Fresh faced: Lindsay Lohan looked a little pale and weary as she ran errands in Beverly Hills earlier tonight.

She is reported to have spent Tuesday night at a 'slumber party' in LA's Château Marmont hotel with Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey.

And perhaps the bash was still taking its toll on Lindsay Lohan this evening as she appeared washed-out and weary in Beverly Hills. 

The 26-year-old Mean Girls star headed out to dinner wearing little make-up, a casual cream and black knitted hoodie and a pair of shiny black leggings.

The star took out a cigarette as she made her way across the parking lot in navy blue ballet pumps.  She wore her newly dyed red hair loose down her back and clutched her phone tightly before later returning to her vehicle. 

Lohan and Gaga are reported to have booked a room at exclusive Hollywood venue Chateau Marmont where they last night 'watched old movies and played board games at a slumber party'.

It is also believed fellow Tinseltown starlet Lana Del Rey partied with the girls on their LA date.

Time for a smoke: Lindsay held a cigarette in one hand as she strolled through the parking lot.

Clinging clothes: The star wore a pair of shiny black leggings and a white knitted hoodie.

A source told X17 Online: '[They were] watching old movies and playing board games [at the] slumber party. The three of them had dinner in the garden on Tuesday night at Chateau, and then Lindsay and Gaga ran upstairs to play dress up and came down in different outfits.'

Yesterday, the girls then proceeded to tweet one another about their evening in a series of comical messages, although in a bizarre twist Gaga has now deleted them from her account.

The Born This Way star initially poked fun at the redheaded star for her bizarre diet.

Red alert: Lindsay showed off her long red hair as she returned to her vehicle.

She wrote: '@lindsaylohan when you ordered a cucumber and a knife to the bar last night i thought your were gonna perform a vasectomy #justaskinnyb***h.'

'How much you could do with this arrangement!' Gaga later tweeted Lindsay a picture of a cucumber and lemons at a bar.

A source close to Chris, 23, told HollywoodLife.com exclusively, “Chris is worried. She’s drinking alone in her room and s–t. That’s definitely not a good look for anybody — especially not for her.” Chris reportedly — for the first time in a long time — sent her a text a few days ago and told her to “be good and that he had her back.”

When Chris found out that Rihanna was allegedly drinking alone in her hotel room, the source says, “he was like ‘damn, that ain’t good. I want her to be all right. That’s my girl.’”

Man Keeps wife enslaved in chains for ten years forcing her to give birth twice while shackled and brutally beating her'.

'Horrific': Peter Lizon allegedly tortured his wife and made her kneel in front of him, claims he denies.

The attorney of the husband accused of enslaving his wife for ten years, chaining her up and beating her in a brutal catalogue of abuse has claimed that someone made up the allegations. 

Employees at a rental store said that 43-year-old Stephanie Lizon, from West Virginia, hid from her husband, Peter Lizon, 37, while he returned a rototiller attachment.

She then went to a shelter for domestic violence victims, limping, gaunt, filthy and covered in scars, including a burn scar shaped like a clothing iron, according to police documents.

But Shawn Bayliss, Peter Lizon's attorney, said the allegations are 'the fabrication of a fertile imagination or a feeble mind, one of the two'.

'The alleged victim didn't make these accusations. It was a third party,' Mr Bayliss said. 'Stephanie would say this story is absolutely untrue, and the charges levied against her husband are blatantly false.'He said today that he was in contact with Stephanie Lizon but did not immediately make her available for an interview.

The details of the alleged abuse came out after Stephanie fled from the couple's Leroy home on July 2 in Parkersburg, which is about 50 miles north, along Interstate 77. 

She entered another part of the building while her husband was inside Bosley Rental & Supply and told the staff: 'I'm trying to get away from my husband. I just need to hide for a few minutes.'

The employee declined to give her name, citing concern for her safety and that of her co-workers at the rental shop. In an office, the wife 'seemed pretty calm but kept looking out the window to see if he was looking for her,' the employee said.

Mrs Lizon told the staff she didn't want to involve police, but she accepted the number for the domestic violence shelter and called it, the store employee said. 

'This is a situation where a person has taken a nugget of information, taken an acorn and tried to turn it into a tree. And the tree won't support this story'

She also called family to ask for money, and the employees gave her cash and called a cab to take her to a Western Union office and the shelter.

The woman was limping and had appeared to have some sort of injury, the store employee said. And while her clothing was clean, she smelled bad. 

The employee also told investigators that the victim's fingers looked crooked, and that Lizon's wife had told her her husband had broken her fingers.

The husband did not come inside looking for his wife and police didn't come until several days later, the employee said.

Lizon's wife escaped the house of horrors on July 2 and hid in a Zumba dance facility while her husband was running an errand.

At the shelter, however, Mrs Lizon told another woman about the abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of her husband, a native of the Czech Republic, according to the criminal complaint. 

The wife said her family was from Alexandria, Virginia.

Stephanie Lizon's father declined to discuss the case when contacted by the AP. Relatives of her husband didn't immediately return messages.

Investigators said they have 45 photographs showing burns on her back and breasts from irons and frying pans, and scars on her wrists and ankles. 

Now her husband is in jail and authorities are investigating what Jackson County Chief Sheriff's Deputy Tony Boggs called one of the most terrible cases he's seen.

'This appears to go beyond abuse to what I would consider torture,' he said Wednesday.

