Closed by the law: The troubled club's owners have until July 11 to face 14 counts of fights, noise violations, and two drug-related incidents filed by The State Liquor Authority.
Hello Friends!
The aftershocks from the massive bar brawl between Chris Brown and Drake's entourages continue to mount, and it's beginning to look like the party may be officially over for New York nightclub W.i.P.
Yesterday The State Liquor Authority filed 14 charges against the South Village hotspot, including one count of not ending the June 14 bloody brawl before flying bottles and fists injured at least eight people.
The troubled club has until July 11 to face potentially damning counts of other fights, noise violations, and two drug-related incidents.
The party's over: After the massive bar brawl between Chris Brown and Drake's entourages June 14, New York nightclub W.i.P. is facing so much legal trouble they might close.
'They’re absolutely in jeopardy of losing their licenses,' SLA spokesman William Crowley told The New York Post.
'They have a number of prior charges, too, so that comes into play when we’re looking at taking action.'
Among the bar's previous charges are selling alcohol to minors, noise and fire violations, and hiring unlicensed security guards.
'Eye' of the storm: Basketball star Tony Parker filed a $20 million lawsuit against W.i.P.'s owners yesterday holding them responsible for 'corneal laceration of the left eye and other injuries'
One guard, who was openly smoking a blunt, was caught selling marijuana to an undercover agent back in 2010, and also said he had cocaine for sale.
The club's owner Jonathan Cantor, who already temporarily closed the bar, was reportedly arrested on unrelated charges tied to two outstanding warrants.
The NYPD have not filed any charges related to the June 14 brawl, but they are currently investigating the case and reviewing the W.i.P.'s security tapes.
The aftermath: Flying bottles and fists injured at least eight people in the brawl between Brown and Drake's entourages.
Best of enemies: Drake, left, and Chris, right, seen partying on opposite sides of club WiP before the night ended in bottle throwing with Chris sustaining a cut to the chin.
Basketball star Tony Parker is the first victim of the brawl to officially file a $20 million lawsuit against W.i.P.'s owners holding them responsible for his 'corneal laceration of the left eye and other injuries.'
Parker’s lawyer claims that the management was 'under-staffed' that night and they should have known 'there was bad blood' between Brown and Drake.
A spokesperson for the club on Varick Street told MTV News yesterday that they were unable to comment on Parker's suit because they have not yet been served with any papers.
Fuelling the fire: Parker’s lawyer claims that the management was 'under-staffed' that night and they should have known 'there was bad blood' between Brown and Drake.
Troubled: The fight between the music superstars was said to be over Brown's ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
However, sources directly connected to the club told TMZ that they feel it's 'absurd' they're being sued when there was no way of predicting the known rivals would attack each other.
'Chris Brown and Drake are not Biggie and Tupac,' the source said, explaining that they had 15 security guards working that evening who did everything they could to quickly stop the fight.
According to the Post, sources allege that Drake, 25, 'sent Brown into a rage when his table sent over note that read, 'I am f****ng the love of your life,' allegedly in reference to Rihanna.
Parker's lawyer added that 24-year-old Umbrella singer 'has been known, like Helen of Troy, to cause trouble.'
The 30-year-old San Antonio Spurs guard will be out of action for a week while his eye heals with the help of a 'therapeutic' contact lens.
After joining the French Olympic team two days after the incident, Parker went to ER when his eye starting 'hurting' and 'getting worse.'
He said: 'I’ll be missing the start of the French team because I can’t do anything for a week except keep the lens in and then take drops.'
However, the injury will not stop Parker from competing in the Olympics.
The athlete is not the only one taking legal action after the fracas which injured several partygoers.
Model Ingrid Gutierrez blamed Drake for the violence which left her with a head wound, but added that she would sue anyone considered liable.
And Lucy Pavlovsky, who required 12 stitches in her arm, has promised to seek justice 'regardless of fame, money or stature.'
