A day-old baby girl with placenta has been abandoned by her parents in Egbedi area of Ilesa, Osun State.
A female, passer-by, who preferred to be anonymous, heard the cry of the baby in the early hours of Tuesday, and came to her rescue.
The passer-by, who was on her way to work, said the baby was wrapped in a shawl and laid in a box covered with nylon.
A Director in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Mr. Femi Ayedun, decried the development, saying it was callous and inhuman.
Ayedun called on parents and guardians to instill the fear of God in their children and wards, saying children raised in the fear of God would not depart from godly ways.
He urged the parents of the baby to come forward and claim her, saying children are gifts from God.
Ayedun said the Rauf Aregbesola administration was committed to entrenching moral values in the youth through exemplary leadership.