The criminal complaint said a witness at the Parkersburg shelter provided the following account:

She described Mrs Lizon as 'gaunt and filthy' and covered in scars, bruises and burns. She had 'mutilated and swollen' feet, a scar in the shape of a clothes iron on one breast, and burns on her back that the victim said came from a hot frying pan.

She said her husband had smashed her foot with a piece of farm equipment, among other things.

The wife said she was called a 'slave' and ordered to kneel before her husband every time she entered a room. 

The wife also said she had delivered a fully developed, stillborn child while in shackles, and her husband buried the corpse on their farm.

Another child survived a similar delivery, but Mrs Lizon said the child had never received medical attention.

She had scar tissue on her hands and ankles, which police believe is from chains tearing into her flesh.

Boggs of the sheriff's office said state child-welfare authorities have been notified, but Peter Lizon's attorney said the child — a one-year-old boy — remains with his mother.

The complaint says investigators confirmed that the wife was treated in the emergency room of St Joseph's Hospital in June and that photographs were taken at the shelter to document her injuries. 

A Sunbeam iron was among the items seized during a July 5 search of the couple's home. Lizon was arrested that day.

But Mr Bayliss compared the charges to the childhood game of 'telephone', where something whispered from one person to another ultimately bears no resemblance to reality.

'This is a situation where a person has taken a nugget of information, taken an acorn and tried to turn it into a tree,' he said. 'And the tree won't support this story.'

Back in Leroy, only a handful of houses dot the side of the approximately two-mile road where the couple lives. In the front yard, signs read 'No Trespassing' and 'Guard Dog on Duty', although no dog could be seen.

'Mutilated': The Czechoslovakian allegedly ran over his wife's feet with a tractor and delivered the couple's baby himself while she remained chained up.

One of two brightly colored barrels was filled with dozens of empty bottles of imported beer near a black van with no license plate. Nobody answered the door at a neighbor's home. Nearby, screen doors were open and music could be heard coming from inside.

Cliff Boggess, 62, has lived in the area since 2005 and rode his all-terrain vehicle past the home Wednesday evening. He said he was shocked by the news and said he's never noticed any human activity at the house. 'Nothing. And I guarantee, that's the same answer you'll get from everybody around here,' Boggess said. 'This guy, whoever he (is), I've never seen him.'

Both Peter and Stephanie Lizon were arrested in Maryland in 2004 and later performed community service for cutting up Bush-Cheney campaign signs with a bayonet. 

Court records also show that Mrs Lizon was arrested on drug charges a few months later in Baltimore County. She pleaded guilty and got probation.

The West Virginia Division of Corrections said it had no history of criminal actions by either spouse, and Boggs said the sheriff's department had no previous contact with them, either.

Lizon is being held in the South Central Regional Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail.

Jackson County Deputy Sheriff Tony Boggs said: 'This is a case that is tenfold of what our average domestic is and maybe more than that. It comes down to what appears to be slavery and torture.

'It's amazing what one human being can do to another, and that should not ever happen or be allowed to happen.'

70-year-old woman tortured to death over alleged witchcraft

A 70-year-old woman in Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Mrs. Rebecca Adewumi, has allegedly been tortured to death by some youths in the town over alleged witchcraft.

A daughter of the deceased, Mrs. Grace Smith, who is based in Lagos State, told journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday that her mother was stripped naked and forced to drink some concoction believed to have the potency to exorcise her.

Smith said her mother was tortured in the presence of one of the town’s chiefs on June 26.

She added that her mother was beaten, placed on woods while her head was shaved. She was later said to have been locked up in a room where she eventually died on June 30.

Smith said the deceased’s relatives, including her children were prevented from rescuing her.

However, the deceased’s elder sister, a 74 -year-old woman, Mrs. Deborah Ajijedidun, who was deaf and dumb was said to have been allowed to see her sister’s corpse.

Smith, amid sobs, said her mother’s corpse was left in the room for three days before it was taken to an unknown place.Smith said her mother’s ordeal started when her (deceased) stepson, Ola, took ill and the boy’s mother accused her of being responsible for the sickness.

She said, “My mother was accused of being a witch and she was said to be responsible for Ola’s sickness but they could not substantiate their claim. They dragged her to the oba’s palace and humiliated her there. At the palace, my mother was stripped naked. The Olomuo of Omuo, Oba Noah Omonigbehin, some chiefs and residents of the town were present.

“She was forced to drink concoction believed to have the power to make her confess her alleged witchcraft. Although she didn’t die at the expiration of the seven days given to her, her attackers who were not satisfied with this went to her house dragged her outside and flogged her.

“ Her children and relatives were prevented from taking her away and the attackers mostly youths of the town known as Imekunla locked her up in her room. Three days after she died following the torture, those who killed her are saying that nothing can be done to them.”

Smith said a petition had been sent to the police to ensure that justice was done.

When contacted on the telephone, the monarch said, “This is not a matter to be discussed on the telephone. You and the person who gave you the petition should come to my palace.”

When subsequent calls were put across to the monarch to know the time to visit him, his phone rang out.A well placed indigene of the town told journalists that some chiefs would address a press conference on the matter on Friday (today).

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, when contacted, told journalists that the petition was brought to the command by relatives of the deceased.

He said that the DPO in Omuo was instructed to go and remove the corpse from the house. 

Wakama said although an autopsy had been carried out on the deceased in a private hospital, the police would not rely on that.Wakama said the police sent an ambulance to evacuate the corpse from the hospital to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital where a fresh autopsy would be carried out.

The DPO said nobody had been arrested in connection with the case because no eyewitness had come forward to accuse anybody of any wrongdoing.

