Hello Friends!

What do you think? Is this amount reasonable for the number of people to be buried...I think it is... May their souls rest in perfect peace.

St. Roberts Catholic Church, Adamgbe, Benue State, is to spend N2.69m for the burial of its 22 members, who died when the church building collapsed during the Easter vigil.

The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Cosmos Jooli, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Adamgbe Mbayong in Vandeikya Local Government Area of the state.

Jooli said the amount included the cost of caskets, mortuary bills, ambulance charges, entertainment and preparing the graves.

He said the deceased would all be buried on Friday on the church premises.

He said the initial estimate of N2.5m the parish gave to Governor Gabriel Suswam as the cost of treatment and burial was inadequate.

“We have discovered that the amount is inadequate because so many other things were omitted in the initial estimate,’’ Jooli said.

The cleric said the church had already spent N364,950 on medical treatment for those that survived the incident.

Jooli said, “For instance, we were given an initial estimate for their treatment, but have discovered that the cost of treatment keeps increasing.

“Some of them have been referred to other hospitals in the state, while others are still undergoing treatment.’’

He said the 26 survivors had been undergoing treatment at St. Elizabeth Hospital and St. Monica Hospital, Vandeikya and Adikpo respectively.

Jooli said some of them had been discharged, while many were still on admission in the hospitals.

The pastor regretted that the church now held its masses in the open since the collapse of the building.

He said he had not received donation for the re-construction of the church, adding that such donations would be handled by the Bishop.

NAN reports that there were 22 newly-dug graves on the premises of the collapsed church.
