Are Personal Issues Defeating You? Part 2

Hello Friends!

Are you a control freak? Do you often think, If I want something done right, I have to do it myself? Control is something we all manage but very rarely think about. Control is linked to our beliefs about ourselves, about others, and about God. Getting free from our control freakiness is directly linked to the practice of surrendering to God as a habit and daily practice.

The Journey to Freedom

Living the Christian life isn’t just about a one-time decision and a ticket to heaven. Discovering the secret to a loving life often takes real strength and work. Learning to love others starts with owning our issues. The second step is realizing that we can’t fix them ourselves. Even if we created the problem or we think our issue is very small, we won’t move forward if we don’t recognize how we’ve failed at changing ourselves. Finally, we must recognize that God will change us if we will allow Him full access to our hearts.

Unforgiveness

Unforgiveness. The cousin of anger is unforgiveness. Bearing a grudge keeps our internal engines torqued high. When we struggle with unforgiveness, we wrestle with the deepest questions of our faith: What does God do with evil? Am I truly required to forgive? Being hurt by others often erodes our trust in people and makes us close in on ourselves. But the great mystery of forgiveness is that we may find the most healing in healthy relationships that support and carry us through the process.

True Abundance

By journeying through your issues you discover the true secret of a life with Christ. God doesn’t want to work around your issues or despite your issues—He wants to work straight through them. The process of working through your issues is called sanctification—and it’s a lifelong journey.

But you know you’ve traveled far when you practice surrendering to God’s way, when you choose honesty, when you learn how to forgive. By doing so, you won’t be a woman free of issues—but you’ll be a woman who is changing, growing, and being transformed. And that’s true abundance.
