Popular singer, Goldie, dies on Val Day....

Goldie Harvey...

Hello Friends!

My Thoughts: I am so tired of seeing our talented movie and musical artists die in their prime without the slightest sign of impending death!!! It pains my heart that Goldie, unfortunately! Has been linked with this train of disasters!!! I am so shocked and filled with questions....Why? Why Goldie? Why Now?

Hip-hop singer, Susan Harvey, popularly called Goldie, is dead.

News of the death of the sensational artiste, who was a housemate at the Big Brother Africa in 2012, broke on Thursday night, throwing the Nigerian entertainment world and the larger public into mourning.

Although details of the cause of the reported death were sketchy as at press time, reports indicated that she died on Thursday night at Reddington Hospital, in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The PUNCH called the Reddington Hospital last night but a voice at the Front Desk of the hospital last night said, “Sorry, I can’t confirm that now because our information unit has closed for the day.”

It was learnt that Goldie died in the presence of a Lagos-based entertainer, Denrele Edun, who was in the hospital with her.

When our correspondent tried to reach Edun, his phone was switched off.

But when a call was also put through to another artiste, Essence, she confirmed the incident, even as she wept profusely.

Essence is on the same Kenny Music label that produced Goldie’s works.

Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey was born in the early 1980s to very educated and successful parents.

The first of four kids, Goldie attended the Green Springs Montessori Primary School and St. John’s College, Palm Groove, in Lagos.

Her music career remotely kicked off at the University of Sunderland where she was admitted to study Business Management.
Goldie was signed on to Kennis Music in 2010.

A few months later, she released her acclaimed debut titled, ‘Gold’.
Her hit songs include ‘You Know It’, ‘Jawo Jawo’ and DTMB (Don’t Touch My Body).

Goldie has so far received a total of 10 awards, including Exquisite Lady of the year, Best Female Artiste award and City People Best Female Artiste of the year.

She has also been inducted as a Federal Celebrity Special Marshal, alongside other notable Nigerian Celebrities. The Law Students Society of the Obafemi Awolowo University recently issued her an Award for Musical Excellence under the category of Best Female Artiste of the Year. She has also been conferred a United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace by the Federal Government.

Goldie became the final celebrity to exit the BBA7 star game house in 2012 as the 3rd runner up.

A statement was posted on the 26-year-old star's official website on Wednesday saying: 'Live Nation Global Touring has confirmed that the remainder of the Lady Gaga Born This Way Ball performances have been cancelled.

'After additional tests this morning to review the severity of the issue, it has been determined that Lady Gaga has a labral tear of the right hip. She will need surgery to repair the problem, followed by strict down time to recover.

Schoolgirl, 14, sent messages to her family on Facebook begging for help as she was raped by stranger in woods...

Guilty: Heroin addict David Edgerton, 22, was found guilty of the abduction and rape of a 14-year-old girl as well as a number of other offences
Guilty: Heroin addict David Edgerton, 22, was found guilty of the abduction and rape of a 14-year-old girl...

Hello Friends!

A schoolgirl sent messages to her family via Facebook pleading for help while she was being raped in woods near her home.
The 14-year-old used her mobile phone to write ‘help’ and ‘raping me’ on her sister’s profile page on the site, a court was told.

But although the messages alerted her mother and sister, who eventually discovered her collapsed by the roadside, they were too late to stop her ordeal.
Yesterday a judge criticised the police and Crown Prosecution Service after it emerged they had missed three chances to catch her attacker, David Edgerton, 22, in the months leading up to the rape.

Judge Merfyn Hughes QC said the girl may have been spared had they apprehended or prosecuted Edgerton, of Connah’s Quay, north Wales, for an earlier rape, an attempted rape and an attack on a girl of ten. Mold Crown Court was told that Edgerton, a heroin addict, was prowling Leeswood, north Wales, looking for his next victim on the afternoon of August 22 last year.

He approached a 13-year-old girl sitting by a community centre and asked her for directions to a pub. She refused to accompany him and he left when a male friend of the girl’s arrived to meet her.

But less than two hours later Edgerton saw the 14-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, at a chip shop and asked her to show him where the pub was.
John Philpotts, prosecuting, told the court: ‘As they walked in the village he held her tightly, grabbed her hair and threatened her not to raise the alarm.