Stevie Wonder's cousin and girlfriend accused of trying to blackmail singer for millions of dollars...

It certainly isn't happy families for Stevie Wonder. 

The superstar's cousin is set to stand trail on an extortion charge after claims he and his girlfriend attempted to blackmail the singer for millions of dollars emerged. 

The pair are accused of threatening to sell a film ranting against the singer's treatment of his family for millions of dollars. 

Superior Court Judge Ray Jurado yesterday ruled that prosecutors had presented enough evidence for a jury to decide whether Alpha L. Walker and his girlfriend Tamara E. Diaz extorted Wonder by threatening to sell it to various media outlets if they weren't paid by the Grammy-winning musician.

The pair has been jailed since May 2, when they were arrested during a sting organized by Wonder's attorney and Los Angeles police. The pair was given a $10,000 down payment on a $500,000 agreement to hand over the film footage and keep its contents confidential.

Attorneys for Walker, who is Wonder's cousin, and Tamara argued that prosecutors hadn't presented enough evidence to support the case. Walker's attorney, Ian Wallach, said his client had made a movie about his own life, was marketing it for sale and his actions were protected by the First Amendment. 

A police detective described the film as an 80-minute rant against Wonder. Portions of it were filmed in the former home of the singer's late mother, which is now dilapidated, and it also shows Wonder's son, who the musician is protective of. Walker, 38, accused the musician of being 'a slumlord' and made derogatory comments about the singer's mother, two witnesses said. 

Walker and Diaz have pleaded not guilty and Wallach has said his client is innocent. 

Wonder did not testify. Throughout the hearing, he was referred to by his real name, Stevland Morris. Many of the accusations were not described in great detail in court Thursday, but a detective testified that Wonder denied them in an interview.

'It was a continuous rant about the injustices that had been done to him - in his opinion - by Mr. Morris and that Mr. Morris was the cause of him having all of these issues in his life,' Los Angeles Police Detective Tracey Benjamin testified. 

Benjamin, who interviewed Wonder for the case, said the singer was hurt by Walker's accusations and said they were untrue. She said Wonder stated that paying his cousin money would be the only way to keep it from being sold to a news outlet and embarrassing him and his family. 

'He explained that when something like this is released to the media, it is presumed to be true,' Benjamin said. 

Wonder's attorney William Briggs II said he watched much of the film but stopped when it showed footage of Wonder's son, who has mental issues that were not described in court. He said Walker initially told him he wanted $5 million for the footage, but later agreed to a $500,000 payment. Briggs said Walker also made claims that Wonder had 'possibly engaged in an incestuous relationship.' 

Walker repeatedly told Briggs that he wasn't intending to extort Wonder and asked for the lawyer's assurances that he wasn't committing a crime. The attorney said a confidentiality agreement he drafted included language that the pair should seek legal advice. 

With more than two dozen officers monitoring the hamburger restaurant where the group held their final meeting, Walker and Diaz signed their initials on the agreement and were quickly arrested. 

Wallach and Diaz's attorney, Alex Sario questioned whether Briggs, who recorded his conversations with the defendants, had worked with police to craft a confidentiality agreement that would prove extortion. Briggs said several of the words included in the document, including 'fear,' `'embarrassing' and 'private' came directly from Wonder, but that he also included language given to jurors deciding extortion cases. 

Briggs said he wanted to see if Walker and Diaz, who was arrested with a list of things she hoped to do with the money they received, would carry out their plan. 

If they did, he said, I wanted them to admit the damage they were doing.' 

Walker and Diaz, both 38, return to court on July 26 for an arraignment hearing.

The woman, who hails from Oregon, is suing Bieber, his label Island Def Jam Records, the concert promoter and the arena for a whopping $9.23million in damages.

Betts claims in the lawsuit, published by TMZ: ‘I was injured by a sound blast that exceeded safe decibel levels. I suffer hearing loss, tinnitus and hyperacusis in both ears.’

He ‘then enticed the crowd into a frenzy of screams by continuously waving his arms in a quick and upward motion.’She also claims: ‘The gondola that Justin Bieber was suspended in acted as a sound conductor creating a sound blast that permanently damaged both of my ears.’

Betts states that the tinnitus creates a ‘loud high pitched, whooshing, pulsating sound’ and claims that this results in ‘anxiety, loss of sleep, and depression.’

More than she bargained for: The woman in question attended the star's July 2010 Oregon concert.

Earlier this month Justin was slapped with a speeding ticket for driving at 80mph on the way to a music video shoot.And it’s not the only recent brush with the law for the 18-year-old singer.

A former Scientology chief has sensationally claimed the church brainwashed Tom Cruise’s children and turned them against the star’s ex-wife Nicole Kidman.

Marty Rathbun, who worked at the secretive church for 27 years before leaving in 2004, said he believed officials used Scientology doctrine to turn the Oscar winner’s adopted children against her after she divorced Cruise in 2001.

His comments could shed more light on Scientology - and just why Katie Holmes was so keen to win sole custody of her young daughter as she filed for divorce from Cruise recently.

Mr Rathbun claimed that he had counselled A list star Cruise, 50, in countless sessions that the church refers to as ‘auditing’ at the Scientology celebrity center in California.

Mission Impossible star Cruise has two children that he adopted with Miss Kidman, daughter Isabella, now 19, and son Connor, now 17. And when the children were with the father they were left in the grip of Scientology staff, according to Mr Rathbun.

