Hello Friends!

A law student was dragged into a park and savagely raped after being ‘turfed off’ the last bus home because she was 20p short of the £5 fare, a court has heard.
The 22-year-old victim was left stranded in a city centre at 3am after the bus driver refused to wait a few moments so she could withdraw extra money from a nearby cash dispenser.

But after walking for less than a mile, the prosecution claim she was targeted by drink-fuelled Joseph Moran, who then allegedly launched a ‘savage’ attack which was ‘almost devoid of any mercy’, a court heard

The 19-year-old then apparently calmly raised the alarm with a passing police patrol police, claiming to have stumbled across her semi-naked body.

The court heard that after being turned away by the Nottingham bus driver, the student called her mother who agreed to collect her for the 14 mile journey home.
Prosecutor Michael Auty told the court that the victim volunteered to walk to the edge of the city centre to spare her mother from having to negotiate a one-way system she was unfamiliar with.

She was beaten and raped just yards from where her mother had stopped to search for her. When the pair were eventually united, Mr Auty said the injuries were so severe that her mother didn’t immediately recognise her.
Mr Auty said the victim had been out celebrating the end of her graduate diploma in law exams when she boarded the late bus last December.
He said: ‘The fare was £5. She had only £4.80. The bus driver would not waive the 20p.

She asked him if he could wait while she got some money from a nearby cash machine. He refused that request too.
‘She was effectively turfed off the bus and left stranded in Nottingham city centre at 3am in the morning.’

Nottingham Crown Court heard the victim was grabbed by the neck and dragged in to Nottingham’s Forest Recreation Ground where she was beaten and raped.
Her ‘substantial’ injuries included black eyes, a badly swollen face and bruises to her body, breasts and neck.

Mr Auty told the jury that ‘in the cruellest of circumstances’ the mother had pulled up on a stretch of the road where she expected her daughter to be walking, and just yards from where she had been attacked.
The mother called her daughter’s mobile phone twice and on each occasion she could hear a ‘grunting’ before the line went dead.
Police in a passing patrol car stopped to ask the mother if she was all right. She explained she was looking for her daughter.

Within minutes, Moran appeared, ran to the police car and banged on the roof He told the officers he had been walking through the park and come across the victim who had already been attacked.
The court heard that he told the officers ‘You had better come quick. I think a girl has been raped or something’, claiming mud and the victim’s blood were transferred to his body and clothes when he tried to help her to her feet.

Accused: Joseph Moran, 19, denied rape and wounding at Nottingham Crown Court, and claimed he was the one who spotted the attacked girl

The girl was found nearby sat with her knees pulled tight to her chin. She was naked from the waist down.
Mr Auty said of Moran’s explanation of how he came to find the woman: ‘The simple truth is that the defendant’s assertions were highly implausible’.

The prosecutor suggested Moran had panicked when he spotted the police car and then ‘made out he was her saviour, her knight in shining armour’.

When told he was being arrested on suspicion of attacking the woman, the defendant replied: ‘This is what you get for trying to help someone.’

Tests showed the defendant was around two-and-a-half times over the legal drink-drive limit. There were also traces of cannabis and cocaine inside his body.
Moran, of Sneinton, Nottingham, denies rape and wounding.
The trial continues.
