Gbenga Daniel’s associate: Hospital awaits family’s request for autopsy

Hello Friends!
More news from Punch Newspapers:
The management of the Neuro psychiatry Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, has delayed performing an autopsy on the body of Chief Oluwole Olumide, who was found dead in the artificial lake of the Abeokuta Golf Resort on Saturday.

THE PUNCH learnt that the hospital, where the body of the late Abeokuta High Chief was deposited after it was recovered on Saturday, had not performed the autopsy to determine the nature of Olumide’s death because “the family has not requested for it”.

A source, who spoke to THE PUNCH on the condition of anonymity on Sunday, explained that the autopsy could only be done at the request of the deceased’s family, adding that the family might only request for autopsy if they suspected a foul play in his death.
The source said, “No autopsy has been done yet. If the family knows the cause of death, they may not decide to do it. But if they don’t know and suspect a foul play, they may request for the autopsy. It is left for them to decide. But right now, such has not been done because the family has not requested for it.”

Unlike in Lagos State, autopsy is not compulsory in Ogun State.

Efforts however made to know why the family of the late Olumide, who was until his death the Apagunpote of Egbaland, did not yield fruit on Sunday as the family members became very hostile to visitors, especially pressmen.

The late businessman was said to have died in the artificial lake of the golf resort in a circumstance that has become controversial on Friday while his body was recovered around 9am on Saturday.

He was an ally of the state former Governor Gbenga Daniel and the chairman of the resort, which has been involved in a battle with the Ogun State Government over the ownership of the land on which the Gold Resort Hotel, Abeokuta, was built.

Meanwhile, the remains of Olumide, who would have turned 70 in May, will be buried on Monday (today) in Abeokuta, a family source said on Sunday.

It was learnt that the family of the Egba High Chief had begun arrangements for the burial at his residence in Ita-Eko, Abeokuta.

A family source, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed to our correspondent on Sunday that the late architect would be buried at his residence on Monday.
