Hello Friends!

Emotions flowed at a memorial held in Lagos on Friday in honour of a couple, Mr. Daniel Awani and his wife, Georgina, who died in the June 3 Dana plane crash.
Family members described the couple as two people who radiated love.

Renato, Daniel’s cousin, who spoke during the service of songs at the Catholic Church of the Presentation, Lagos, saidoted that it would take a long time for the wounds created by the deaths to heal. According to him, it is saddening that the couple did not attain the age of 70.
He said, “It’s unfortunate that the deceased didn’t even live up to three scores and ten years.
“It is easy to admonish one to be strong and take heart at this very trying time but it is something pretty difficult to do.

“Above all, I enjoin everyone gathered here this evening not to abandon the children, who have lost their parents in the tragic crash.”
The parish priest, Rev. Fr. Ethelbert Ukpabi, said June 3 was a day he wished never came.
He said, “The couple were kind-hearted and devoted to God’s work. Their marriage was unique in oneness until death. Good people are scarce to come by but the few ones are the ones dying.
“We will miss them in our midst. I wish June 3 never came but who am I to question God.”

Ukpabi urged the congregation to accept the couple’s death as the will of God.
Vice Principal, Administration, State Senior High School, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, Mrs. Toyin Kuti, who led members of staff and students of the school to the service of songs, said Daniel was a lover of children.
She said, “Mr. (Daniel) Awani made our 2011 sports competition colourful by donating T-shirts and fez caps to the school. He is a lover of children.
“He even promised to be fully involved in our next sports fiesta. Unfortunately, he is no more. We are here to pay him and his wife our last respects.”

Old students of the Federal Government College, Warri, Delta State, Daniel’s classmates, were also there to pay tributes.
Their representative, Olayinka Ajiboye, said Daniel “was a perfect gentleman.”

He said, “Throughout our days at the FGC Warri, even up to the time we spent together at the University of Lagos, I knew him as a quiet, hardworking, firm and perfect gentleman.”
