Teacher caught on top of pupil arraigned

Hello Friends!
Remember this story? Here's an update:

29-year-old teacher, Mr. Seun Oyeleke, has been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court over an allegation that he raped two of his female pupils aged five and seven.

The Mathematics and Social Studies college of education graduate, who teaches at a private nursery and primary school in Osogbo, pleaded not guilty to the charges last Friday.

Alleging that the accused separately lured the two pupils to a toilet located at the back of the school, where he attempted to have sex with them, the charge sheet said the offence was contrary to the Osun State Criminal Code.
The charge sheet stated that the accused committed the offence on March 16 and 17, 2012.

Defence counsel, Mr. Abimbola Ige, applied for the bail of the accused, saying the charges against him were mere speculations.

Ige added that the suspect would provide credible sureties prior to trial.

Police prosecutor, Mr. Isiaka Ajadi, did not object to the application but drew the attention of the court to the ages of the two victims.

He also urged the court to ensure that the addresses of the prospective sureties were traceable.

The Magistrate, Mr. Olalekan Ijiyode, admitted the suspect to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the matter till April 11, 2012 for mention.

PUNCH Metro had last Thursday published the story of Oyeleke, who was allegedly caught while trying to have sex with a pupil in the toilet

One of the pupils’ mother had reportedly been informed by her son that the teacher was fond of taking his five-year-old younger sister out of the class to an unknown destination.

He was later caught pants down, when he took another girl out. The teacher was caught on the seven-year-old girl inside the toilet.

Meanwhile, a gender advocacy group, Centre for Gender Empowerment, has condemned the spate of rape and violence against minors in the state.

A statement issued by group’s Programme Director, Mr. Olalere Fagbola, on Sunday, called on government and stakeholders to rally against the phenomenon.

The statement said, “Violence against children and women must be condemned in its totality. We lend our voice against rape of minors and women generally. We lend our voice against violence against the female gender.”
