Hello Friends!

Some news of shame on the part of certain Nigerian Youths...

Justice Lawal Shuaibu of a Federal High Court in Kaduna has sentenced a student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye in Ogun State, Olasaidi Dare, to five years imprisonment for attempting to obtain money by false pretences.

The accused was said to have perpetrated the act in a cyber café belonging to a former Senator, Olabode Ola, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Ola is already standing trial at a state high court for allegedly operating an unregistered cybercafé.

The spokesperson for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said on Monday that the Judge ordered that the convict’s imprisonment should take effect from the date of his arrest.

He said, “Dare was arrested on March 31, 2008, at Friendly’s Cybercafé located at Friendly’s Hotel along Adebayo Street, Ado-Ekiti, while attempting to defraud an un-suspecting overseas victim using the internet facilities of the café.
“He was arrested alongside other suspects, one of whom had earlier been convicted by the same court.

The owner of the hotel, Senator Ola is already standing trial at an Ekiti State High Court, before Justice Adeyemi over an alleged illegal use of his premises and failure to register his cyber café with all the regulatory agencies, including the EFCC. He is being tried along with the manager of the cafe.”

The commission was said to have raided all illegal cyber cafes all over the nation in March 2008.

The operation was said to have yielded several arrests and exposed many owners of un-registered cafes.