‘He dragged her into Blast Woods where she was raped.

‘Despite her ordeal, she was able to send messages which said “help” and “raping me” from her mobile phone on to the Facebook site of her sister. She got messages to her family to try to explain where she was.’

By this time, the girl’s mother and sister were looking for her because she had not come home. She later told police she could hear them calling her while she was being attacked.
Eventually she escaped and was found by her mother in a terrible state, Mr Philpotts added.

The court was told that in June 2009 Edgerton tried to rape a 20-year-old school friend after breaking into her home.

In December 2011, he attacked a girl of ten but was stopped when a member of the public intervened.

Then, in August last year, less than a fortnight before he raped the 14-year-old, he raped a woman who invited him to her flat.

Edgerton denied one count of rape, one attempted rape and attempted abduction but was convicted after a three-day trial.

He admitted assault with intent to commit a sex offence and the abduction and rape of the 14-year-old.

Judge Hughes told Edgerton: ‘You must realise that the sentence you will receive will be a very long one.’

Kim Kardashian's lawyer claims Kris Humphries is holding her 'hostage' over divorce in newly filed documents...

Fighting back: Kim Kardashian's lawyer has filed a 217-page document claiming estranged husband Kris Humphries is holding the star 'hostage' over divorce proceedings
Fighting back: Kim Kardashian's lawyer has filed a 217-page document claiming estranged husband Kris Humphries is holding the star 'hostage' over divorce proceedings...

Hello Friends!

Kim Kardashian’s hotshot divorce lawyer is claiming she is being held ‘hostage’ by estranged husband Kris Humphries.

The NBA star has claimed he is not ready to go to trial due to ‘uncooperative third parties’.

And Laura Wasser has filed a 217 response on behalf of Kardashian, claiming that Humphries’ side has not presented any evidence that they have been met with any opposition.

Kardashian is desperate to get her divorce finalized before the birth of her first child with Kanye West, due in early July.
In court documents filed on February 8, Wasser states that Humphries ‘cannot continue to hold the Court and [Kardashian] hostage through his own lack of diligence in preparing his case for trial’.
Wasser states that Kardashian is ready to be deposed as early as possible, but Humphries is claiming he wants to be present and that due to his busy schedule, this can’t happen until May at the earliest.

The reality star’s attorney goes on to say that Humphries needs to ‘put up or shut up’, according to the documents obtained by E! News.
Last month, Kardashian filed a motion to speed up proceedings and get an early trial date, or for the case to be bifurcated so that she can be legally single in time for her baby’s birth.

In the most recent filing, Wasser states that Humphries’ camp asked for copies of all of the raw reality footage of the former couple, to which producers of Kardashian’s shows filed an immediate objection.

Humphries apparently did not file a motion compelling the producers to turn over footage, which Wasser states is not their problem.

According to Wasser, Bunim-Murray Productions, which helms the star’s various shows, has not held up things in any way.

Wasser states that Humphries ‘complains that he was portrayed badly in the television shows he appeared on and is now trying to use this divorce action to establish this by “exposing” reality television.’

She adds: ‘This is a misuse of the judicial process; and one for which my client should not have to bear the costs.’

On Friday a hearing will take place at 8.30am determining the next course of action for the former couple. Kardashian filed for divorce from Humphries in October 2011 after just 72 days of marriage.

My fiance poured hot stew on me – Woman....

Mary Sunday before and after the incident

Hello Friends!

A 27-year-old woman, Mary Sunday, has been in the hospital bed at Igbobi Orthopaedic Hospital seven months after she was allegedly attacked by her fiancé, Corporal Isaac Gbanwuan, with a pot of boiling stew and a lighted stove.

It was learnt that Sunday had lost her ears due to the attack.

Before the attack, which took place in August 2012, Sunday, was to report for training at the Police Academy, Kano as a cadet officer.

Still nursing severe burns to her neck, chest and upper arms, Sunday can barely sit or walk straight. She holds her head stiffly and talks with difficulty as she recalled the events that led to her present state to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday.

She said, “I have known Gbanwuan for a while, while I was still a student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, but it wasn’t until our marriage introduction in 2011 that I moved in with him at the Pedro Police Barracks, Lagos.

