Navy to court-martial rating accused of killing baby

Hello Friends!
I was particularly excited when I read this update from yesterday's story! This is what I expected to happen!

The Nigerian Navy on Wednesday said Joseph Moses, the rating accused of throwing his three-month-old baby into the lagoon in Lagos, is in custody and will soon face a court martial.

NN spokesman in Lagos, Mr. Jerry Omodara, told our correspondent on the telephone that contrary to reports that he was walking free, he had been in confinement since the tragic incident was discovered.

Omodara said, “The woman who accused him of kidnapping and throwing her baby in the lagoon has been invited to make a statement. Investigation has revealed that he is culpable and a court martial has been set up.
“The sitting of the court martial would start soon and I assure you that the press would be notified when it is time. Right now, we are treating the issue as an allegation and want to ensure that Moses is given a fair hearing.”

The spokesman said the outcome of the court martial would determine the next line of action.

PUNCH Metro had on Wednesday, March 28, published how Moses, who was accused of being behind the kidnap and death of his love child had been walking free.

Two suspects in the custody of the State Criminal Investigations Department in connection with the case, alleged that Moses colluded with some hoodlums to kidnap the baby, whose paternity he had denied, and dumped her in the lagoon.

The spokesman of the state police command, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, had told our correspondent on Tuesday that the police could not arrest him because the Navy would have to take a disciplinary action against him first.
