The Ideal Woman In Politics...

Hello Friends!
TGIF (Thank God it's Friday).

It is common to hear people tease the concept of Women's Liberation and the need for women to participate in the affairs of government, as best as they can. Although my understanding of "Women's Liberation" connotes the woman's awareness of her personality as a supporter and her role and importance in the decision making process of any government. It also means that the woman's voice is as important as the man's voice (considering the fact that we all live in the same society).

Today, thankfully, women are participating more actively in political issues than ever before and are setting enviable standards (some of them actually).

However you understand the concept of women in Politics, the fact still remains that she must not neglect her primary role: Being a Woman. Although a woman must not be confined to the kitchen (whatever that means), I strongly believe that the ideal woman in Politics must learn to build and maintain her home front and create a balance in her life!

It's a notorious fact now that one of the husbands to a female deputy governor in one of the Western states has impregnated his mistress of many years! The said relationship, even started while the now deputy governor was a commissioner! Haba! What was she doing? Building her political career at the detriment of her marriage, home and sanity?
This is where most women in politics go wrong! Being a politician, does not necessarily mean you must lose the aspects of our life that from the onset has always been part of you! Family!

To me, it might not be as easy as it seems, but I strongly know that every distinct situation depends on the individual involved. Why would a woman who is married with children, spend more time outside her home all in the name of politics / career development? Everything must be placed on a balance of priorities! Which is more important? Family or Politics? If a woman must have both, she must balance them well. A woman, who would rather abandon her home front and chase after political power and positions, would end up like our dear "deputy governor".

Hon. Abike Dabiri Erewa who is still my best Nigerian Woman in politics, has so far shown an ideal balance to work and home life...I shall not spend time here blowing her horn, but I must state that she has shown how a woman in politics in Nigeria should live. From her days in NTA till date, she has been scandal free and has shown respect for herself, family and her office (people of her constituency / Nigerians generally).

The game of Politics changes with time and anyone that must play it must be ready to be brutal but such brutality should not be at the expense of the home and family. Most of our female politicians / office holders have not shown good examples and this is giving a bad reputation to women's continued participation in politics.

I personally vote for balance in the life of any woman, irrespective of her chosen career path. Family must always take priority.

Enjoy your weekend my Friends!

XOXO

Simply Cheska.
