OUR FSF (Friday Sports Feature): Ghanaian Footballers Taking Over Europe...

Ghana is just one of the many African countries providing top flight European teams with international players to swell their ranks. Many players from the Ghana national team are also important members of some of Europe’s best clubs.

Suleyman Ali Muntari was born in the small town of Konongo, Ghana in 1984. He currently plays for Italian giants AC Milan. He helped former club Inter Milan win two Serie A titles and the Champions League. He drew the notice of international scouts while playing for the Ghana under 20 team. Previous clubs include stints at Udinese, Portsmouth, Intern Milan and Sunderland.


Anthony Gildas Kofi Annan (yes, he is related to the Kofi Annan) was born in Accra in 1986. He currently plays as a central midfielder for top flight Spanish side Osasuna. Previous clubs include Sekondi Hasaacas, Hearts of Oak, Rosenborg, Schalke and Vitesse. He has 56 caps for Ghana, scoring his first goal for them against Mali in 2009.


Michael Kojo Essien is a midfielder who was born in Accra in 1982. He started out playing for Ghana's Liberty Professionals where was spotted by French side Bastia where he spent three years. After that he rose to fame playing for Premier League giants Chelsea. After 163 caps and 17 goals for The Blues Essien was loaned out to Real Madrid. His nickname is The Bison for his physical style of football.


Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong was born in Ashanti capital Kumasi in 1192. The youngster moved to London at an early age and was scouted by Arsenal when only 14-years-old. He made six appearances for Arsenal in 2011 before being loaned to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2012. He has played for the England Under 16 and England Under 17 sides. He has pledged his international future to Ghana.


Born in Seclin, France to Ghanaian parents, winger Ayew is one of three football playing sons of football legend Abedi Pele. He started playing professionally for Ghanaian club Nania at age 14. He was signed by Marseille in 2005 where he spent two years with their youth side before making his debut for the senior side in 2007. He has 78 caps and 19 goals for Marseille and 40 caps and four goals for the Ghana national team.
