obada; National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.); Chief of Defence Staff, Air-Mashal Oluseyi Petinrin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika; and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Muhammed Abubakar.
The Federal Government had deployed security agents in many parts of the Federal Capital City, including the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and Umaru Yar’Adua Way, which were manned by soldiers and policemen as part of the security measures for Clinton’s visit.

Security agents were also at the Federal Secretariat and the Central Business District.
Also, roads leading to the Presidential Villa and the Federal Secretariat and the Central Business District were manned by armed security agents.
Foreign media reports on Thursday however indicated that Clinton would not pass the night in Nigeria because of security fears.

“The security situation in Nigeria has deteriorated to the point where the movement of US Embassy workers is often restricted. Clinton will spend only five hours on the ground and will not spend the night in Abuja, where the hotel traditionally used by visiting dignitaries has been the target of terrorist threats,” the Associated Pressreported on Thursday.
Before she left the country, however, the US Secretary of State had encouraged Jonathan to take tough decisions necessary to change the fortunes of the country and that the US would support him.

Bees sting bulldozer driver to death

Hello Friends!

Tragedy struck at Setraco Road construction site in Ogboin-ama community, Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, on Wednesday when a bulldozer operator was stung to death by bees. The victim, Mr. Samuel Onuabuchi, had been working with the company for about five years before his death.

The deceased, a father of four, who hailed from Anambra State, was felling and evacuating trees and debris at the site from Ogboin-ama to Akugbene community around 2pm when the bees attacked him.
A source, who did not want his name mentioned, said there was nothing the deceased’s co-workers could do because of the large number of the rampaging bees.

The source said, “Though he tried to run, the ferocity of the bees was so much that he fell down and was pleading for help, but nobody could get close for fear of being attacked too.
‘’The attack reportedly weakened him as he was already gasping for breath before we could go near him.’’

It was learnt that by the time Onuabuchi’s co-workers got to him, he was already unconscious and could not speak. Onuabuchi, 44, was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Bomadi, where he reportedly gave up the ghost a few hours later.

When contacted, a top management employee of the company, who pleaded anonymity described the incident as ‘’shocking.’’
‘’Michael would be missed for his commitment and dedication to whatever job he was given,’’ he said.

Suspected Fulani herdsmen strike again on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

P.S. Picture does not represent story...

Hello Friends!

A commercial motorcyclist, popularly called okada rider was on Monday stabbed in the stomach by two hoodlums suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on the long bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
It was learnt that the victim, Mr. Owolabi Habib, had picked his assailants at Berger, Lagos, who posed as passengers.

The hoodlums had told him they were going to New Kara, Ogun State, located around the long bridge.
A source within Habib’s family said, “As soon as they got near their destination and Owolabi(Habib) slowed down, one of the men pulled out a long knife and stabbed him in the stomach.“Habib told us that he abandoned his okada and fled to save himself. But the stab was so deep that his intestine came out.”

It was learnt that a motorist later rescued Habib and rushed him to the Lagos State Accident and Trauma Centre at Tollgate.

Lagos Pastor, Primate Ayodele's Sex Escapades Exposed*Sleeps With Staff*Scams Top Politicians*Plus His Fake Predictions

Hello Friends!

My Thoughts: These times are strange and dangerous and sincerely? There cannot be smoke without fire...

Popular Lagos pastor and self acclaimed Nostradamus of this time, Primate Ayodele of Inri Alaseyori Cathedral Church, a white garment church in Lagos, is now the major discourse in the Christain circle over his sudden wealth and his alleged nefarious activities, which many claim, is ungodly to the Christian lifestyle.

Aside being alleged to be a shrewd scammer, he is also said to be fond of anything in skirt. It would be recalled that in one of his predictions, he had predicted that late president, Musa Yara Adua would return to Nigeria hale and hearty, but unfortunately for him, the former President reportedly died due to complications arising from his illness.