Insider: Marty Rathbun worked at the secretive church for 27 years before leaving in 2004

Mr Rathbun told NBC’s Rock Center with Brian Williams: ‘...they were being indoctrinated, and they were reporting to Tom on how that was going in my presence.

He claimed that church officials told Isabella, then nine, and Connor, then six, that their mother was a ‘suppressive person’, which the church’s website, , defines as ‘a person who seeks to suppress other people in their vicinity.’

He said: ‘It was more than implied....[Kidman] was somebody that they shouldn’t open up with, they shouldn’t communicate with, and they shouldn’t spend much time with,’

The Scientology website reads: ‘A suppressive Person will goof up or vilify any effort to help anybody and particularly knife with violence anything calculated to make human beings more powerful or more intelligent.

‘The ‘suppressive person’ is also known as the ‘anti-social personality’. Within this category you would find ‘Napoleon, Hitler, the unrepentant killer and the drug lord,’ according to the website.

Mr Rathbun also insisted that the Church of Scientology closely monitors the communication of high profile members and orders members to sever ties with suppressive people, particularly those who are critical of the church.

He said: ‘That person could be your son, it could be your daughter, it could be your father, it could be your mother. It doesn’t matter.’

Speaking about the Cruise children, he said: ‘They were being steered toward and indoctrinated toward coming to the conclusion that Nicole was a suppressive person.

In 2007, Miss Kidman admitted: ‘My kids don’t call me mummy,’ as she said they referred to her as Nicole - while Miss Holmes said the children had started calling her mum.

Mr Rathbun's comments could shed more light on Scientology - and just why Katie Holmes was so keen to win sole custody of her young daughter as she filed for divorce from Cruise recently.

In the centre: The controversial religion has played a huge part in the couple's split.

The actress went on to have two young daughters with her second husband, singer Keith Urban, but still maintains a relationship with her adopted children, as Isabella said in May: ‘I love mom. She’s my mom. She’s great. I see her sometimes and I speak to her.”

Miss Holmes, 33, and Cruise this week agreed to the terms of a deal of a divorce whereby their six-year-old daughter Suri will live with her mother in New York.

In a thinly veiled comment on Scientology, the couple released a shared statement that read: ‘We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents.’Miss Kidman’s publicist did not comment.

While Cruise’s spokesman Bert Fields told the NBC show that Mr Rathbun was not a reliable source, calling him ‘A bitter ex-Scientologist who spends most of his time attacking Scientology and using Tom Cruise’s name to get attention for his bigoted diatribe. If he “audited” Mr Cruise, he is violating the privilege of that position by discussing it.’

In a letter to NBC News, Gary Soter, a lawyer for the Church of Scientology, wrote that Mr Rathbun was an unreliable source and a liar. Mr Soter described Mr Rathbun as ‘a defrocked ex-communicated apostate.’ 

When asked about the allegations against him, Mr Rathbun replied: ‘Then why was I assigned by the Chairman of the Board to audit Tom Cruise during the last four years of my involvement at the Church of Scientology?’

The family of Usher's stepson today asked for prayers as they keep a bedside vigil following a tragic jet ski accident .Kyle Glover, the 11-year-old child of Usher's ex-wife Tameka Foster, was struck in the head while in the collision while riding an inner tube on Lake Lanier in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday.

The boy 'has not experienced any brain activity' since he was admitted to hospital, according to TMZ, and a decision has yet to be made whether to take him off life support.

His family said in a statement to CNN: 'We know God's in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time.

He told ABC News earlier this week: 'I don't know what's going to happen with the 11-year-old. We're going to have to see what his condition is going to be before we present findings of the case.'

Kyle was with an unidentified 15-year-old girl at the time and both children were airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.A friend of the family, 38-year-old Jeffrey S. Hubbard, was allegedly operating the jet ski at the time of the collision. 

Sgt Mike said: 'A pontoon was pulling the two adolescents on an inner tube, and the personal water craft went over the top of them.'

He added about the driver: 'He was interviewed, and it's possible he may be reinterviewed.'

Circumcision ban in Germany 'worst attack on Jews since Holocaust' ...

President of the Conference of European Rabbis, Pinchas Goldschmidt (right), has furiously condemned the decision by a German court to ban circumcision.

A German court's ban on circumcising baby boys has provoked a rare show of unity between Jews, Muslims and Christians who see it as a threat to religious freedom.

Doctors have also warned it could increase health risks by forcing the practice underground.

European rabbis meeting in Berlin yesterday promised to defy the ruling by a court in the city of Cologne last month. They plan further talks with Muslim and Christian leaders in Stuttgart next week to see how they can fight the ban together.

'We urge the Jewish community in Germany and circumcisers to continue to perform circumcisions and not to wait for a change in the law,' said the chief rabbi of Moscow Pinchas Goldschmidt. Goldschmidt said outlawing circumcision was the 'worst attack on Jews since the Holocaust.' He demanded that Angela Merkel's government intervened to guarantee their religious rights.

He added that the the ban is a new example of creeping prejudice in European law against non-Christians, after a Swiss ban on minarets, French and Belgian bans on Islamic veils in public, and an attempted Dutch ban on halal meat.

The Cologne court took action after police were alerted by a doctor who treated a Muslim boy for bleeding after he underwent circumcision. It emphasised it did not ban circumcision, but wanted families to wait until their sons were older. So far the ban applies only to the area of the Cologne court's jurisdiction.

In a country that is sensitive to charges of intolerance and discrimination, especially against Jews because of the Holocaust perpetrated by the Nazis during World War Two, many politicians including the foreign minister have criticised the ruling.

