Hello Friends!

A 13-year-old boy (name withheld) and a Mechanical Engineer identified simply as Okonkwo, have been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly robbing a shop in the Apapa area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the teenager, who lives in the same compound with Okonkwo at 108, Gbale Street, Ajegunle, robbed a shop with a driller.

A source, who craved anonymity, said the shop attendant thought the driller was a gun and when the suspects accosted her, she immediately obliged.

Our source said, “On Saturday morning, the boy and Okonkwo went to rob a lady with a driller. Because the driller has the shape of a gun, the suspects concealed it in such a way that the victim thought it was a real gun.

“The lady gave them two toy phones and money and they left. The boy immediately fled but Okonkwo was still within the vicinity when the victim raised the alarm.”

Our correspondent learnt that Okonkwo, who is a graduate of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, led policemen to the house where the boy was subsequently arrested.

The boy is believed to be a son of the chairman of one of the branches of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Apapa.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.

“I just spoke with the Divisional Police Officer, Apapa, and he confirmed the incident to me. I will give you more details later,” he said.