“On the day I was assaulted, Gbanwuan and I went to see our doctor. We had some health issues. While we were on our way back home, I made a phone call. Immediately we got home, Gbanwuan started querying me. He accused me of keeping lovers and claimed the person I called was my lover.

“I tried to explain to him that it was my sister I called, but Gbanwuam was not listening. He began to beat me,” Sunday said.

Unable to take it any more, Sunday said she ran into the kitchen of a neighbour with Gbanwuan giving pursuit. He allegedly broke into the kitchen where he continued to assault Sunday.
She said, “Then to the horror of those who tried to intervene, Gbanwuan seized his neighbour’s cooking stove on which was a pot of boiling stew, emptying the entire contents on me.

“I don’t know for how long I was unconscious but I was later told that I was in a coma for seven days. I learnt the stove also exploded after Gbanwuan threw it with the boiling soup at me.
“I was first rushed to a private hospital at Bariga before I was eventually transferred to Igbobi hospital.

“I couldn’t tell my family for a while because I could not use my hands; they were sort of stuck to my chest. It was after much treatment, that I was able to use my hands and call my family.”
Sunday’s lawyer, Mr. Moses Kassim, told PUNCH Metro that a petition had already been sent to the Police Provost Office and the Commissioner of Police.

He said, “We have still not received any response from either of them. Gbanwuan is yet to be arrested despite the fact that Sunday’s family reported the case at the Pedro Police Division.

“While Sunday is confined to a hospital bed, Gbanwuan is still at his duty post at the Ebutte Ero division, showing no concern for her condition.”

Copies of the acknowledged petition received by the Provost Office and Commissioner of Police were dated January 17, 2013.
When PUNCH Metro contacted Gbanwaun, he denied causing any harm to his fiancée.

‘Corps members’ call-up now tied to JAMB admission’....

NYSC Director-General, Brig. General Nnamdi Okore-Affia
NYSC Director-General, Brig. General Nnamdi Okore-Affia...

Hello Friends!

The National Youth Service Corps on Wednesday said only eligible graduates, who pass through duly accredited, full-time courses from higher institutions, would be mobilised for participation in the forthcoming 2013 Batch ‘A’ scheme, scheduled for between March 6 and 26.

Already, the NYSC has started collaborating with relevant regulatory organisations of corps producing institutions, such as the National Universities Commission for universities and degree-awarding institutions, and the National Board for Technical Education for monotechnics/polytechnics and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

A statement bythe Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. General Nnamdi Okorie-Affia, in Abuja said any prospective corps member, whose admission status was not known to JAMB, would be deemed to have been improperly admitted.

He said, “Accordingly, the data of all prospective corps members, as submitted for mobilisation by their respective institutions, are subjected to screening for conformity with the requirements of these regulatory/examination bodies.

“In this regard, all prospective corps members whose admissions are not known to JAMB will be deemed to be improperly admitted. The admission status of such students will require the affected CPIs to regularise same with JAMB. Similarly, all CPIs have been advised to abide by the extant admission quota approved by the NUC and NBTE respectively in making submission for mobilisation.

“Any submission in excess of quotas approved will not be accepted. Graduates of courses not duly accredited by these regulatory bodies will not be mobilized for service.”

AFCON fallout: Chelsea drop Moses...

Victor Moses

Hello Friends!

English club Chelsea have dropped their Nigeria international Victor Moses from the squad to face Sparta Prague in their Europa League tie on Thursday. The Nigeria international had been quickly recalled for the trip to the Czech Republic which forced him to travel back to England from South Africa instead of heading to Abuja with his teammates.

But Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has carefully avoided making the same mistake as Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, who played Efe Ambrose against Juventus two days after the Africa Cup of Nations final match against Burkina Faso in South Africa. Ambrose, who only arrived in Glasgow on match day, turned out a huge deficit to Celtic despite his sterling performance for Nigeria in South Africa. Lennon would admit on Wednesday that he took “a gamble” by fielding Ambrose.

Even though Mikel Obi and Moses were initially in the game plan, Chelsea later exempted Mikel but finally left out Moses who only arrived in London on Tuesday for the Wednesday flight to Prague.

Meanwhile, in the United States of America, Nigeria international Bright Dike has successfully undergone surgery on an injured knee while expressing his desire to return to the team soon for the Brazil 2014 qualifying campaign.