Germany is home to about 120,000 Jews and 4 million Muslims. Many of the latter are originally from Turkey, which also condemned last month's court ruling.

The rabbis have lobbied members of the German and European parliaments to push for legislation that would stop the ban from being copied by other parts of Germany and Europe. This could be done via a law to exempt religious minorities, similar to that which permits the religious preparation of kosher and halal meat.

Jewish and Muslim religious leaders met European Parliament officials in Brussels this week to complain about what they called 'an affront to our basic religious and human rights'.

The 40 rabbis attending the Berlin conference decided to gather Jewish circumcisers in Germany into one association to further guarantee safety standards in the operation.'Jewish families having babies now don't know how to behave because they are afraid. Circumcisers continuously call us to ask whether they can perform circumcisions or not. Things cannot continue like this,' said German rabbi Avichai Apel.

The head of the German Medical Association, Frank Ulrich Montgomery, said the ban meant there was 'an increased risk of this task being performed by lay people which, because of poor hygiene conditions, could lead to serious complications'.But Montgomery said he sadly had to advise his colleagues to refrain from performing the operation until the legal situation had been clarified, 'otherwise they could face prosecution'.

The World Health Organisation cites research showing that male circumcision can reduce the risk of AIDS, and 44 members of parliament in Zimbabwe underwent circumcision in June to promote awareness of HIV/AIDS.Germany's ambassador to Israel has assured lawmakers there that Berlin will try to resolve the problem quickly, while the justice minister has advised the Jewish and Muslim communities to seek redress via Germany's Constitutional Court.

'I see that within a democracy there are different bodies taking part in the lawmaking process but from our point of view, the deadline is not tomorrow but yesterday,' responded Rabbi Goldschmidt. He warned that many of Germany's Jewish community, which has grown from just 3,000 in 1945 following the Holocaust, could end up emigrating if Germany cannot ensure full religious freedom.

TV presenter abducted in Lagos

A popular television presenter, Alhaji Razaq Gawat, has been abducted in Lagos, PUNCH Metro learnt on Thursday.

Gawat, who is the anchorman of an Islamic TV programme during, E didè e ji sari, which is broadcast on Nigerian Television Authority Channel 10, was reportedly abducted around Apongbon end of Eko Bridge, Lagos Island on Tuesday.

One of Gawat’s friends, who craved anonymity, told our correspondent that the victim’s car was found but no contact had been made with his family. He, however, noted that the incident could still not be referred to as kidnap.

He added that the matter had been reported at the Adeniji Adele Police Division, which is very close to the victim’s residence.

The Police Public Relations Officer, in the state, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone, adding that the police had commenced investigations into the matter.

She however said the matter was being treated as a case of missing person and not kidnap or abduction since no one had contacted the family.

She said, “The Divisional Police Officer Adeniji Adele said the wife of the victim came to the station around 10am on Wednesday and reported that Gawat was missing. She said she spoke to him around 5pm on Tuesday and he said he was on his way to Ikeja for a meeting.

“She said she continued to call his phones when he did not arrive but his phones were switched off. Gawat’s vehicle was found at Apongbon end of Eko Bridge that same night and was recovered by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officials.

“Investigations have commenced into the matter and the police are working very hard to ensure that he is found. He is still presumed missing and not kidnapped.”

Jonathan’s wife appointment as perm sec shocking – NBA

Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin branch, Mr. Rafiu Balogu, and leader of Committee of Muslim Organisations, Kwara State, Prof. Shehu Jimoh, on Thursday in Ilorin, described the appointment of the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan as one of the 17 new Permanent Secretaries in Bayelsa State civil service as surprising and shocking.
Balogun, in an interview with our correspondent on Thursday said the appointment was surprising and puzzling.


He said the President’s wife could not have merited the appointment as the office of permanent secretary was not a political appointment but career based.
He also alleged that such an appointment indicated that the Presidency was condoning corruption.


“I was flabbergasted and puzzled when I heard it. I do not know what this country is turning to if that is the truth. I do not know what could have informed that decision, for the First Lady now to become a permanent secretary. How did they come about it? It is so incongruous and quite uncalled for. It is ridiculous.
“She could not have attained that position. She will be there doing nothing, just being redundant. It is not a political office.”


Also Jimoh said the appointment was surprising. He said it was puzzling how the wife of Nigeria’s President become a permanent secretary.
Meanwhile, Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the appointment had unsettled the various ministries in the Bayelsa State as many employees in the civil service were shocked at the development.


The Congress for Progressive Change described the appointment as a huge, cynical joke, lamenting that the administration of Jonathan had been turned into a theatre of humour.

Crashed Dana Plane’s Black Box Burnt

Nigerians may never know why Dana flight 992 crashed in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, on 3 June, killing more than 150 people on board and others on the ground, as the Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, yesterday, disclosed in its preliminary report that the Flight Data Recorder, FDR, was damaged and no data could be recovered from it during analysis in the United States.

AIB said only the Cockpit Voice Recorder, CVR, which contained a 31-minute conversation between the pilot and co-pilot was successfully analysed.

“The solid state based memory in the CVR was in good condition and retained 31 minutes of audio information. The digital tape based memory in the FDR succumbed to the post crash fire and melted, consequently no data could be recovered,” said Captain Muhtar Usman, AIB Commissioner, who released the report.

The inability to recover data in the FDR means that the families of the victims of the ill-fated plane may never know what caused both engines to pack up almost simultaneously.

