Personnel records of former and current members of Nigeria’s top domestic spy agency, the State Security Services, including home addresses and names of immediate family members, leaked onto the Internet in a threatening message that claimed to come from a radical Islamist sect that’s killed hundreds of people this year alone, The Associated Press has reported.

“The leak of personal data of more than 60 past and current employees of Nigeria’s State Security Service remained easily accessible on the Internet for days and had details about the agency’s director-general, including his mobile phone number, bank account particulars and contact information for his son.

“Many of agents listed who could be reached by the AP said they received no official warning from the spy agency that their information had been posted online nor been otherwise alerted. The material has been deleted from the comment section of a website, but the security breach astonished spy service veterans and calls into question whether Nigeria’s intelligence community, whose agents already have released suspected terrorists out of religious and ethnic sympathies, are too compromised from within to stop the violence now plaguing Africa’s most populous nation.

“A senior Nigerian intelligence official said authorities were aware that the leak had happened and that many were embarrassed by it. He spoke on condition of anonymity as information about the leak was not to have been made public.

“Marilyn Ogar, a spokeswoman for the State Security Service, declined to answer questions Thursday about the posting of the information.

According to the news agency, “The information leak came in two postings earlier this month on a website that provides rewritten news on Nigeria. The first posting threatened to kill agents of the State Security Service on behalf of Boko Haram, a radical Islamist sect responsible for more than 660 killings this year alone in Nigeria. The second posting simply offered a block of text containing biographical and other details about the agents.

Hip-hop bigwig Chris Lighty died after he shot himself during an argument with his ex-wife inside his Bronx apartment, it's being reported. 

Lighty, 44 - a longstanding manager of 50 Cent, Diddy, Ja Rule and Carey - shot himself in the head after an argument with his former wife at about 11.30 am yesterday(30th August 2012).

The New York Daily News confirmed this with police sources.

Law enforcement sources added that Lighty - who divorced his wife last year - may have been dealing with financial struggles, including owing about $5 million to the IRS.

Lighty, founder of Violator Management, merged with another talent company to form Primary Violator around the time of his divorce.

He said in a statement: 'I am deeply saddened by the loss of a hip-hop hero. 

'Chris Lighty has been a dear friend of mine since he was a kid. Was a brilliant partner in business and I was so proud of all that he had accomplished. 

'He is an amazing example of how a passionate kid from the street can go to the most even-keeled, smart, thoughtful manager in the business and a generous philanthropist. He was loved by everyone who knew him, including me. He will be missed greatly by all of us.'

Page Six reported in November 2011 that he was hit hard by financial issues and divorce from his wife of seven years Veronica.

An NYPD spokesman told Page Six: 'At 11.33 hours police responded to a person shot in the rear of 670 W 232nd Street. When we arrived we found a male, 44, with a gunshot wound to his head.

A firearm was recovered nearby. He was declared dead at the scene. It is being investigated as a possible suicide.'

Cynthia: ‘Sale of drugs not criminal’

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria has faulted the arraignment of two pharmacists, Orji Osita and Maduakor Chukwunonso, for the murder of Cynthia Osokogu, who was killed on July 22, 2012. Orji and Maduakor were alongside Okwmo Nwabufo and Ezike Olisaeloka on Monday at a Yaba Chief Magistrate Court. They were charged with eight offences.

But at a press conference on Thursday, the President, PSN, Mr. Azubike Okwor, said both pharmacists were people who should have been punished separately if at all.

He said, “If the liability of the two pharmacists is limited to the alleged sales of Rohypnol to clients they do not know and never collaborated with in this condemnable crime, then it is logical to believe that at best there might have been breaches of professional ethics. It should not constitute criminal offences.

“The law provides that such matters are dealt with by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, a regulatory agency of the Federal Government established by Cap. P.17 LFN 2004.

“Maduakor was on duty in Oxpharm on Monday, August 20, 2012 when a gentleman requested to buy Rohypnol. Nonso asked him for a prescription and he said he does not have one. The gentleman begged Maduakor who considered his request on compassionate grounds and dispensed to him one (1) card of 10 tablets of flunitrazapam along with one (1) card of paracetamol.

