A man, Ime Titus, has been brought before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly raping and killing his 19-year-old in-law.
Titus, 29, was said to have on March 11, 2012, at Ilamija Village Farm, Epe, had “carnal knowledge” of the girl, Blessing Monday (19), without her consent.
The charge sheet stated that after Titus hit the victim with a piece of wood in the head, he proceeded to rape her.
It stated, “That you, Titus, on the said date, time and place killed Monday by hitting her with a wood in the head and thereby committed an offence punishable under the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State 2011.”
The offences were said to have contravened sections 258 and 221 of the state’s criminal code.
The alleged crime was said to have taken place on the farm of the victim’s father.
According to the police, Titus’ uncle is married to Monday’s elder sister.
Magistrate S. K. Matepo ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody and referred the case to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for advice.
The case was adjourned till May 24 for the DPP’s advice.
