Hello Friends!

The Muslim community in Isara-Remo, Ogun State, is currently embroiled in a leadership tussle between two men, who are laying claim to the position of the town’s Chief Imam.

One of the men, Alhaji Tajudeen Hamzat, alleged that the Divisional Police Officer of Isara-Remo, Mr. Musa Bashir, had gone against judicial process to install his opponent, Alhaji Saliu Sanni, as the head of the congregation.

In a petition sent to the acting Inspector-General of Police, state Commissioner of Police and the DPO, Hamzat stated that Sanni had gone against court decision by holding a Jumat service in the central mosque of the community, which had been under lock and key since the problem started.
In the petition, Hamzat’s lawyer, Mr. Bayo Alade, stated that his client was duly turbaned on August 23, 2001, by the Muslim community but Sanni was turbaned the following day by two individuals: Alhaji Busari Alatunse and Alimi Bakare, who are now late.

It stated, “Our client had approached the High Court of Sagamu vide suit number NCS/167/2001 to enforce his claim as the rightful holder of the office of Chief Imam of Isara-Remo, and nullify the installation of Sanni.

“In December 6, 2006, the court delivered judgment on the case and Hamzat was declared the substantive Chief Imam.”