The gentleman later came with other persons, arrested Nonso and accused him of selling drug without prescription. They then took him to the police station and detained him. On the seventh day, they transferred him to Panti, where he was taken to a magistrate’s court and was charged with conspiracy, murder, armed robbery, rape and administering obnoxious substances to Miss Cynthia Osokogu who was killed by two known persons a month earlier in July 2012.

“Orji is a locum pharmacist with Oxpharm and works evening shifts. The police alleged that he was the pharmacist on duty when the suspected killer of Cynthia bought Rohypnol from Oxpharm. Osita made statement that he did not know the murderers and could not recall meeting them. He was also detained and taken to the court and charged.

“We urge the Office of the Public Prosecution in the Ministry of Justice to immediately review the cases of these pharmacists with a view to advising the relevant authorities on how best to tackle this matter and to ensure that the innocent is not persecuted unjustly.”

Obasanjo still fighting Eedris over Nigeria jaga jaga...

About 10 years after ebullient rapper, Eedris Abdukareem, released a song titled Nigeria Jaga jaga, former President Olusegun Obasanjo is still angry with him.

Obasanjo had hit back at the artiste when the album was freshly released, with some people quoting him as saying it was the singer’s father’s house that was jagajaga.

While many people may largely agree with the singer that the country is truly upside down based on the state of things, Obasanjo, has again described the song as being blasphemous. According to him producing such a song shows that the artiste does not believe in the future of the country.

The former president made the remarks in Lagos on Tuesday while speaking at a forum organised by the Nigeria Leadership Initiative. Obasanjo also expressed his passion to see the country excel.

Expressing his disdain for the attitude of some Nigerians, he said one of the worst problems Nigeria is facing is disbelief.

“Nigerians no longer believe in themselves; neither do they believe in their country. That takes me back to that song ‘jaga jaga’. How could a sane man dare to call his country jaga jaga?” he said. “It is the height of blasphemy. We are grooming our youths for tomorrow’s leadership and with such persons, I don’t think the country can move forward.”

The former president has never hesitated to express his displeasure at Abdulkareem, a former member of The Remedies, for deriding Nigeria.

The hit track of the album released on Kennis Music label was banned from radio airplay by the president in a televised address, although it enjoyed continued play in nightclubs.

Abdulkareem had a chance to reply Obasanjo in January during the fuel subsidy protest. He said, “The man wey say i dey craze because I sing Nigeria Jaga Jaga where him dey now inside this hardship? Na 2002 I singNigeria Jaga Jaga, na 2012 we dey so o.”

•Trailers banned from entering or travelling within Lagos metropolis from 6 a.m till 9 p.m. – N50,000 fine or 6 months jail, vehicle to be impounded.

•Neglect of traffic signs, traffic light – 1 year jail and forfeiture of vehicle for first offender and 3 years imprisonment and forfeiture for repeated offenders

•Driving and making phone calls or eating – N20,000 for first offender and 3 years imprisonment or N30,000 or both for repeated offenders.

•NURTW and other unions also outlawed from collecting money at the motor parks.

•Riding commercial motorcycle (Okada) on 496 major roads – N20,000 fine for first offender, N30,000 or 3 years jail or both for repeated offender.

• Carrying a pregnant woman on motorcycle – 3 years imprisonment and forfeiture of Okada

• Carrying a passenger with load on his/her head on motorcycle(okada)– 3 years imprisonment and forfeiture of motorcycle, passengers will also be prosecuted.

•Carrying a child below age 12 on motorcycle – 3 years imprisonment

• Other highlights include ban on sale of alcohol 100 metres to a motor park. Sale of goods and begging for alms on the roads are prohibited.

•Where the law did not state a specific penalty, a fine of N20,000 will be imposed on first offenders and N30,000 or 3 years imprisonment or both for subsequent offenders.

8 Nollywood actors freed on assault charges...

Eight Nollywood actors , who were standing trial for assault were on Thursday, discharged and acquitted by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Ogun state, western Nigeria.

The actors were arraigned on 6 September 2011 on charges of assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.

