The most chilling moment of a reflective ceremony came when Mary’s good friend addressed the press before the service and HollywoodLife. was right there.
Mary Kennedy‘s suicide was beyond shocking for her family, and Kerry Kennedy — Mary’s best friend and the sister of her estranged husband Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. — gave an emotional speech to press on before the May 19 funeral in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Bedford, N.Y., and HollywoodLife. has the entire statement.
“Mary suffered from depression and it’s a disease that so many, many, many Americans suffer from,” she said. “I just think about the story of Michael, the arch angel, who had to battle the forces of evil, had to battle Satan who was trying to enter paradise. And that’s what Mary did her whole life. She was battling those demons and keeping them out of the paradise that was Mary.”
She also said that Mary’s children were the loves of her life.
“She just lived her life to the fullest,” she said. “She did everything she could for her friends and she loved her children more than anything else. Connor was her prince. Kiera, her little girl, looked exactly like Mary. On Tuesday she was talking about where Kiera was going to school and what she was going to do this summer, and she just loved her children more than anything.”

“I’m Kerry Kennedy and on behalf of my brother Bobby and Mary’s children Conner, Keira, Finn and Aiden I just want to thank everyone for all their prayers and support of our family. Mary was my very very best friend and the best friend anyone could ever imagine having we were roommates from the time I was 15 to the time we were 30 and two years later she married my brother Bobby.
Um, she was brilliant and she was beautiful and she cared so very very deeply about everybody around her.
She had friends in every corner of the globe, really deep rich rich friendships and she when we were in high school it was so amazing bc there was always a stack of papers on her desk that she was supposed to do and another stack of all the high school students who needed their papers checked for spelling and grammatical errors before they turned them in.
When we were in Brown together, she got her first failing grade of her entire life and it was in art history and she went to the professor and said why did you fail me? And he said because I’ve been working here for 30 years and I’ve never seen a freshman paper written like this so I think you plagiarised.
So Mary said why don’t you give me a piece of art and I’ll write one right now and the professor said okay the Sistine Chapel. And Mary wrote a one page paper on the Sistine Chapel right there in front of the professor and he picked it up and said this is one of the most brilliant pieces of writing I’ve ever seen, and I stand corrected.

And that’s what Mary her whole life she was battling battling those demons and keeping them out of the paradise that was Mary and I just think that she was really an angel, an angel who was brought to us to live here on earth and I think God just brought her back up to heaven and said you don’t have to fight anymore and brought her to heaven where she needs to be.
