KANO—Joint Task Force, JTF, raided the hideout of suspected religious extremists in Hotoro quarters of Kano municipal, killing four in the ensuing gunfight. JTF spokesman, Lt. Ikediche Iweha, told Vanguard on phone that several suspected militants were arrested during the operation.
Hotoro residence were forced to stay indoors Sunday morning during the gunfight between JTF and the suspected extremists in the city that witnessed the worse church attack last week.
Residents who spoke with Vanguard on condition of anonymity said they could hear sporadic gunshots and explosions that last lasted a couple of hours.
A resident said: “We had practically given up hope due to confusion and the intensity of sporadic gunshots and explosives. We give glory to Allah.”
The Army spokesman said that the combat operation was successful, adding that “there was no casualty on the side of security forces.”
Iweha failed to clarify number of arrest and items recovered, stressing that “what should constitute news to you guys is that we raided a hideout used by extremists this morning, four were killed while many were arrested.
Normalcy has since returned to the troubled quarters as shop owners were seen opening for business but many shops however remained shut.