The latest gist emanating from the household of this Ekiti born prophet is that, Primate Ayodele is alleged to be a grade 'A' fake pastor who consults the Ifa-oracle to tame his victims. His victims are said to be Governors, Senators and some top-rated politicians in Nigeria. He was said to have made his money in Kwara State during the era of Olubukola Saraki.

So close was he to the then Kwara State Governor, that no event was held without the presence of the state's representatives. Informantion also reaching us, is that he is also alleged to be having  an affair with his personal lawyer (name withheld), who is a mother of two.

The said female lawyer resides around Oke–Afa area of Isolo, which is very close to the headquarters of Primate Ayodele's church in Oke Afa, Isolo, Lagos. Tongues are wagging over this illicit affair with the lawyer whose husband is based in Ghana. The Primate has been spotted at the woman’s residence on several occasions.

El-Rufai detained, released at Lagos airport

Hello Friends!

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, was delayed for one hour before travelling to Dubai on Wednesday afternoon by officials of the State Security Service attached to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Unconfirmed sources said El-Rufai was delayed for interrogation by the SSS officials.

SSS officials at the MMIA declined to make comment when our correspondent visited its office.
SSS spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, however described the story as a “mere rumour” when she was contacted.
But el-Rufai described his brief detention by the SSS on Tuesday as unfortunate.

El-Rufai, in a message to our correspondent on Twitter, confirmed that he flew from Lagos to Dubai on Emirates flight EK 784.
He expressed shock at the agency’s denial of his allegation.

El-Rufai said, “Why should I lie? I travel all the time; why now? These clowns are pathetic. These are new lows in bad governance.”
Meanwhile, our correspondent gathered on Wednesday evening that embattled lawmaker, Mr Farouk Lawan, actually travelled to Dubai through the MMIA on Tuesday, contrary to media reports that he was stopped.

The three suspects arrested for the killings in Okene, Kogi State....on Wednesday

Hello Friends!

THE police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested three suspects in connection with the Monday and Tuesday gun attacks in Okene, Kogi State, in which a total of 24 persons, including two soldiers, were killed.
The Kogi State Police Command said the suspects were arrested at a hide-out on Idare Hills of Okene following a tip-off and after a brutal gun exchange between the police and the suspected criminals.

Among the arrested is a 50-year old woman. The suspects were said to have opened fire on sighting the policemen in their hide-out with the leader of the suspects sustaining gunshot wounds.
The wounded leader, named Yekini Isah, was said to have been picked up later in Edo State while receiving traditional treatment for his injury.
The arrest was confirmed by the Police headquarters in a statement by Force deputy spokesman, Frank Mba, on Wednesday.

Mba’s statement reads in part, “In the ensuing battle, the gang leader identified as Yekini Isah of Obehira area of Okene sustained injury on his head. Though he initially escaped from the scene, he was trailed and arrested in a hide-out at Ibilo in Edo State, where he was receiving native treatment for his gun wounds.
“Two other suspects, including a female, were arrested during the operation. One AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of live ammunition was also recovered from the criminals.”

Mba said the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, commended the police operatives from Kogi and Edo commands for “their professionalism, courage and gallantry, and thanked Nigerians for their cooperation, partnership and faith in the police force,” adding that investigation and efforts at tracking other fleeing members of the gang continued.
Kogi State police commissioner, Muhammed Katsina, who also confirmed the arrests to journalists in Lokoja said the suspects were responsible for the Monday attack in which 20 members of the Deeper Life Bible Church were murdered in cold blood, and the killing of two soldiers at the Central Mosque, Okene, on Tuesday.

Katsina said his men shot some of the suspects and that all efforts would be made to arrest other members of the gang.
He stated that with the effort of Edo Police Command, the police also recovered the suspects’ traditional uniforms.
Katsina warned that people that concealed weapons for criminals or sponsored them would be consider as accomplish and would be treated as such.

