Funke Akindele, TK shine at ZUMA awards

Multiple award winning actress, Funke Akindele has added another feather to her cap as she walked away with the Best Actress award at this year’s ZUMA Film Festival which rounded off Wednesday night in Abuja.

Akindele’s film the “Return of Jenifa” also won the award of the Highest Grossing movie in the box office in Nigeria.

She won the Best Actress award for her role in “Maami’, a film produced by ace-cinematographer, Tunde Kelani who also won the awards of the Best of Director and the Best Nigerian film.
 

The actress defeated Genevieve Nnaji(Tango with Me) and Lilian Bach(Eletan) to clinch the prize.

In her acceptance speech, Akindele dedicated the award to her father, saying that she feels honoured and privileged to be given the award.

Other big winners included, Yemi Blaq who won the Best Actor’s award for his role in the film, “The Impostor”, Mahood Ali-Balogun whose film, “Tango With Me” won the Best Script award, film critic, Shaibu Husseini won the Best film Journalist award and Idi Nasiru whose “Naked Truth” film was adjudged the Best Student film.

Also, the award of the Best Nigerian Distributor went to Blue Pictures while the Life Achievement award was given to governor Ibrahim Shema of Kastina State.

Special recognition awards were equally given to deserving corporate Nigerians and organisations such as NBC, Nexim Bank, SMEDAN and the embassy of Spain for their notable contributions to the growth of Nigerian motion picture industry and the projections of the works of filmmakers.

The glamorous award night which held at Nicon Luxury hotel, Abuja, climaxed the four-day event which featured series of events ranging from colloquiums.