P.M.NEWS learnt that a Flight Data Recorder, FDR, also known as an Accident Data Recorder, ADR, is an electronic device employed to record any instructions sent to any electronic systems on an aircraft.

Due to its importance in investigating accidents, the ICAO-regulated device is carefully engineered and stoutly constructed to withstand the force of a high speed impact and the heat of an intense fire.

Many are likely to wonder why the FDR, which is usually located in the tail of the aircraft was damaged when the tail of the Dana plane 5N-RAM survived the crash, said Mr. Kola Oni, a resident in Ketu, Lagos.

P.M.NEWS checks revealed that the exterior of the FDR is coated with heat-resistant bright orange paint for high visibility in wreckage, and the unit is usually mounted in the aircraft’s empennage (tail section), where it is more likely to survive a severe crash.

The analysis of the recorded parameters can often detect and identify causes or contributing factors to an air accident.

Following the 3 June Dana plane crash in Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, the Cockpit Voice Recorder, CVR, and the Flight Data Recorder, FDR, were found and sent to the US’ National Transportation Safety Board, NTSB, for analysis.

The report said that the Dana plane crashed because it lost both engines.

The report did not say why the two engines packed up almost at the same time but ruled out insinuations that fuel might have been contaminated.

AIB disclosed that the MD-83 took off from Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, at 2.48 pm and crashed at about 3.45 p.m. just minutes to runway.

Tanker fire kills 200

“Tanker exploded. The explosion sounded like an earthquake. Many of them could not come out alive,” a panic-stricken survivor of a petrol tanker fire that killed over 200 at the outskirts of Okogbe community, Rivers State, on Thursday narrated to The PUNCH.

The survivor, whose car was one of the vehicles involved in the accident that led to the falling of the tanker, only lived to tell the story by abandoning his car and running for dear life shortly before the tanker exploded.

Most of the dead victims were reported to be part of the crowd that gathered to scoop fuel at the spot of the fallen fuel-laden tanker on the East-West Road.

The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, who was at the scene of the incident, said, “The corpses that I counted alone were over 200 and they have not finished counting. It is cremation; some were burnt to ashes.

“So how many can you count? It is a sad situation. We heard that about 50 injured victims had been taken to the hospital, but it is too early to say the exact figure.”

The commissioner, who also visited Ahoada General Hospital to see the injured victims, lamented that those admitted at the hospital suffered 75 per cent degrees of burns upwards.

The Rivers State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Dr. Kayode Olagunju, however told one of our correspondents on the phone that only 95 persons died in the incident.

Olagunju said, “There is a major fatal crash at Okogbe about 11 kilometres from Ahaoda-Mbiama on the East-West Road in Rivers State.

“The accident occurred around 6.30am. A tanker laden with petrol crashed with three other vehicles; a Toyota Corolla, Hummer bus and a Mitsubishi bus were involved. Thirty-four motorcycles also got burnt.

“People were scooping fuel from the fallen tanker when it (tanker) exploded. Ninety-three persons died on the spot, two died in the hospital while 18 persons were injured.”

Residents of the area however put the figure at well above 200, made up mainly of women and children.

“They came in five, 20, 50, and in their hundreds, they flooded the place. I tried to stop them but they did not listen to me. At that time the drivers of the tanker and the bus were quarrelling with each other. But the bus driver later ran away,” the lucky survivor narrated further. He refused to give his name.

Baldness drug Wayne Rooney took 'could cause permanent impotence and shrink genitals in some men'

Concern: Men worried about losing their hair may consider treatments such as Propecia. However in the UK the drug label warns about possible 'persistent' sexual side effects.

A hair-loss medication reportedly tried by Wayne Rooney may cause prolonged and possibly irreversible impotence, scientists have claimed.

The recent findings come after one patient bravely stepped forward to reveal the drug left him with no sex drive and even shrank his genitals.

Kevin Malley, 30, was prescribed with the drug Propecia after he worried he could be losing his hair. He said he only planned to take the pill for a year.

However, just five months after he started taking it in May 2011 he found he was completely impotent and his testes also became smaller.

Worried, he consulted his doctor and was told the symptoms would disappear after he stopped taking the drug. But he says a year on and nothing has changed.

It will come as no surprise to Dr Michael Irwig from the University of Washington.

He recently published a study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, that found the ingredient finasteride, which is found in Propecia, can cause persistent sexual dysfunction, including low sexual desire, erectile dysfunction and problems with orgasms.

The male pattern baldness drug is manufactured by Merck and was approved by the FDA in 1997.

While labeling on the medication in the U.S. currently warns about possible reversible sexual side effects, there is no reference to the effects being persistent, Dr Irwig said.

However, other countries including the UK and Sweden do require medical companies to include the 'persistent risk' warning on the labeling.

It was reported that Wayne Rooney started taking the medication in 2009 after he became sick of other footballer's jibes about his receding hairline. He has since had a hair transplant.

Dr Irwig first became aware of the problems caused by finasteride several years ago when he encountered several men who reported they had developed sexual dysfunction while taking the medication.

'It’s been very frustrating for a lot of these men because they’ve sought care from medical professionals who have looked at the literature and have not seen a risk of persistent sexual dysfunction,' says Dr Irwig.

'So a lot of these patients have been told to see psychiatrists and psychologists and that it’s all in their head.'

Dr Irwig then noticed that men had reported sexual dysfunction for months even after they stopped taking the medication.

'I came across a website called propeciahelp.com with more than 1,400 registered users - many young healthy men who developed the same sexual side effects from finasteride - and I discovered that nobody had published a series looking at these men - who they are, how long the sexual side effects lasted, what types.'