The actors were Lateef Dehinde (47); Oluwagbenga Edun (34); Olanrewaju Moses (32), Musibau Raimi (51) and Omishakin Olalekan (36).

Others were Olayinka Adebanjo (41); Alamotu Akeem (51) and Feyisetan Beyioku (41).

The prosecutor, Mr Banji Songotokun, told the court that the actors were members of one of the two factions of the Association of Nigeria Theatre Practitioners (ANTP) in Ogun.

“The two groups, Mcoder and Forum, had been at loggerheads over the result of the ANTP election.“The court after the case was brought ordered that no group should hold a meeting.

“Lateef Dehinde and his group called Forum, held a secret meeting at midnight, which was confirmed by the other group’s delegate (Mcoder).

“The delegates, who were sent to confirm, were beaten up by the other group,” he said.

The prosecutor said that the offence was committed on Sept. 6, 2011 at about 12.30 p.m. at June 12 Cultural Centre.Songotokun further said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 249, 351 and 517 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

The accused persons, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, were represented by Mr Adebiyi Ogundeyi.The defence counsel said that the Forum group had held no meeting and had not breached any court order.“The Mcoder group should not have sent anybody even if there was a meeting. They should have reported the case to the police and not taken laws into their hands,” Ogundeyi said.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olufunmilola Stanley, said that the defence counsel had been able to convince the court that the accused persons were innocent.

Stanley accordingly discharged and acquitted them. (NAN)

Classroom helper had sex with boys at prom: Married mother faces jail for targeting three pupils

A woman teaching assistant who was branded a 'sexual predator' is facing jail after admitting to liaisons with boy pupils after an end-of-year prom.

Emma Webb, 41, a married mother-of-two, was accused of abusing her position of trust with three boys at the secondary school where she worked, which cannot be named for legal reasons.

She wept in the dock as she admitted 16 charges of causing boys aged between 15 and 17 years to engage in sexual activities.

Pleaded guilty: School supply teacher Emma Webb, 41, admitted giving sexual favours to three teenage boys from the school she worked at near Wokingham, Berkshire (pictured).

At her first appearance in June in front of Reading magistrates, prosecutor Helen Gambrill described Webb as a 'sexual predator'.

Webb was accused of sleeping with one pupil on as many as 12 occasions and performing sex acts on him and another boy, as well as kissing and groping a third.

She also sent one of the boys graphic images she had taken while performing sex acts on herself, the court heard.

Webb, who worked as a mentor and a class cover supervisor, was suspended on May 31 when a colleague reported suspicions of her closeness to some pupils. She was arrested after one of the alleged victims reported her to his parents and the school.

Cried in court: Webb sobbed as the Judge at Reading Crown Court told her she could face jail time for her crimes which included nine counts of sexual activity with a child in a position of trust.

Her husband Andy, a plumber who she lived with in Woodley, Berkshire, listened from the public gallery. It is understood the couple had been together for the past 18 years.

Yesterday at Reading Crown Court Judge John Reddihough told her although she would been given 'full credit' for pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity, she would not be spared jail.

Webb admitted two counts of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child; two counts of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child in a position of trust; three counts of causing a child to watch a sex act by viewing a sexual image and nine counts of sexual activity with a child in a position of trust, between September, 2009 and October, 2010, in Reading and Wokingham, Berkshire.

Webb denied perverting the course of justice by allegedly asking a colleague to change reports about why she was suspended.

She was remanded in custody and will be sentenced next month.

One of her neighbours said: 'I've known Emma since she was little. She is the last person in the world I'd suspect of doing something like this.'

Contemporary gospel singer, Kenny Saint Best, has publicly told MAVIN Records boss and respected producer, Don Jazzy, and his prized artiste, Wande Coal, that if they do not stop parading nude girls in their music videos, ‘God will stop you.” 

The Kennis Music artiste had posted a series of tweets lampooning the duo shortly after the release of Wande Coal’s new video, Go Low. Maintaining that the quasi-nude dancer in the video was a thumb down for her, KSB avers, “My dear brother, Wande Coal, the mercy and favour of God are the elements that brought you this far not nude girls in your video.” Now addressing the duo, she continues, “You are bringing nudity back to Nigeria videos to increase cases of rape in our society. Please, stop it.”

