Driver arraigned for attempting to kill judge

Lagos CJ, Justice Inumidun Akande

Hello Friends!
More news from Punch Metro...
A 33-year-old commercial driver, Quadri Kasali, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court, Tinubu, Lagos, for attempting to kill a Lagos High Court Judge, Justice Adebanji Adebajo, on March 1, 2012.
The accused was said to have been driving a commercial Vanagon bus at about 2.20pm along Moloney Street, Lagos Island, when he committed the alleged crime.

The police alleged that the accused hit the judge with the commercial bus, with registration number XA 242 KLK, when the judge challenged him over his manner of driving, and of obstructing other road users. The judge, who has not been able to sit since the incident occurred, was said to have sustained a severe injury on his right arm.

Kasali pleaded not guilty to the one count of attempted murder preferred against him before Chief Magistrate M.A Ladipo. The offence was said to be punishable under Section 228(2) of Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011. While the matter was adjourned till April 3, the accused was remanded in prison custody.
Both his vehicle and driving licence have been seized by the court.
The charge read in part, “That you Quadri Kasali, on March 1, at Moloney Street, Lagos Island, in the Lagos Magisterial District being a driver in charge of a commercial Vanagon bus with registration number XA 242 LKL drove the said vehicle in such a deliberate manner with intent to kill one Justice Adebanji Adebajo, who challenged you for obstructing other road users.”

Last Words: My sincere question is: "would the accused be arraigned, if the victim was not a judge?
Is  this a case of class in our society? How many reckless drivers are arraigned before our courts for almost killing innocent citizens on our roads daily???