Dr Irwig’s study included results from interviews with 71 men aged 21 to 46 years old to assess how long they took finasteride, the type and duration of sexual side effects and their sexual frequency before and after the medication.

Dr Irwig discovered that 94 per cent developed low libido, 92 per cent developed erectile dysfunction and decreased arousal, and 69 per cent developed problems with orgasm. 

On average, the men used finasteride for approximately 28 months but experienced persistent sexual side effects for an average of 40 months, from the time they ceased taking the medication to the time of the interview.

Dr Irwig also found that the average number of sexual episodes per month dropped after finasteride use.

'It turns out that almost all the men had multiple sexual function problems,' says Dr Irwig.

'Before finasteride use, the men experienced average sexual activity of approximately 26 episodes per month, but after use, it came down to approximately eight per month - an almost two-thirds reduction.

'Twenty per cent of patients I interviewed experienced persistent sexual dysfunction for more than five years, which makes me wonder if their persistent sexual dysfunction is permanent,' he adds.

Controversial: Merck says no evidence has proved a causal relationship between Propecia and long-lasting sexual dysfunction.

This was certainly Mr Malley's experience. He told Good Morning America: 'I kept expecting the side effects to go away, but they did not, they only got worse.'

Mr Malley said before he took the drug he was engaged and worked as a public health researcher at a university in Las Vegas.

After he developed symptoms his fiancee broke off the engagement and he said he had to resign from his job because of cognitive problems. He said he is angry no one warned him the drug could have such lasting effects.

'Even if the side effects are rare, that doesn't mean that I should not have been warned. I did have a life before this,' he told Good Morning America.

Dr Irwig said roughly 5 per cent of men who take medicine will experience sexual dysfunction, and of those 'it’s hard to tell how many will experience persistent symptoms'.

'We know that this is a potential problem, but we can’t quantify what the exact risk is. I can’t tell a man if he has a 1-in-100 chance, or a 1-in-1000 chance of developing persistent sexual dysfunction, but it’s pretty clear there’s a relationship here,' he says.

Topical Rogaine can be used as an alternative to Propecia - applied directly on the skin, it does not get absorbed by body and thus does not cause sexual side effects - but Dr. Irwig says Propecia is very effective in treating hair loss and thus is commonly prescribed.

So Dr Irwig says it is crucial physicians treating male pattern hair loss discuss the possibility of persistent sexual side effects associated with finasteride with their patients.

'I think it’s very important that doctors who are prescribing this medicine talk about potential risks, so men can make an informed decision,' he said.

In a statement, Merck said no evidence has proved a causal relationship between Propecia and long-lasting sexual dysfunction. 

A spokesman said: 'Merck believes that PROPECIA (finasteride) has demonstrated safety and efficacy profiles and that the product labeling appropriately describes the benefits and risks of the drug to help inform prescribing. 

'A causal relationship between the use of PROPECIA and continued sexual dysfunction after discontinuation of treatment has not been established. We encourage patients to talk with their doctor if they have any questions or concerns about their health, or about PROPECIA.'

College Student Kills Self Because He Blushes Too Much?

A mother and father have spoken of their devastation at the suicide of their 20-year-old son, who killed himself after silently suffering with uncontrollable blushing for years.

Brandon Thomas, a University of Washington student, jumped from the 11th floor of his Seattle dorm on May 29 - and left a five-page letter blaming the suicide on his despair caused by the disorder.

'I am tired of blushing,' Brandon, from nearby Renton, wrote. 'It is exhausting to wake up every day and have to find little ways to avoid blushing situations.'

Since the age of 15, he had suffered from chronic blushing, an uncontrollable reaction triggered by an overactive nervous system that affects between five and seven per cent of the population.

Grief: Steve and Dawn Thomas have been left devastated by the suicide of their 20-year-old son Brandon (pictured) who was plagued by chronic blushing since he was 15 years old.

His parents, Steve and Dawn, and twin brother, Devin, are now speaking out about the little-known affliction which humiliated their son and brought on what they called 'a secret life of torment'. They told Msnbc.com that their son would blush in class, on the phone, while driving or when he thought about blushing earlier in the day. They added that he would take the stairs rather than the lift from the 11th floor in his dorm to avoid seeing anyone he knew inside the lift's close confines, which he knew would make him blush.

'I’ve had people come up to me, even at his service, and say "I know, I blush, too, when I’m in public", his mother said. 'That is not what this is about.'

Struggle: Brandon, pictured with a friend and his twin brother Devin, left, would blush uncontrollably even if he was not aware of it. He would avoid social situations in fear that it would happen.

The world's expert on the condition, Dr. Enrique Jadresic, a Chilean psychiatrist who suffered from it himself, said some people are unable to control their blushing and the associated shame.

WHAT IS CHRONIC BLUSHING?

Brandon suffered from chronic blushing, which experts believe affects five to seven per cent of the population.

Blushing occurs when brain signals blood vessels in the face to widen to allow more blood to flow through - an involuntary action brought on by emotions such as embarrassment or anger. It is also has other triggers, such as hot food or alcohol.

But for chronic blushers, there is often no trigger and it can occur at any time. It begins around puberty in people with an increased sympathetic nervous system.

It can be treated with hypnosis, therapy and anti-anxiety drugs, such as beta blockers. There is also a controversial surgery that cuts the nerve in the torso that controls flushing, but this only has 50 per cent success.

'Blushing, which presumably is a minor symptom, can 

erode not only self-esteem, but also the will and desire to live,' he wrote in his book, When Blushing Hurts.

