Hello Friends!
Super Eagles’ coach, Stephen Keshi, will on Thursday name the team for the three games involving the national team in the month of June.
The first set of the team made up of 24 players from the domestic league have been in camp in Abuja for the past two weeks, ahead of the international friendly against Peru in Lima on May 23. A final list of 17 will be made out of that bulk to be joined by five foreign-based players.
The team named on Thursday will confront Namibia and Malawi in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Calabar and Blantyre respectively, as well as the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Amavubi of Rwanda also in Calabar.
Nigeria will take on Namibia on Sunday, June 3; fly to Blantyre to play Malawi on Saturday, June 9 and return to Calabar to play Rwanda on Sunday, June 17.
The list will also detail the 17 players from the Abuja camp who will be joined by the five foreign-based players for the trip to Lima, Peru.
The Nigerian delegation will depart for Madrid from Lagos on May 19, and connect a direct flight from Madrid to Lima on May 20.
The squad for the clash with Brave Warriors of Namibia is expected to arrive in Calabar on May 27 for the final stage of the camping.
On Tuesday the Eagles coach confirm that a replacement will be made for injured Joel Obi. The new entry will be made public on Thursday as well.
He said, “It’s sad that he’s injured; he’s a promising player but we cannot invite an injured player to camp. One thing is certain – he has many years ahead of him to serve his fatherland.”
In Tuesday morning’s training in Abuja, 17 players featured but all the players are expected to be part of Wednesday training.
Culled from The Punch.
