Desperate suitor to be charged with attempted murder

Lateefah
Hello Friends!
Here is an update on the acid story we brought to you some days back: Source Punch Metro.
The Lagos State Police Command will charge Alabi Olokode with attempted murder for allegedly assaulting Lateefah Adesope with acid which made her lost her eyes.PUNCH Metro learnt that Olokode is at present being detained at the Homicide Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.A police source told our correspondent on Tuesday that Olokode still insisted that he was innocent.

The source said, “Olokode has written statements but has maintained his innocence despite contrary evidence.“Investigations are ongoing but we’re still trying to build up a strong case against him. So, we are expecting witnesses to come forward.

“Also, we are charging him with murder because we assumed that his intention was to kill the lady. Besides, the lady’s health is still not alright.”It was gathered that Olokode attempted suicide after allegedly throwing acid at the victim.“The suspect’s relatives claimed that after the incident, Olokode swallowed poison in order to kill himself but was rushed to a hospital,” our source said.
It was gathered that Lateefah had been taken to the Republic of Benin for further treatment. Meanwhile, readers have continued to express their anger at the suspect, with many of them asking that he should be given a stiff punishment.

One of such readers, Oluwaseyi Sunday, said, “The full weight of the law should be brought to bear on him. He should be denied bail, so that he would not run, and if convicted; the heaviest punishment should be given to him.“He has literally destroyed this girl’s life. But I believe that the situation is not hopeless. God can and will bring out the best from the life of Lateefah.”

Another reader, who identified himself simply as Rasheed, advised that a legislation that would severely punish those who engaged in such attacks should be put in place.
“Acid cases are so common in our society and women are on the receiving end of this menace. Government should come to the rescue of this young lady,” he said.

A comment from a reader, Sunshine Joseph, was less subtle as he advised that Olokode should be allowed to die in jail if convicted.
“People like him are not supposed to live among normal people. Is she the only girl in the world? If he is set free, he will go back and commit a similar crime,” Joseph said. Another reader, Yakubu Abubakar, regretted that the dreams of the victims had been shattered.

“Nothing is beyond God’s control. That man should be treated like a hardened criminal to serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.
