Customs arrest couple with N3.2m hemp...

Hello Friends!

The Nigeria Customs Service at Seme border has arrested a couple with 30 compressed blocks of weed suspected to be Indian hemp, whose value is put at N3.2m.
The substance was seized while being conveyed into the country from the Republic of Benin through the Seme border in a Kia Sephia car with Lagos number plate KSF160AG.

The Customs Area Controller, Mr. Othman Saleh, said in a statement on Wednesday that the substance was concealed in the bonnet and under the seat of the car.
He added that the car was intercepted at Gbaji checkpoint.

Apart from the couple, the CAC also said a baby was found in the car.
Saleh said the suspects, along with the exhibits and the car had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution.

He added that the arrest and seizure were in furtherance of his resolve to strengthen the existing inter-service tie between the customs at the border and other government agencies such as NDLEA. He warned persons involved in any form of illegality at the border to desist as all government security agencies operating under his chairmanship at the joint security meeting were determined to flush out all criminals in the area.

Taking over the drugs and suspects, Mr. Bashir Oladosun, a Superintendent of Narcotics, commended Saleh and his men for the arrest.
