Bomb scare creates tension in Lagos...

Silverbird Galleria

Hello Friends!

The incessant bombings in various parts of the country seem to have infused a sense of paranoia in residents of Lagos.

According to Police sources, this week alone, four cases of bomb scare have been reported.

Following such scare, the popular Silverbird Galleria on Victoria Island on Tuesday, had many police bomb technicians scanning its premises for possible Improvised Explosive Devices.

Many patrons of the Galleria, upon seeing the anti-bomb squad hurriedly left the premises.

Similarly, on Wednesday evening, there was a bomb scare at the popular Synagogue Church of All Nations headquarters in the Ejigbo area of the state.

Operatives of the Anti-Bomb Police Command, upon receiving a distress call, immediately rushed down to the church, evacuated the building and scanned the church. But no explosive device was found.

On Thursday, the management of E-Centre on Commercial Avenue, Yaba, called in the police and bomb operatives after messages were being circulated on the phones and on the Internet that bomb had been planted on the premises.

Scores of employees and customers hurriedly left the premises and waited outside for a while until the bomb technicians finished scanning the premises.

The spokesperson for the Anti-Bomb Command, Mr. Gbolahan Moronfolu, described the scare an “empty threat,” adding that the state of insecurity in the country was the cause.

Moronfolu however lauded the quick response to the developments by members of the public.

He said, “It’s true that we went to Silverbird Cinemas but it wasn’t over any particular threat. It was just a regular check to ensure that the area was safe.

“We went to the Synagogue on Wednesday evening as well following a threat but after carrying out Explosive Ordinance Disposal procedure, nothing was found. Ditto for the E-Centre. The quick reaction shows that people are now more security conscious than ever.”

The spokesperson for the state police command, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, said the threat messages were being circulated by mischief makers and urged members of the public not to panick.

He also advised them not to engage in spreading false news.
