Suicide bomber attacks church in Jos, gunmen kill worshippers in Borno

Large crowd gathered at the rubble of Lord's Chosen Church in Jos

Hello Friends!

A suicide bomber blew himself up on Sunday at the entrance of Lord’s Chosen Church on Rukuba Road in Jos, the Plateau State capital on Sunday.

The suicide bomber was said to have driven his Volkswagen Vento car to the church around 11a.m, as the first service was ended and the second service was about to begin.
He was heading to St. Peter’s Catholic Church a few metres away but was dissuaded by a barricade set up by youths of the church.

He then changed his mind and faced Lord’s Chosen Church. But before he could ram his vehicle into the building, it exploded, killing a woman and injuring many others.

An account said over 20 people died in the attack, which also claimed the life of the bomber.
The impact of the blast reduced the church building to rubble.

No fewer than 41 persons were injured, out of which 37 were admitted to Bingham University Teaching Hospital and four to Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos.
Angry youths immediately set up barricades and assaulted journalists and rescue officials.

Security agents and rescue officials had a hard time getting to the church to remove corpses and evacuate the injured.
The youths were, however, dispersed by the police.

In a separate attack in Biu, Borno State, five gunmen killed some worshippers leaving a church, before entering the main building to shoot more people.

Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, Dipo Ayeni, confirmed the Jos attack.
The spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, Yushau Shuaibu, also confirmed the attacks in Jos and Biu.
