Family time: The Duke was pictured with his daughter Princess Anne watching Zara compete in the Olympics.
Hello Friends!
The Duke of Edinburgh has been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary this afternoon as a 'precautionary measure', Buckingham Palace said.
It's the third time in eight months that Prince Philip, 91, has been taken to hospital.
The most recent admission was in June, during celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, when he fell ill with a bladder infection.
He came down with the infection after appearing alongside the Queen during the four hour rain-soaked Jubilee Pageant on the River Thames and spent five nights recovering at the King Edward VII Hospital in London. He was forced to miss a number of engagements including the Diamond Jubilee concert and a trip to Nottingham with the Queen.
He was also flown to Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire days before Christmas last year where he underwent surgery to have a stent inserted in a blocked artery.
Jubilee: Prince Philip was taken to hospital with a bladder infection days after River Pageant in June.
He was able to rejoin his family after a four night stay but was under doctor’s orders to rest as much as possible, which reportedly led him to give up shooting at Sandringham.
Before the heart scare he had been fit and apparently healthy, and led the active life of a man of younger years.
In March this year his grandson Prince Harry said the operation had given him 'a new spurt of life'.The Duke had been staying in Balmoral with the Queen when he was admitted to hospital.
Details of why he has been admitted are not yet available.
Admitted: The Duke was staying in Balmoral with the Queen when he was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The Duke last appeared in public on the Isle of Wight yesterday and appeared fully recovered from his health scares earlier this year. He made a trip to Cowes in July but returned for a series of engagements yesterday, including lunch at the County Club, Newport, visiting a mobile health unit and then a family business to unveil a plaque marking its 40th anniversary.
He also looked well when he appeared at the Queen's side during the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony on July 27, and then when they toured the Olympic Park.
He was photographed laughing and smiling with Princess Anne a few days later as he watched his granddaughter Zara compete.
