Stop parading yourself as ex-gov, Fayemi tells Oni

Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (South-West), Mr. Segun Oni

Hello Friends!

Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi on Tuesday warned his predecessor, Mr. Segun Oni, to stop parading himself as a former governor of the state.

Fayemi said this while addressing artisans, students, youths and members of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties who had staged a protest asking President Godluck Jonathan to reinstate the suspended President of Court of Apeal, Justice Ayo Salami.

He said Oni, who was sacked by the Court of Appeal panel headed by Salami on October 15, 2010, was never a governor.

Fayemi said, “The judgment of the Court of Appeal which removed him from office is very clear that he was not elected as governor in 2007. Engr. Segun Oni was never a governor. No law by the state or the federal recognises him as a former governor.

“Very soon appropriate steps will be taken to make sure that anyone who impersonates will be prosecuted. We are very generous in this state, enough of the nonsense we have allowed to go on .

“You know that I am a very quiet person and if you put water in my mouth I won’t swallow it.”

The governor told the protesters that their action was in defence of the truth which he said was constant. He stated that Salami did no wrong when he was suspended by the National Judicial Council.

He said about eight members of the NJC met when they suspended him and the President wasted no time before he appointed a replacement for him on a Sunday.

Fayemi, who urged Jonathan not to play politics with Salami’s case said the president should not waste time before reinstating the suspended judge.

He said he won the 2007 governorship election, adding that the panel headed by Salami upheld that and exposed the nefarious acts of the ousted government.

Fayemi said, “Not Salami but Ekiti people spoke during the 2011 general elections. It was the people and not Justice Salami who spoke in the senatorial election, the House of Representatives and House of Assembly elections, which our party won.”

Meanwhile, Oni has described Fayemi’s comment as inconsequential.

In a statement made available to our correspondent in Ado-Ekiti by his media aide, Mr. Lere Olayinka, the ousted governor said his successor was wrong.
