Barca/Chelsea Clash: Boko Haram Bombs Viewing Centre, Kills 6, Injures 9 In Jos

Hello Friends!

Separate bomb attacks by men believed to be members of Boko Haram sect left six persons dead in a village around Jos, the Plateau State capital, Northcentral Nigeria, during the Barcelona FC versus Chelsea FC epic semi final UEFA Championship League clash last night.

The first bomb attack at Gwa-Rim village left five persons dead while nine others were injured. The attackers were reported to have bombed the popular area of the village where there was a large gathering of people, mostly youths, who were watching the Barca/Chelsea tie.

A spokesman of the village, Pam Ayuba, said the bomb attack on Tuesday night was coming on the heels of a similar one carried out about a week ago by the Boko Haram sect who killed 13 people.

After a bomb exploded near a bar in a Christian-dominated area of Jos, security operatives consisting police and military personnel took over the area. An eyewitness, Solomon Lafang informed P.M.NEWS that at about 8.30 p.m. yesterday, a bomber riding a motorcycle threw a polythene bag containing an explosive at the Tudun Wada Viewing Centre, Jos and sped off immediately.

Lafang added that as the bomb exploded, it missed the viewing centre by some metres but exploded near the centre where more than 200 football enthusiasts were watching the Barca/Chelsea match.

Terrified football fans who heard the explosion scampered for safety. As they rushed out of the viewing centre, they sustained injuries as a result of the stampede.

“The bomber targeted the viewing centre. But God saved us (football fans) that the bomb exploded at a distance of about 60 metres to the centre. So the impact was not much. But viewers ran out of the centre when they heard the blast,” the eyewitness narrated.

The six fans who were injured as a result of the stampede were rushed to the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH.

Our correspondent could not get the comments of the Joint Task Force, JTF, commander this morning as he did not pick his calls.

However, Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Dipo Ayeni confirmed the incident. He added that no death was recorded during the attack.
