Hello Friends!

The management of the Nigerian Law School on Tuesday in Abuja affirmed its resolve to drag two persons amongst those called into the Nigerian Bar to court for attempting to write the bar final examination for two resit students.

The Director General of the school, Dr. Tahir Mamman made this known at the Call to Bar ceremony of 1,116 lawyers who passed their bar final examinations.

Out of the total students, five graduated with 2nd Class Upper, 23 passed with 2nd Class Lower while 1,088 came out with Pass.

These graduands, according to the DG, comprise of the first set of the school from one of the newly established campuses- Bayelsa campus, which had a total students’ population of 253. He expressed his delight over their performance which he noted, was excellent- with overall result of close to 80%.

The rest are students who wrote the examination as resist, from both the new and old curriculum.

Dr. Mamman enjoined the new wigs to be job creators rather than pursuing job in the formal sector.

“I want to end this part by mentioning the unfortunate incidence during the last examination where two recently qualified lawyers collaborated with two resit students and attempted to write the examinations on behalf of those two resit students. They were caught and will soon be charged to court while the school is preparing to petition the Deisciplinary Committee of the Body of Benchers for their De bar. Clearly, they should not be associated with this honorable profession”

“We will continue to keep vigil to ensure that people with such deplorable tendency do not find a space in the profession” the DG further stated.

Addressing the new lawyers, the chairman of the body of Benchers, Chief Idowu Sofola, a senior advocate of Nigeria, tasked them to maintain a dignified presence and balanced sense of judgment, practical and exceptional intellectual grasp and great industry adding that all these would help them to command the respect of their colleagues.

According to him,”Another point of note is remembering your status at all times as ministers in the temple of justice. You are responsible to the Bar, the Bench and your client. You must strike the balance between these three important aspects in order to see that justice is done and be seen to be done”.
