Hello Friends!
Survivor Speaks:
As 37-year-old Miss Faith Ekpe lies at the Intensive Care Unit of the Plateau State Hospital on Monday, she was uncertain what the future holds for her.
With an almost 90 degree burns from the March 11 St. Finbarr’s Catholic Church bombings, Faith could hardly talk as she related what happened to her on Sunday.
Faith, an unemployed nurse and resident in Abuja was a victim of the blasts by sheer circumstance.
Her tale represents those of the other victims who, by mother fate found themselves where they were supposed to be but had to be victims by mere coincidence.
A resident of Mararaba in Abuja, Faith came to Jos to visit her relations, when she, along with her mother, went to worship their God. But her life was torn apart by the bombers.
Faith said, “I was just standing by the car listening to the 10am mass when I heard a loud explosion. That’s all I can remember, until I found myself in the hospital.”
She said she did see the car driven by one of the bombers as she was just listening to the service going on.
Though her mother was not injured, Faith had burns all over her body, with her face mostly affected.
A nurse, who declined to give her name because she was not authorised to speak, told our correspondent that Faith needed all the luck to survive.
“As you can see, she has burns all over her body and she’s been revived. She was brought in unconscious, but she has regained consciousness, but she has to remain at the ICU until she can move all her body.”