Further, KSB warns, “We don’t want rape cases o. Please, Wande Coal and Don Jazzy, stop this nudity before God stops you.”

Indeed, rape is a sensitive issue in the Nigerian society and elsewhere but taking on these artistes especially on Twitter where they have a groundswell of fans and followers was perhaps KSB’s greatest undoing as she inadvertently opened a floodgate of hate tweets. A source told Life&Style: 'Adele and Simon managed to keep the baby news a secret for so long that there are rumours they’ve already gotten married, too.

Why Davido Missed London Shows

Many of his fans have besieged the Naija Corner at the Notting Hill Carnival ground to rock with the young pop star, Davido, but at the last minute, news filtered out that the ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ was stuck in Lagos.

However, Davido has tendered an apology to his UK fans for his decision to drop out of the show as well as the much-hyped D’banj’s London Koko Concert held same Monday night at the HMV Apollo, London.

In a statement made available to Showbiz Trends, the 19-year-old blamed officials at the British High Commission in Lagos for his inability to obtain a work permit as at the close of business hours on Friday, 24 August.

“I apologise for the inconvenience and the disappointment. But be rest assured that I will make it up to you all on a future date. You will agree with me that it is better to be law abiding at all times and in every jurisdictions,” Davido said in the statement.

Davido’s American citizenship grants him visa-free entry into the UK but he would need a work permit to perform at the concert.

Dog owner escapes prosecution after girl, four, is savaged by Rottweiler because attack happened on private land...

A dog owner has escaped prosecution after their Rottweiler mauled a four-year-old girl's face.

Megan Fortune had to have 12 stitches and was left traumatized after the savage attack at her grandmother's home in Suffolk.

But because the attack happened on private land, the law deems no offence was committed, so its owner will not be brought to justice.

Brutally savaged: Megan Fortune, 4, had to have 12 stitches after a Rottweiler attacked her in the face but the dog's owner will not face prosecution.

Currently owners can only be prosecuted if a dog attack occurs on public land as opposed to private property but this is set to change under new rules proposed by Defra, the government's environment agency.

The girls mother, Elizabeth Fortune, 25, is demanding an immediate change in the law.

She said: 'I just find it hard to believe that a dog can do that, let alone to a child, and there are no repercussions.'

The dog, believed to be a Rottweiler-German Shepherd cross, bit her while she was staying at her grandmother's home in Felixstowe. 

Her grandmother, Mary Hockley, was looking after the dog for a friend when it suddenly mauled the toddler.

Miss Fortune reported the incident to the police but she was told that because the animal was in a private place, no offence had taken place under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Miss Fortune said: 'i think it's ridiculous. I would absolutely love a change in the law.

'Even if it said the dog would need to be muzzled near children, I believe there needs to be something changed because I find it amazing a dog can do that and nothing can be done about it.'

She added: 'He has always been a lovely dog. We have had a lot of contact with him over the past four years.

'He has never shown any sign of aggression which is why it came as such a shock - we were just completely gobsmacked.'

Distraught Megan was taken in agony to Ipswich Hospital and cosmetic surgeons had to be brought in to tend to her wounds.

It took them more than an hour to try and repair the damage.

Megan had to have stitches above and below her eye and on her jaw line and had to stay in hospital overnight.

Megan is now making a good recovery but Miss Fortune said she was traumatized after she was savaged.

She said: 'She knew the dog quite well, I don't think she could understand why he had done that. I worry it could have been so much worse.'

The dog's owner refused to comment.

Animal Welfare Minister, Lord Taylor of Holbeach, told MailOnline: 'Dog attacks are terrible for the victims and we are determined to crack down on people who fail to keep their dogs under control.

'Earlier this year we announced we will be changing the law so that if a dog mauls someone on private property the owner will face prosecution, as already happens in public areas.'

In June a two-year-old boy was 'ripped to pieces' by a Staffordshire bull terrier.