One of our correspondents observed an increase in the number of security agents on duty in Kogi State on Wednesday. A security source said more security personnel had been deployed in the state on the orders of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Meanwhile, the Christian Association of Nigeria on Wednesday called for additional security coverage of churches in the country.
The President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, in a statement by his Special Assistant (Media and Public Affairs), Mr. Kenny Ashaka, also commiserated with the families of victims of the attack and the church.

He said, “Oritsejafor believes that from this attack in Okene, the enemies of Christians and Christianity in Nigeria have changed tactics from their Sunday attacks on churches to an everyday onslaught. He, therefore, urges the leadership of the various churches in Nigeria to step up security around their churches as they hold their daily devotions, crusades and vigils while also being security conscious at all times.
“The Federal Government should also change its strategies by making the various Joint Task Forces stronger through the provision of additional military and Police cover for churches in the northern part of the country and internally stiffening its intelligence network.”

According to him, CAN has been in the forefront of those calling on the Federal Government to be decisive, adding that “now is the time to save the Church and innocent Nigerians from the attacks of murderous groups who believe that the only way to fight for God is by killing those who are not of the same faith with them and those against their understanding of the Muslim religion.”

Ashaka quoted the President of CAN as saying that Christians would not be deceived to think that they were not the targets of the “murderous gangs” just because they had started attacking some fellow Muslims, adding that the Muslims being attacked were those opposed to the callous activities of the gang.
While sympathising with the Muslims, Oritsejafor urged them not to be discouraged by the threats from “bloodthirsty gangs.”

According to him, CAN believes that the attacks on them are diversionary and calculated to shield their real motives from the world. “They are to deceive Nigerians and indeed the international community that their attacks are not only aimed at Christians.”
“CAN repeats without fear that the series of gun and bomb attacks are primarily targeted at Christians in the North in order to exterminate all forms of western education and enthrone Islamic law of Sharia as the universal law in Nigeria, a country with multi-religious population,” he said.

The Action Congress of Nigeria also on Wednesday urged President Jonathan to immediately convoke a national conference on the worsening insecurity in the land instead of offering platitudes any time the deadly Boko Haram struck out lives out of innocent Nigerians.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Ibadan, the party said the government must admit that it was clearly not winning the war against terrorism and as such must adopt a completely new strategy if we were not all to be consumed by the raging violence even as it condemned in very strong terms the recent needless bloodletting in Kogi, Sokoto, Yobe and Borno states.

“Nigerians today are not safe in their homes, offices, roads or places of worship. Terrorists, kidnappers armed robbers and arsonists have taken complete control of the country and all the government can offer are platitudes,”the party lamented.
The party called on Jonathan to free himself from self-serving advisers and reach out to all leaders across the nation irrespective of political loyalties, religious or ethnic prejudices to find an urgent solution to the scourge.

It also called on all leaders – political, ethnic or religious – to refrain from inflammatory statements as some of these pronouncements had done nothing but fanned the ember of discord.
However, the police also said that their men on Wednesday defused a high calibre Improvised Explosive Device planted at Rigiya area of Sokoto by an unknown motorcycle rider.

The police said that a concerned citizen gave them information about the explosive which was hidden in a black polythylene bag and planted in front of the secretariat of one of the political parties.

My Weekend In Pictures...Uti's Birthday Gig...

Sir Uti

Hello Friends!

Yeah! I know this post was supposed to come earlier than now? Well, you know what they say "better late than never".

Considering the fact that I am not always available for parties, a lot of preparation had to be made on my part, to attend Uti's party. It would have been rude of me not to have honored his invitation...My two sisters and I prepared happily for it.
Yes, the usual questions...Dress? Make up? Hair? Shoes? Bag? Nails? And not always the case with most Nigerians, Gifts?
By Saturday mid morning, all the above questions have been answered...I was set for a cool and fun filled week end...No reservations...Well, a little bit*wink*.

The venue: Caliente N0 9, Goriolla Street Off Adeola Odeku Street Victoria Island Lagos...The time:11:00pm sharp (as indicated in the BBM Invitation). Dress Code: None! This is usually the part I like.

