Okadas Banned:Lagos Police Commissioner.

Hello Friends!
I want to believe that this step is a positive one, towards eradicating the menace called ''Commercial Okadas'' in Lagos State.

The new commissioner of police warns motorcyclists to keep to designated routes

The new commissioner for police in Lagos state, Umar Abubakar Manko, who assumed office on Monday, has warned commercial motorcycle riders to steer clear of routes from which they have been banned. In a press statement, Mr. Manko also urged residents of the city to cooperate with police officers to fight crime within the state.

The full text of the statement, signed by the state's police spokesperson, Jaiyeoba Joseph, is given below:
In view of the recent wave of stealing of motor cars, the Lagos State Police Command wishes to use this medium to advise motor cars owners, most especially users of Toyota Camry / Honda Cars to insure their vehicles with reputable Insurance Companies as well as providing other security gadgets that can neutralize the vehicles while on motion, in order to tame and discourage the criminal within our folds. They should also endeavour to inform the nearest Police Station promptly of any criminality within their domain.

Also due to increasing rate of criminality through use of motorcycles popularly known as Okada. The Lagos State Government in collaboration with the Lagos State Police Command have decided to put a total ban on Okada within Ikeja axis namely: Oba Akran, Bank Anthony Way, Isaac John, Opebi Link Bridge, Adekunle Fajuyi Way, Acme Road, Alausa- Oregun, Simbiat Abiola Way and Kodeso Road with immediate effect.

The general public are therefore advised to comply with the directive strictly, most especially the Okada riders.