The attack was so brutal that the toddler, Kieron Guess, was critically ill and in an induced coma after undergoing surgery for seven hours.

The dog owner, Garfield King, was not charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Wiltshire Police said that because the dog was in a privately owned garden at the time of the incident, the Act did not apply.

And in April a five-year-old girl was left scarred for life after she was attacked by an Alsatian.

Abbie Varrow, from Essex, was jumping up and down on a trampoline close to a fence at a friend’s house when the dog leapt up from a neighbour’s garden and seized her face in its jaws.

The attack lasted a matter of seconds but it took surgeons two hours to close the wounds with 60 stitches. The nerves in her nose have been damaged.

Alyson Varrow, her mother said at the time she wanted the dog's owners brought to justice.

She called for a return to dog licensing, which was abolished in the UK in 1987.

Under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, dog owners cannot be prosecuted if their animal attacks someone on private property.

This has raised controversy, especially when it comes to the case of police officers who are attacked by dogs when making an arrest in a suspect’s home and the owner escapes prosecution.

Postal workers, nurses and social workers, who are all lawfully entitled to be on private property, are also affected by the rules.

Currently, the law says only owners can only be prosecuted if a dog attack occurs on public land, not in places such as in family homes.

Four children and one adult were killed in dog attacks in private homes between 2007 and 2010. 

The number of injuries has more than doubled from 2,915 in 1997 to 6,118 in 2010. 

The Communication Workers Union launched a ‘Bite Back’ campaign to raise awareness of responsible dog ownership and to protect victims attacked on private property in 2008.

Current laws should be changed however to cover attacks on private property.

Under new rules proposed by Defra, the environment agency, but not yet put in force, courts will have the power to jail dog owners for two years or impose a £5,000 fine if animals cause injuries while 'dangerously out of control' in their own homes.

A Defra spokesman told MailOnline: 'It is fully our intention to extend the law to include private property. We are hoping to make a further announcement soon.'

A date has not yet been set for the proposals to be implemented.

"Kim has had her heart set on having a baby for a while now.

"Watching her sister Kourtney have a girl recently has confirmed it even more, but above all she wants to show Kanye how serious she is about them spending the rest of their lives together, which had been proving difficult with all the noise Kris has been making about their divorce."

The source insisted that Kardashian was not "rushing" into a relationship with West – because they have been friends for a number of years.

"The truth is that Kim and Kanye have known each other for a long time and first met over 10 years ago, so it's not a rush decision for her at all.

"She thinks Kanye has everything; he's incredibly rich, talented, and good-looking.

"She knows her baby will be taken care of and loves the ideas that they would be first-time parents together.

"Kim can't help but think how a baby could cement her and Kanye's 'brand'.

Powerful interests forced me out – Nnaji

Barely 24 hours after his sudden exit from President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet, ex-Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, on Wednesday said he resigned because some “powerful vested interests” were bent on tarnishing his image.

Nnaji added that he left the cabinet in order to save the Jonathan administration from the “spill over” of the attacks by the “powerful vested interests.”

His reaction which was contained in a statement by his spokesman, Ogbuagu Anikwe, coincided with a declaration by the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, that Nnaji’s exit would reinforce the credibility of the Federal Government’s reforms in the power sector.

But the former minister said he was proud that he left at a time that power generation and supply  had supply had improved.

The statement reads in part, “I had to voluntarily resign the office of minister to retain my integrity which has in recent days come under scurrilous attacks by powerful vested interests that were hell bent on besmirching the integrity and reputation that I painstakingly built over the years.“This resignation is also to ensure that there is no spill over of these attacks to the President who is working very hard to transform the nation.

“I feel particularly proud of the fact that my exit comes at a time that the administration has been able to generate and supply an unprecedented quantum of steady, reliable electric power in the history of our nation.

“I am confident enough to allow history and the Nigerian people to judge my performance on the task that I accepted from the President.”

He denied having conflict of interest in his handling of the power sector reform.

According to him, he resigned his directorship of all companies in which he had interest and put his shares in those companies in a Blind Trust.

Police arrest ‘700-year-old spirit’ for fraud

Police in Kano State have arrested one Nura Hamza, who claimed to be a 700-year-old spirit.