By 11: 30pm, my sisters and I were at the venue and surprised to see that we were the first guests to arrive!*shocked expression*.
We waited for a while until guests started arriving...The celebrant himself was no where to be found and I silently wondered what he would do/say to his guests when he arrives. You know how some so called celebrities can be: Arrogant, Snobbish and extremely way over their heads with people...Well, sipping our drinks, we waited patiently while we took personal photos...

Lily & Cassandra....
Yours Truly ( Francheska)....

The celebrant worked in with so much entourage, that all I could think of was: How would Uti treat his waiting guests...It was a relief to see him leave his crew and shake/hug all his waiting guests and at the same time apologizing for coming in late! How often do you see this?

Sincerely? I was impressed and my growing respect for Uti, increased...I guess we can take that to the bank*wink*...

Since the celebrant had arrived, the party commenced....Here are some of the party photos with friends....It was indeed a fun filled night with lots of dancing, drinking and chatting...I did like the crowd...No celebrity infested gathering (laughs) It was just a simple gathering of friends and family...Nice combination...

Spain sack Olympics coach

Luis Milla
Hello Friends!

Spain U21 coach Luis Milla’s contract will not be renewed after the Olympic side he led at the London Games was dumped out in the group stage without scoring a goal.
The RFEF contacted both Milla, who led Spain to the European under-21 championship title one year ago, and physio Juan Carlos Martinez on Tuesday to say neither would be offered a contract extension, it said on its website (www.rfef.es).

“The RFEF would like to publicly thank them both for their work since they were hired in 2008 and 2009 respectively,” said the statement.
Spain, one of the Olympic tournament favourites, lost their opening two Group D games 1-0 to Japan and Honduras, dashing their medal hopes, before being held to a goalless draw by Morocco.

Under-19 coach Julen Lopetegui will take charge of the side for next month’s European Championship under-21 qualifiers against Switzerland and Croatia, the RFEF said.
The Olympic Games features under-23 teams with each allowed to field up to three over-age players. Spain’s humiliated side featured Euro 2012 winners Juan Mata and Jordi Alba, and Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

Joan Rivers escorted out of store by police after trying to sell her book in protest...

Funnywoman: Joan is no stranger to controversy
Funny woman: Joan is no stranger to controversy.

Hello Friends!

After weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, you'd think Joan Rivers would be pretty content with the sales of her latest book.
But it appears the veteran comedienne has taken issue with U.S. retailer Costco for refusing to stock I Hate Everyone... Starting With Me.

The 79-year-old ended up being escorted out of a Burbank, California branch of Costco on Tuesday after making an unauthorized in-store appearance.

The TV star initially started selling copies of her book outside the store, before moving inside and offering signings.
Speaking through a megaphone inside, she said: 'Costco, who sells condoms by the pallet, who sells Paula Deen books and - which is not good for their customers' health - they decided to ban my book. 'This is a First Amendment violation. You're banning a book because it says a funny quote by Marie Antoinette? Where is this going to lead us to?
'This is a store that sells 300 rolls of toilet paper at the same time, and I say any customer that buys 300 rolls of toilet paper deserves a funny book to sit on the toilet and read.'

Costco shopper Larry Grossman told ABC's Eyewitness News that the store management were unhappy with Joan's protest.
He said: 'The employee said, "What's going on here?" He said, "Well, Costco has not agreed to sell her book because there's some things in there they find offensive. But she decided to come here anyway and sell the book."'
Wearing sunglasses and shouting about her book, it wasn't long before police arrived on the scene and requested she leave the store immediately.

A Burbank City spokesman told the LA Times: 'She had a whole entourage. Sounds like a staged media event.'
No criminal charges were filed.

Red hot: Khloe Kardashian shows off her trim shape in a red mullet dress at the MDA Labor Day Telethon at CBS Studios last night.

Hello Friends!

