Hello Friends!
A leader of motorcycle operators’ association in Ondo town, Ebenezer Adedeji, was on Saturday killed by anokada rider. It was learnt that Adedeji was the branch chairman of the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria, the okada riders’ unit in one of the parks in the town.
Witnesses said Adedeji had before the incident, stood at Shora Street where he allegedly accosted the suspected killer and demanded N100, being the money for the daily ticket of the association.
An argument was said to have ensued between Adedeji and the suspect leading to a scuffle.
The suspect was said to have abandoned his motorcycle on the spot and left for his house which is located few metres to the area, only to return with a cutlass.
It was learnt that Ebenezer also left the scene to attend a meeting of the association in the area. But unknown to him, the suspect who is yet-to-be identified had allegedly laid ambush for the union leader at the entrance of the venue of the meeting.
As soon as Ebenezer came out of the meeting, the suspect allegedly hacked him down with the cutlass.
The suspect was said to have been later overpowered by the traders in the area, before he was handed over to the police. According to one of the witnesses, after the suspect first hit Ebenezer with the cutlass, the deceased took to his heels but the okada rider ran after him and continuously hit him with the machete.
A source at the Enuowa Divisional Police Station, where the incident was reported, explained that a detachment of policemen led by a senior police officer was drafted to the scene.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the station, Chief David Ehighale, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident.
He added that the suspect had been transferred to the homicide section at the Ondo State Police Command headquarters in Akure, for further investigation.
He also said Ebenezer’s remains had been deposited at the state Specialist Hospital, Ondo town.