Hamza was arrested after he allegedly duped a man of N800,000.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, told reporters on Wednesday in Kano that the suspect, who resides at Kurnar Asabe quarters, was arrested on August 23, following complaint from one of his victims.

According to him, the suspect used his mobile phone to call the complainant several times claiming to be a spirit aged 700 years.

He said, “He (the suspect) directed the complainant to source money and take it to a nearby bush for spiritual duties.

“When his compound was searched, the following exhibits recovered. Seven pieces of fake $100, three bundles of cut-to-size papers with pretext to be $100, four MTN SIM certificates, three motorcycles, generator and one mobile phone.”

Idris said after the complainant had deposited N800,000 as directed by the suspect, he decided to inform his relatives.

The CP said, “This culminated in the arrest of the suspect after luring him to the destination.”

The commissioner also said the command had arrested 150 suspected criminals and smashed five robbery gangs within the last two weeks.

Tyra Banks famously graduated from Harvard Business School earlier this year. But today she came under fire from critics who have taken issue with the fact that the qualification is not a ‘proper’ degree.

The supermodel, 38, has never suggested that she has anything other than a ‘diploma’ from Harvard.

However even the word 'diploma' might be a stretch, as Ms Banks actually earned a ‘Certificate of Completion’ for her nine-week course in the university’s Owner/President Management non-degree extension program. 

While these classes are offered through Harvard Business School’s extension school, the head of the program has stated that it is ‘very different from a full-time M.B.A degree program,’ which would take two years to complete.

Nor do the classes come cheap. OPM 'clients' are required to complete three three-week units, at an ear-ringing $33,000 per unit. 

That’s nearing $100,000 for the privilege of attending classes on campus. 

The revelation regarding Ms Banks's Harvard qualification was revealed in a biting report on Jezebel, criticizing the model's ‘habit of making misleading public statements about her studies.'

It read: 'She ought to just tell the truth.’

The article goes on to say that ‘Tyra Banks is an accomplished businesswoman. There is no reason to embellish her achievements. A Harvard Business School graduate she is not.’

While Ms Banks, a former high school honor roll student, has never claimed to have a Harvard degree, it appears that she does seem set on boasting about her Ivy League cred.

In February, she tweeted two pictures of herself on Harvard’s campus.

All this name-dropping seems gratuitous, considering the successful media empire the reigning queen of fierce has built for herself: America’s Next Top Model’s 19th season (pegged as the ‘College Edition,’ coincidentally) debuted on the CW network this week.

The latest cycle is a marked departure from the past – with new judges like fashion publicist Kelly Cutrone, outspoken blogger BryanBoy, and her rumoured ‘toyboy,’ 24-year-old male model Rob Evans.

Father Jailed For Impregnating Daughter

A 54-year old generator repairer has been sent to jail for allegedly sleeping with his 16-year old daughter and impregnating her in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The man, Mr. Tajudeen Sanni, who hails from Oyo State, was charged to the Family Court, Kakawa, Lagos, for impregnating his daughter and subsequently sent to Ikoyi Prison as he could not perfect his bail condition on time.

The 16-year old girl (name withheld) is now in custody of the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation for adequate care.

The victim had accused her father of sleeping with her several times, resulting in her being pregnant.

Sanni was first detained at the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit where he allegedly confessed that he slept with his daughter four times but denied the pregnancy.

He stated that his daughter was already deflowered before he slept with her, saying that she could have gotten pregnant by other people who slept with her.

At the Family Court, presided over by Magistrate E.B. Dawodu, the accused was slammed with a two-count charge of having indecent carnal knowledge of his daughter and for sexually assaulting her.

Sanni pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned till 3 September, 2012.

Top Nigerian female gospel singer, Kenny Saint Best popularly known as KSB has gone tough on Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy and his artiste, Wande Coal over the latter's alleged X-rated content in his new music video 'Go Low'.

The gospel artiste, who could not hide her reservation on the music video, lashed out at Don Jazzy and Wande Coal accusing them of increasing rape cases in Nigeria. 