Just days ago, Khloe Kardashian hit out at weight critics on Twitter, defending people for coming in different shapes and sizes.
And so what better way to get back at her critics by showing off her toned figure on the red carpet.
The reality TV star looked sizzling in a red 'mullet' dress as she arrived at the MDA Labor Day Telethon in Los Angeles last night.

Although Khloe's weight has yo-yoed over the years, the 28-year-old certainly looked slimmer than normal as she posed at the CBS Studios.
Her trimmer shape comes after she admitted she's been hitting the gym a lot with her personal trainer Gunnar Peterson.
She tweeted yesterday: 'Holy s**t balls that workout was brutal!!!!! But thank you @Gunnar for pushing me through it.'

On Monday, she wrote: 'Went hard in the gym today with @gunnar I am going to hurt later.'

The long and short of it: Khloe looked body confident as she showed off the different lengths of her gownThe long and short of it: Khloe looked body confident as she showed off the different lengths of her gown

Her red carpet appearance came after hit back at weight critics last week.
She said: 'Still get disgusted by how people judge others by weight. Either "fat" or "skinny". Nothing is ever good enough...
'Throwing stones behind a screen. If you must judge a person. Try judging their soul. My brick walls are getting higher and higher.

'U can't love any1 else until u know how to love urself first. The good, bad, ugly, beautiful.... Love yourself deeply. The rest is easy.'

Kourtney is just 5ft, while Kim is 5ft 2in, compared to statuesque Khloe's 5ft 10in height.
In an interview last year, she admitted she felt 'massive' next to her older siblings.
She said: 'They are 5 foot and 5 foot 2, so I look massive next to them. Everyone expects me to be 9 feet tall and weigh 200 pounds [when they meet me].

'I had older women tell me, "You should really work out." It really got to me.'

Policeman arraigned for shooting girlfriend’s sister

Blessing

Hello Friends!

The police on Tuesday arraigned Emmanuel Okujo, a 31-year-old police corporal, who allegedly shot his girlfriend’s sister, Blessing Isanbor, with an AK47 rifle on February 10, 2012.
Okujo, who also absconded with the victim’s 19-year-old sister, Patience Isanbor, was charged with attempted murder before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court.

The charge reads in part, “That you Emmanuel Okujo on February 10, 2012, at about 8:30pm, at 10, Ifateyindo Street, Gbagada, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial district did attempt to murder one Blessing Isanbor by shooting her with your K2 Police service gun with serial number 64487 which inflicted injury on her left cheek contrary to Section 228 (1) and punishable under Section 228 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State Cap 17 vol.44 Laws of Lagos State Nigeria 2011.”

Okujo pleaded not guilty and the magistrate, Mrs. J.A Anabor, granted him N100, 000 bail with two sureties, including a landed property owner in the state.
The case was adjourned till October 19, 2012.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old Blessing needs more money to carry out another facial reconstruction surgery. Blessing has undergone one surgery which was paid for by three non-governmental organisations and her family.
The Director, Project Alert on Violence Against Women, Dr. Josephine Effa-Chukwuma, said her organisation had raised some money for Blessing’s second surgery scheduled for August 9.

She said, “Project Alert on Violence Against Women in collaboration with Centre for Organisational Development and Zahara Women Foundation has raised some funds in support of Blessing’s second surgery which will take place on Thursday.
“However, more money will be needed for her third and final surgery which will take place in a few weeks.”
After the alleged shooting, Blessing was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital where she was admitted for four months and 13 days.

Our correspondent, who visited Blessing at her residence recently, observed that she still hand bandage on her jaw but her talking had improved.
Blessing said she still had pains in her left cheek, which was still swollen. She added that she found it hard to eat or even sleep.

She lamented that it was hard to adjust to the condition and feared that she would not be able to continue with her education.
Blessing’s uncle, Steven Isanbor, told PUNCH Metro that he was not satisfied with the role of the police in the matter.

“Okujo was attached to Ifako Police Division before the incident occurred. After the shooting, the Divisional Police Officer gave us N65, 000 but this is very little compared to the over N1.4m which has been spent so far,” he said.
