Fresh facts have emerged on how the 10th Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Tokunbo Sofoluwe died on Saturday.
The university in a statement on Sunday, confirmed that Sofoluwe died of cardiac arrest.
The statement explained that Sofoluwe suffered a heart attack while in his office at the Department of Computer Science on Friday night but managed to call his doctor who came to his rescue and brought him to the institution’s Medical Centre in an ambulance.
The deceased, the university added, was subsequently transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba where he was diagnosed as having Myocardial Infarction.
Myocardial infarction refers to a situation whereby a blood clot stops blood from flowing in a heart (coronary) artery
“He was resuscitated before being transferred to the High Dependency Unit in Ward E8 of LUTH. Unfortunately, he suffered a second heart attack and all efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Post mortem examination has since been carried out and this has confirmed the cause of death to be of Cardiac Origin,” the statement added.

The statement added that the university had declared three days of mourning in honour of Sofoluwe, the 10th VC of UNILAG
According to a statement, the mourning period will run from Monday (today) till Wednesday.
During the mourning period, all lectures, statutory meetings and other university activities at its three campuses (Akoka, Yaba and Idi-Araba, including its staff schools) will not hold.
The university has also set up a burial committee headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Research) Prof. Babajide Alo.
According to a statement, the mourning period will run from Monday (today) till Wednesday.
During the mourning period, all lectures, statutory meetings and other university activities at its three campuses (Akoka, Yaba and Idi-Araba, including its staff schools) will not hold.