She further asked them to stop bringing back nudity into Nigerian music videos, which she said had stopped and stop contributing to rape cases or get stopped by God. She told them that God has taken them this far and they should not misuse the privilege and become an element for destroying the society with adult contents.

According to KSB, "A Naked girl in Wande Coal's new video, is a thumbs down for me. We have kids watching. You are bringing nudity back to Nigerian [music] videos to increase cases of rape in our society. It has to stopped. Please stop it.

"We don't want rape cases to increase. Please Wande Coal and Don Jazzy, stop this nudity in your [music] videos before God stops you. My dear brother (Wande Coal), the mercy and the favour of God were the elements that brought you this far, not nude girls in your [music] video. I say NO to NUDITY."

Nnaji resigns amid controversies, scandal

Minister of Power, Prof. Bart Nnaji, on Tuesday resigned from office amid controversies and allegations of conflict of interest in the privatization process.

Besides being at loggerheads with Power Holding Company of Nigeria’s workers on sundry issues, he was said to have interests in two firms that submitted bids for the Afam Power Plc and the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc.

The PUNCH learnt on Tuesday that Nnaji must have been pressured into resigning from the Federal Executive Council by the Presidency because of fears that the issue of conflict of interest could damage the credibility of the privatization process, which has local and foreign investors as bidders.

The privatization of 17 electricity firms is scheduled to be concluded in two months’ time.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan said he had accepted the resignation.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President thanked Nnaji for his services to the nation.

It was gathered that it was when it was established that Nnaji had interest in two firms, Skipper Nigeria Limited and Eastern Electric Nigeria Limited, that the National Council on Privatisation chaired by Vice- President Namadi Sambo, decided to cancel the technical bid evaluation process conducted for the two firms.

The NCP had last Friday named seven firms as the successful bidders for five generation companies.

According to Chairman of the National Council on Privatisation’s Technical Committee, Mr. Atedo Peterside, the successful bidders qualified to take part in the financial bidding slated for September.

The preferred bidders for Ughelli Power Plant are Phoenix Electricity, Transcorp Consortium and Ampiron Power Distribution Limited.

Two bidders, CMEC Energy and GPN Nestoil Power Services Limited, were named for the Sapele Power Plant.

A Nigerian church has banned its female congregation from wearing headwraps amid security fears.

St Theresa’s Cathedral Church in the south-eastern state of Enugu, introduced the measure saying the tall head wraps - known as a gele - formed a 'barricade' when women sit together on a row. 

At a mass on Sunday, Reverend Father Uche Obodoechina explained that the ban would take effect from September 9 because the geles make identification difficult. 

'Please, in view of the present security challenges, the church has urged women to stop coming to Sunday service with big head gears and bags to enable security men know when bomb will be smuggled into the church,' he told worshippers reported the Nigerian Tribune.

The church has directed security men at the church gate to seize big headgears and bags.

'This measure is aimed towards enhancing the security of the faithful during Sunday mass' he added.

Geles have been worn by Nigerian women for generations and are usually worn by females with a traditional attire, for special occasions like weddings, naming ceremonies, burials, church services, and religious celebrations.

A church previously destroyed by militants Boko Haram in Jos, Nigeria. The group is also thought to be behind an attack which left 19 dead in Lagos.

The gravity-defying wraps come in different fabrics such as damask, brocade.

Among Nigerian women, one of the most popular fabrics is a metallic cloth made from jacquard.

The decision to ban them was meet with surprise as Catholic churches in Nigeria usually state that women must cover their heads during a mass.

But the crackdown is thought to be in reaction to a series of attacks by militant Islamist group Boko Haram on churches in northern and central Nigeria in recent months as part of an insurgency that has killed hundreds.

Boko Haram has also attacked Muslim figures as well as a range of other targets, including the United Nations building in the Nigerian capital Abuja.

In mid-July, a bomb went off near another church in Okene, but there were no casualties.

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan said in June that Boko Haram was seeking to incite a religious crisis by attacking churches in an attempt to destabilize the government.

Mr Jonathan described how the group had moved from targeting local rivals to government institutions and now churches.
