Oteh seeks re-election as IOSCO committee’s regional head

Ms Arumah Oteh

Hello Friends!

The Securities and Exchange Commission has announced that its Director-General, Ms. Arunma Oteh, is seeking re-election as the Chairperson of the Africa/Middle East Regional Committee of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions.

SEC made this known this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday.

According to SEC, Oteh, the current head of AMERC in IOSCO, is seeking a second term in the position at the ongoing 37th Annual Conference/Meeting of IOSCO in Beijing, China.

The statement said, “Her quest for re-election is underscored by the focused and all-inclusive leadership she has provided the regional committee, it is also based on her impressive achievements since assuming the position in 2010, upon her appointment as the head of SEC, Nigeria.

“Under her leadership, the AMERC has refocused on key result areas and strategic issues that have enhanced the delivery of her vision for the region and this has within the short period, boosted the profile of the regional committee and improved the visibility of the region within the IOSCO community.

The statement added that Oteh was credited for relentlessly supporting members in their quest to qualify as signatories to the IOSCO, adding that she had promoted improved regional communication and cooperation.

It stated further that she had consistently ensured a more effective representation of the region at the various levels of the organisation’s policy-making activities.

Meanwhile, equity trading activities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange closed lower on Monday, with major market indicators shedding marginally.

Analysts attributed this to profit taking activities by investors, adding that speculative investors were trying to cash in on the gains recorded by major equities in the last few weeks.

At the close of trading, the market capitalisation of the listed equities rose by N23bn or 0.3 per cent, from N7.215tn last Friday, to N7.192tn.

Similarly, the NSE All-Share Index fell by 0.3 per cent or 69.98 basis points to close at 22,552.46 points, down from 22,622.44 points on Friday.

Custodian and Allied Insurance Plc recorded the highest price depreciation, shedding five per cent or five kobo to close at N1.71 per share.