She went on: 'The biggest thing for him and the biggest thing for all the people who suffer with chronic blushing is the shame. People do think of it as trivial because we all blush.'

Outgoing: Friends said they were shocked by the suicide as, despite his secret battle, Brandon was active and popular at school and university.

Pain: He called his parents in tears about the blushing but by the time they sought help, it was too late.




She added that he often was entirely unaware that he was blushing, and when people pointed it out, he became even more self conscious. In turn, this led to a fear of blushing, called erythrophobia.'Since it’s visible and uncontrollable and frequent, you are always on the alert. You dread blushing or the possibility of it happening,' Jadresic explained.


For Brandon, the fear and shame became too much. Despite seeking medical help with his parents and plans to visits experts this summer, he took his life in May.
'He was so hopeless by the time [he told us],' his mother said. 'He believed in his mind that he was never going to have a successful career, and that he would never have a successful relationship because of this.'

Scene: He was found dead on the grounds of his hall of residence at the University of Washington, Seattle after jumping from the 11th floor on May 29 this year.


Despite his shame for his condition in his lifetime, in his suicide note, he asked his parents to spread awareness of it.'One of the reasons he took his life is that if he took this drastic measure, it would raise awareness,' Dawn Thomas said. 'He wanted his death to have an impact.'

My Thoughts: I couldn't agree more with this deep but honest analysis culled from PM News Nigeria.

Many of the new generation churches have brought some untoward or unfavourable cheering circumventive and lopesided doctrines to Christendom again. They prefer to pursue their devilish interest blindly to the detriment of biblical injunctions which are paths of faith and righteousness. They have greatly derailed from the simple tenets of Christianity which Jesus Christ himself teaches, but which they now turn upside down to suit their egotism.

The sin of adultery is one of the sins abhorred mostly by God, and it is this same sin that has turned many Christian brothers and sisters into whoredom-ship, and which they now continue to revel in relentlessly. Because of money, they indulge themselves in exotic amorous sexual orgies with their daughters, wives, both legal and secret ones for money rituals and quick riches. But the funniest aspect of this barefaced debauchery is that mostly, the Christian leaders and professed authorities in Bible knowledge are the guilty ones.

As the Bible confirms, they like to teach the congregations the right things but do the opposite of whatever they teach. The love of money which leads them to corruption is the god they worship. In some churches, skulls of human beings are found in their sacred rooms. The foundation of some of their churches are constructed with charms, while in others cows and human beings are buried alive at the center of these churches, as spiritual means of attracting many worshippers to them. Many of the churches have been turned to miracle centers, where miracle seekers flock to always for help on either to get rich quickly, win contracts, running to millions of naira, double promotions at work places, abundant blessings from whatever types of trades or businesses, or to get freedom from the bondage of strange ailments. Most of these churches are acclaimed solution givers to all human problems.

However, let us limit ourselves to divorce problems, which is now the vogue among some of the church overseers and brothers in Christendom, worldwide. We may even limit our searchlight to the household of whore-mongers, and adulterers as epitomized by the Household of God. Some of these Christian leaders have consigned themselves to the dictates of the flesh than that of Holy Spirit.

Senate confirms Nigeria’s first female Chief Justice

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Nigeria’s first female Chief Justice, Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar.

Confirming the appointment of Justice Mukhtar after a screening session, Senate President David Mark said it was the hope of the Senate that the new Chief Justice would be able to “improve the public perception of the judiciary and also to ensure that there is steady dispensation of justice.”

“We can only pray that Justice Mukhtar will improve on the condition in which she found the judiciary at the moment. We will work together with the judiciary and the executive arm of government to ensure that there is justice, equity, and fairness and there is progress and discipline in the country.”

Justice Mukhtar had during the screening promised to reposition the judiciary and deal with the “bad eggs giving the judiciary a negative image” in order to regain the trust of Nigerians.

Group to declare Biafra republic in November..

My Thoughts:  Do we need this at this time or even ever? With more pressing and more important issues (Boko Haram / Nigeria's security) at the top end of the priority list of most Nigerians?

A pro-Biafra group, Biafra Zionist Movement, BZM, announced, on Tuesday, that it had commenced the process to launch the struggle for a State of Biafra with the international community, saying that the formal declaration of the new Biafra Republic had been slated for November 5.

This came as Conference of Igbo Youth Organizations, CIYO, warned that Ndigbo “would no longer watch in silence while our brothers and sisters are slaughtered like animals” in the Northern States.

National President of BZM, Benjamin Onwuka, at a briefing said what prevented the realization of Biafra republic over the years was the inability to get the support of world powers, like the United States of America to back the project.

He expressed regrets that the international community did not know the aspirations of the Biafra people, saying “Biafra must therefore be internationalized because the forces preventing the dreams for our independence are vested in the United Kingdom.

Biafra can only be achieved when we secure the support of the United States of America; the day USA comes to our side, that day we shall be free from Nigeria; the story of South Sudan where a bloody civil war was fought for over 24 years is a typical example.”

Meanwhile, the Igbo youths in a statement endorsed by 10 youth leaders, including the National Coordinator, Igbo Youth Grand Alliance, Uchenna Uchehara, who read it after their emergency meeting in Owerri yesterday said: “Events of the past few months in Nigeria have become very disturbing to stakeholders, especially the Igbo nation that played a major role in the founding of Nigeria and inspite of the tragedies of the Biafran war, resolved to give total support to one united Nigeria”.
