One killed in Kaduna bomb explosion

Hello Friends!

More news from The Punch:

There was confusion at the Ungwam Muazu, an outskirt of Kaduna State on Sunday as a bomb explosion rocked the area, killing the suspected bomber and leaving two others seriously injured.

The injured persons were taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.

An eyewitness said, “I heard a deafening sound on my way from the area. In fact, I can say that it was just by God grace that I left the area before hearing the sound. I was coming out of Ungwan Muazu when I heard the sound behind me and by the time I turned back, residents of the area were running for dear lives but I moved to the place. The bomb killed the person who carried it and injured two persons at the scene.”

The eyewitness told our correspondent that the explosion occurred at about 6.40pm. He said the suicide bomber died on the spot.
Already, the affected area was cordoned-off by security agents just as residents of the area scampered to safety.

Confirming the incident, Kaduna State Police Command spokesman, Aminu Lawan, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, told our correspondent that there was an explosion and men of the anti-bomb squad of the command had been mobilised to the scene of the incident.

Aminu said, “Yes it happened and we mobilised our Anti Bomb Squad men in the area. I can tell you based on the report I got from the place, one person died.”

“Two men came in a Toyota Camry saloon car and pretended to be visitors to the late chairman.

“But as soon as he came out, they fired several shots at him at close range, before escaping,’’ said a resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Mr. Samuel Tizhe, Public Relations Officer of the Borno Police Command, confirmed the killing.

Tizhe said, “We got information that a group of two gunmen shot dead the late chairman around 12.30pm at his State Low Cost residence in Maiduguri.
